Hi everyone! Let's paint some Seraphon Skinks for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. These models are from the Spawn of Chotec set, and you can just as easily use this painting guide for all the other Skinks in your army.
Materials:
Grey Primer, White Primer (Ace Hardware)
Rosemary and Co series 99 sable brushes, sizes 2, 1, 0
Vallejo Game Color: Black, White, Toxic Yellow
Citadel Contrast: Aethermatic Blue, Ultramarines Blue, Black Templar, Magos Purple, Dark Angels Green, Magmadroth Flame, Blood Angels Red, Sigvald Burgundy, Karandras Green
Citadel Shade: Tyran Blue, Agrax Earthshade
Citadel Base/Layer: Lothern Blue, Dawnstone, Wild Rider Red, Rhinox Hide, Steel Legion Drab, Retributor Armor, Fenrisian Grey, Balor Brown, Baneblade Brown, Gorthor Brown, Sybarite Green, Stormhost Silver, Fire Dragon Bright, Moot Green, Mournfang Brown,
Basing materials:
Vallejo Earth Texture - Dark Earth
Coarse Gravel
Fine sand
Super Glue
Clump Foliage (Assorted colors from Woodland Scenics)
Static Grass

Congratulations to your content! There are dozens "tutorials" on youtube about painting minis, but you are the first channel I see that actually gives step by step instructions as well as providing the color you used and how they interact with each other. Most creators lose time trying to make clickbait thumbnails and titles but you give some useful information instead. Keep up the great content.

I use to have Lizardmen as a kid in the early 2000s and seeing all your lizardmen painting videos makes me want to pick some of their models up eventually!

Very nice work. I think the biggest bang for buck was the highlight of the feathers, re-establishing rhat feather texture really makes a huge difference overall for a relatively small detail.

@@MattsHobbyHour For sure, it's one of my favourite "hobby hacks" when it comes to army painting, or just any type of time sensitive painting. Going the extra mile on a few key details, feathers on that model being an excellent example, but also faces, power swords, etc makes everything else look "more painted".

I think all my skinks are blue, but you got me thinking that red skinks could also be good proxies for kobolds in D&D. Although with modern scale creep, that's probably more appropriate for the older skink models. I'm always looking for opportunities to use my painted figures in other game systems now days. Hi Matt. Another great video. Could you explain your choice of Dawnstone (instead of the grey primer) as a base for the black parts - is it to change the tone of the highlight? Really interesting info on the reasons to add in the Lothern blue to your Aethermatic blue. 👍🏻

Couple reasons for Dawnstone. Black Templar isn't very saturated, so if you paint it straight over white primer it doesn't look dark enough. The other reason is that most of the areas (claws and ropes) had some of the blue basecoat splashed on them. Contrast paint needs an even undercoat before you paint it. So we either have to paint it white again or use something else, and Dawnstone covers in one coat as opposed to white needing a few coats. Hope this explains things! What do you use for the cork/handle on the temporary base? I've got a few jar stoppers but that handle looks really nice to use.

The corks are from whiskey/bourbon bottles. I like them a lot since they have a wide, flat underside.

Have you ever used panel liner for black lining? If so, what do or don't you like about it?

I haven't used any products specifically labeled "panel liner". What is it, like an oil/enamel paint?

It's an enamel wash with great surface tension and capillary action. It pulls itself along almost the entire recess you want black lined. Tamiya makes some.

@@knobjob2839 cool, I'll have to try it some time! I do oil washes some times. I bet it's nice having something similar that's pre-mixed.
