To be fair, we have mastered the art of taking millions or even billions of transistors in complex patterns running electricity through them to crate an invisible network that spans the entire world, and we can’t make tape that properly sticks to glass either.
0:26 Juno's mom was an old friend of Mei as fellow scientists and Juno is gonna be surprised to see Mei look the same due to the latter under cryogenic stasis.
@@niklasmirrazeghi3560 she is just a family friend. Yes Juno calls her auntie, but in asian culture is very common to call someone auntie even if they aren't
most of the original devs and artists left, so they tried hiring new people to try and recreate the old animation, failed, and now they have this new animation style which has less effort put into it.
@@DolanAndGoobyFTW "less effort" ??????????????????? You would be surprised how harder it is to make a cel shaded 3D animation than a photorealistic PBR render
**Kicks rocks* Dislocates some part of the rocket shoe Stupidly shoots at rock instead of fixing the shoe and gets bounced into space for some reason Hyperventilates and doesnt know what to do Says i can do this and does whatever Finally fixes the shoe by literally just flipping the thing back Cue to victorious music like she did nothing less than pure genius. Yeah the writing quality has fallen a lot...
For someone who has quote "trained for this kind of thing [their] whole life." they sure did forget: - the three laws of motion - the fragility of their equipment - to not let go of their equipment - harnessing a basic tether
I'm pretty sure those boots are reactionless, which would make it the two laws of motion. But a reactionless drive would make space travel super easy. So why would they just leave the colony for dead? And if it's not a reactionless drive, why doesn't the ship have gigantic boosters full of fuel?
and you seem to forget much more important things: - Training is COMPLETELY different from real experiences. - This is Juno's first time off Mars, AND she's alone. - She's strongly distracted by the thought of having to leave her entire family behind to die, while she travels somewhere she has never been before.
@@Drone2222 don't forget it's a fictional story, and she was literally born on Mars so her breathing/body could have adapted better to these type of environments.
Juno: I have finally made it to Eart- *INSTANTLY GETS SNIPED BY WIDOW, TEABAGGED BY SOMBA, TANK TEAMMATES YELLS “HEALS?????” AND “NO HEALS” IN ALL CAPS*
More importantly imagine getting to earth to save your family and you meet a group of people going "cool you've got a gun, come help us kill five jerks at Disney World they won't let us ride the Diablo Ride."
this just doesn’t feel like a proper overwatch cinematic, like I always felt overwatch took its universe quite seriously, making fantasy science answers to their tech and always delving into the real world complications of having an “overwatch” agency, but this feels like it didn’t even try. It feels so childish, like, it’s space 101 - that you always tether yourself to the ship externally?? I get she’s a nervous wreck and clearly inexperienced but she doesn’t even talk to control or Athena with any sort of “official” sounding language? I’d have thought someone so nervous would be trying to use all of the lingo she’s been training with. It just makes this whole thing so much more unbelievable.
"always delving into the real world complications of having an iverwatch agency" This is verifiably untrue if you pay attention to any of the cinematics. None of this is in the hanzo, bastion ir reinhardt cinematics.
I have no stake in this, I no longer play overwatch, but I'm looking at something like the Mei animation vs this one and it feels like a whole other era.
I think since they're all OW scientists, they already have some sort of connection to Athena anyway. They probably prepped the ship with OW specs so Athena could easily pick it up. That's my guess haha 😅
@@Flameky the thing on the right side of the ship looks like the item Meridia’s Beacon from the game Skyrim. When the item is picked up by the player, an extremely loud dialogue plays saying the message said in the comment. It’s a big meme in the Skyrim community because of how it’s just a complete and total jumpscare
Everyone gets their origin story, or something similar (Venture's Adventures counts I suppose) But Juno is here to be cute, so it's a step up in quality
Even Yu-Gi-Oh knows lore is half their product so they made an animation studio “Konami Animation” to showcase their stories. Tons are in the works right now. Why doesn’t Overwatch do similar?
This is the first (and hopefully only) cinematic that I have not felt moved to. I hope the next one is better... Edit: I didn't realize it was only a hero trailer, not a cinematic until someone pointed it out
@@jpineapple9495could you tell me whats the film was about please, because this just seems pike a situation that was solved by calming down and thinking carefully.
This animation is actually refreshing after not having shorts like this in a while, and the artstyle is a nice new take, hopefully they make more cinematics like this one and mainly being like those of “Dragons”, “Alive”, “Honor and Glory”
It's absolutely hilarious how bad the writing is for this one, they're trying to set her up as a capable, well-trained professional while simultaneously showing her to be anything but.
Let me get this straight. The terraforming project on Mars has created giant dust storms that cover the planet. These storms are so powerful they can lift Martian boulders into the upper atmosphere. And Juno is taking off during one of these storms? Or do the storms just never stop and there wasn’t a better opportunity for launch?
