Interesting concept, kind of reminds me of classic Contra back the good old NES days from me youth. Having the option to select from the "new" health feature seems to have a better balance in gameplay than going with the original "one-hit-kill" instead. I might have a go at it myself soon.
Has nothing to do with the original contra- the cutscenes and fmv parts are idiotic and nothing related to Contra series or its characters at all. Should have left them out entirely.

To each his own. I played it and beat it and it’s amazing. Yes graphics could have been better but gameplay is solid with great additions, it’s no ugly game by no means . Story mode is decent and it’s there if you’re into that but I see that as the extra option seeing that Contra didn’t have or need to much of a story so if you don’t want that then Arcade mode is where it’s at. If you are a hardcore Contra fan this is a great reimagining of the first two games. The music in my opinion is good but it that don’t fit ya then you can unlock a retro remix of the older game and it’s great along with what I asked for which was Contra 4 ost. You can even choose the original 8bit ost of the game. Power ups are can be upgraded to level 2 and they have alternate fire modes but you will lose it after using it. You have double jump now as well as a dash. All weapons almost feel balanced and if you’re not into the life bar don’t worry because you have the option to play it old school style with one hit kill. Has challenge mode, you can unlock characters. You can grind for items to buy or unlock through the game. Everything is here for old school fans and new comers alike. Only problem with this game is it doesn’t have online coop. Unfortunately everyone just doesn’t has the same taste so yeah you’re going to get people the trash for their own reasons which they are entitled to there opinion. If anyone is on the fence about the game do more research on the reviews from fans and not base it off one or two people in comment sections or videos. If you loved Contra 1-4 then I truly believe you will love this one
In my opinion, this game could've been much better if they didn't add those fan services. (The game is still good, not saying it's bad). Man, the amount of references from past Contra games may sound cool but they added them in most part of the game and it became tiresome. It just seems like WayForward is just relying on nostalgia to make attract people into playing this and it just feels so lazy. The island where meteor crashed into it, same concept as Contra 1. The Jungle level where the enemy stands on a platform, same concept as Super C The Alien Hive boss fight, same concept as Contra Hard Corps Bike level along with platform that you hang along and of course the cliffhanger ending, same concept as Contra 3. Also, it doesn't help with the fact that few stages went on for way too long. The train level just seems to drag on forever. The voice acting is really bland. All of the characters feels like they're reading off a script with a flat tone. Making the characters to be forgettable We start off pretty promising with the cutscene but then we reached the end where they went with comic style cutscene? It's as if they ran out of budget from the amount of stuff they were planning. If this game flops, i doubt we will get another sequel. On the flipside, the music is pretty good and that's about the good thing. This is still a fun game which i recommend but it could've been much better.
