This is an awesome tehnique for me, I used to draw and paint quite good a long time ago and now going into the hobby, I am lost like a little child, this tutorial is great for someone who is really interested in playing the tabletop game and enjoying the painting part of the hobby without any overpriced gear, airbrushes and whatnot. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for making this tutorial. I've always shyed away from drybrushing for some reason but you really make a good argument for using this technique. I've been having the conquest sprues piling up for months now and any way to get them battle ready faster is a plus in my book

I have to say looking forward to seeing more of these kinda simple contrasty tutorials! Honestly love the work on these quite simple yet effective videos. But yes more Fantasy and AOS gief ( Old High Elves would be interesting as they are very clean on their regular schemes, how could contrast work on them would be interesting watch or Lumineth)!

Would probably do a watered down wash of blue after the blue dry rushing to remove alot of the dust effect of dry rushing (without looking). But awesome job!!!
@samrivers2419
@samrivers2419 3 года назад
If u use a dampening pad for the brush before dry brushing, it also eliminates some of the chalky / dusty effect of dry brushing. Very, very little water... like a single drop worth of dampening to the brush.

Really enjoying your painting tutorials. Loving how the contrast and ‘real’ paint draws it all together. I’ve had a go myself with a couple of models and getting really good results. Would love to see you have a go at a Dark Angel as that Dark Angels Green contrast is tricky to use.

I too would love to see a dark angle tutorial like this one. Great work I have started painting my smurfs using your tutorial. I was having a hell of a time trying to prevent the blotchiness of painting macragge blue contrast over grey seer. But when I primed blue that problem almost totally went away. Thanks for the help

Great vid! I was thinking what would happen if you do the primer, the drybrush and finish with Contrast blue? The contrast would draw it all together whilst still show the highlight I’d imagine?
@tabletopandgaming

Maybe thin it with the medium as a glaze? Tbh the finish is a lot smoother in person, the lights bring it out more.

Can you tell me what paints you used? I'm just starting to get into the hobby again with an Ultramarines army and this is by far the best tutorial I've seen. I am going to swap the Macragge blue out for Night Lords blue, I've noticed on the box art for the latest edition and from some of my earliest memories of the 13th, I remember them being a deeper, almost Royal Blue, which I guess fits with their image as the Warrior Kings of Macragge.

Funny you should ask as I'm just about to start working on that! if you have a look at the Skaven video we did, I believe it was the Evil Sunz Scarlet that we used over the flesh tearers red. You could then use wazdakka red or even the kindleflame dry for an extreme highlight.
