Hey George, really appreciate that, I'm surprised the video didn't get more views too! lol oh well, maybe one day!? Thanks for watching and good luck with your smart home automation.
@@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE if not today time is of the essence, you’re persistent and very talented with your videos, going to be binge watching all of them
I saw you doing this with the lights on one video and had to search if you had another one on that specifically. Great channel, keep at it your content is amazing!
I’ve been on RU-vid since I was a child also I haven’t had a phone lol but yea watched some real famous RU-vidrs with amazing content and quality but this is yet my number 1 fav dude on RU-vid love his videos the qualities are absolutely stunning. Rode2 100K together guys 💯
Have you ever looked into using Home Assistant in tandem with the Alexa system? I just got into it and its pretty life changing if you're in to home automation. I bet you could have A LOT of fun with it! If you're creative it can really up the "smartness" of a smart home and really make you feel like you're living in the future
Just an example of the sort of fun little things you can do with it: when my GPS location changes to "home" AND I trigger the front door contact sensor within the next 2 minutes, Alexa welcomes me home out loud, turns on the TV and loads up a fireplace video, and asks if I'd like her to start a pot of coffee 😆
Amazing video! Can the wake up word on Google home be changed as well, like you did with Alexa? Also, tell us more about your computer chair, it looks so cool!
I don't believe the google wakeup word can be changed, just alexa, The computer chair is from way fair I don't remember the name but it's by Orren Ellis!
Great video J. Although I already knew/had all this technology I'm still asking; I have the harmony hub, is that basically the same as the ir remote you used for the moon lamp? Cheers and all the best. Still can't believe this sub count 🤣
Thanks for watching! Definitely the basics here, the harmony hub looks to be a much more expensive (and likely high functioning) version of the Smart IR hub. The one in the video is the Broad link one. How's your experience been with the harmony hub?
@@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE My experience is good. The UI could be better but it's Logitech so it isn't a bad product what so ever. I do defo recommend it, even though the price is slightly steep but I saved specifically for it. Cheers for replying anyhow
The coffee maker I used in this video has a hard on switch. Meaning you can leave it in the on position making it compatible with the smart plug I used. However, I can imagine there would be coffee machines that still required physical button presses! If you're really in the market for a smart coffee machine they do make dedicated ones that would be catered to the task!
Can you voice control things that have a seperate power button and no remote? Eg: a pc, a lamp with a switch, etc? Because those would just allow power, but not actually turn on without clicking the physical power button, correct?
Technically it's possible yes by using these things here: www.switch-bot.com/products/switchbot-bot - I don't own any so I didn't include this in the video but wish I did to test!
The smart hub is handy device to have I need to check this out. Watching your previous videos where you say "computer lights off/on" I just imagined it was another dude switching off multiple lights lol.
@@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE when you ask Alexa to turn on your desk, I was wondering how I could make it work with my Mac, to make the screen turn on like yours did 😵💫
@@katsayshii The screens are actually not controlled or automated, they simply came on because I moved the mouse. HOWEVER, you totally could control your screens as well with the smart switches. Set your computer to "always on" or to never shut off the displays, and you can use the smart switches to power on or off the monitors, voila.
@@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE oh gotcha! Thanks a lot 🤸🏻♀️! You’ve got the most awesome space I ever saw my entire life by the way! You turn futuristic movies/series (like “Altered Carbon” atmosphere on Netflix) we’ve always enjoyed watching into reality. This literally is vision coming true! 🙌🏼 Hands down to FUTURESPACE COLLECTIVE channel!
What if it doesnt have a remote and it doesn’t turn on as soon as you plug it in though? Like the “game over light” or the “PlayStation icons light”, when you plug them you need to manually press the button to turn them on and they dont have a remote
So if you run into a gadget like that it's pretty hard to automate. If you hold down the button while plugging it in, does that turn it on? If so, you could find a way to keep the button permanently pressed down and then you've solved the issue.
Look into switchbot! They're basically little button pressing robots that you can control with Alexa/Google assistant etc. Maybe something like that would help?
I'm curious how you automate your PC turning on. That's one thing I haven't thought of a good way to do. Mine just has one button that toggles the power so even if i had it plugged into a smart switch, it would still need the button to be physically pressed. I thought about trying a switchbot but have yet to order one and they're not cheap so if there's a better way I'd love to know Any suggestions?
@@IcekissGaming I suppose that's a better approach than nothing. I just try not to leave my PC running over night so my monitor is rarely off while the computer itself is on. And switchbot might be an easy approach but I also worry about hard restarting it by accident and damaging my HD over time. I feel like I heard Paul Hibbert a long time ago, mention some program he used to send wake up commands to his PC but I can't remember what video it was in 😔 and I don't know if that works for true "power on" commands since you'd need it to have some amount of power already for the terminal to work.
Hey guys, So to answer the question - My pc is already on, and is typically running 24/7, so I don't automate that, I'm sure there's a way to do it if you really wanted too, but it's somewhat redundant imo, if your going to use your PC chances are your clicking buttons and such anyhow! One thing I am going to do though is add smart plugs to the monitors for when I want them to shut off immediately instead of waiting for the computer to idle for a bit and shut them down for power saving mode.
You need to somehow keep the power button always pushed and then connect it to the smart outlet. You can use an elastic band with a bottle cap or something of that nature, or a clamp. Get creative with it.
I use Alexa a few months now and its pretty amazing. But how on earth do i actualy use synchronized sounds when you start your light? Thats edited, isnt it?
You make a great point! I was looking for something like that the other day to try and close the gap! I've never tried one myself but maybe I can make an updated video with these one day!
i did this with google home its amazing to say "hey google play video" and google turns on my tv opens youtube and starts playing my recommended videos