I assume that for many missions for example in real life you need to wait for the launch window/ trajectory and in this case for the cinematic waiting for when the earth and mars are the closest to each other I am not a space wiz I am severely under educated about these things and I probably am wrong but thats my assumption
@@xickyr1611 i don't think she has the tools to remove the rock safely, after all they don't have the enough resources after all, only what they gave her.
Highly trained spacecraft pilot breaks her own equipment, has a panic attack, has her morale revived by the power of fortune cookie wisdom from the most non-professional and non-specific mission control in the universe, fixes her equipment through the power of bullshit, and suddenly remembers her years of training. What a story.
I was worried we wouldn't be getting any more cinematics lol Obviously a different style, but the heart and feel of Overwatch cinematics is apparent! Thank you :)
@@misslaurarh The fact that they only got a short "low budget looking" video when released, and that the literal archaeologist character did not even get a single skin in the ANCIENT EGYPT themed season.
@@misslaurarh Allegedly, yes. I certainly see that, and unfortunately, it probably is the right move from a business standpoint. But I wouldn't consider it a tragedy, just eh, you know? It's not like the story is over also, they'll still have a million chances to put these lesser selling characters front and centre, it can be a slow burn, no problems.
@@StealthHacker. I actually went and watched it. If I knew the characters and played Apex I feel like it would hit harder than this... Still, to me, getting this is better than nothing from the OW team
I liked the old animation style better because it was a similar animation style to the actual game. This one was written kind of weird... she broke her own boot by kicking a rock, shot herself into space by trying to fix her ship with a gun, didn't use a space tether, and fixed her boots randomly by clicking them together. The writers didn't seem to try very hard with this one, she looks incompetent. The low fps animation style similar to the dragon prince is also my least favorite style of animation so that one is definitely subjective, it kind of gives me a headache. Always happy to see the effort though.
Written by AI and animated by interns because of budget cuts. This company is just a shell of its former self after the original artists left after OW2 and then more got fired
Almost every Animation that's not a CGI Short (Most origin stories, and now with OW2 all the Collab trailers as well) is animated by an outside studio. Not by Blizzard. Most studios operate the same way, often even using 2-3-4 different Animation vendors who all Animate in different styles. It's just because Blizz animates their own CGI Shorts that it makes people think they animate all of their promotional material in-house. Recently they've been having a London based Studio called The Line animate stuff for them (Cowboy Bebop, Transformers, Porsche, Venture Hero Trailer, etc) but this one seems to have a different style (3D + 2D) so they might have hired a different studio to make this 👍🏻.
What makes you say that? Juno's mother is supposed to be from China, and well ,Juno is martian. Father unknown. Chinese is not Vietnamese, neither is Thailand but you have Lifeweaver from there.
So glad to see another cinematic! I was almost disappointed with how yesterday's comic reading wasn't an animated short, but I'm glad we're getting something new in the ways of animation.
I can’t believe they didn’t give her some multi tool like a pick axe or smth, based on the amount of stuff in the spawn ships, it’s very much unprepared/ under equipped, even if it’s a simple travel ship
Gosh i loved the art-style! Please do more like this! Ever since the old Warcraft cinematics i've been asking this but this new style is a no-brainer, please do an animated series! Overwatch lore deserves to be expanded.
Out of all the animation styles they have done for their shorts, 2d for Mauga and Doom, 3d for many of them, this one is probably my favorite. It looks like a mix of 3d and 2d and I feel like this animation style fits overwatch perfectly. It’s unique, and it fits with the characters in game portraits. If they ever do make a show, I really hope they animate it in this style of animation.
3:03 she entered the ship and took her helmet off before the airlock could even close... Or was there even an airlock? If you look at the shadows and the angle of the light, it does not look like artificial light, and even if it is, the light source must take the whole interior of the "airlock" area and be very weak. It looked pretty much like sunlight to me. How didn't all the air escape? How didn't the vacuum take hold of everything inside the ship? How didn't she drown? I've so many questions, though it's good to see some animatics again.
i think space airlock door already closed, what we seeing is second interior door closing. I'm more surprised that her boot fixed itself by smacking it, dad did not said he will miss her, and her suit can only hold 1 min of air???
@@stan110..no. Aunt means close female friend of family in some cultures besides a actual aunt. Same with uncle for males. You can find it in Polish culture too. Brigitte Lindholm in Polish dubbing calls Mercy and Tracer her aunties.
Why are we even doing these anymore when the story is scrapped? Juno will never save her people. Rammatra will never achieve his justice. Venture will never get a skin.
Oh look a rock is stuck. I’m sure she’ll just lift it up and out of the way. *kicks the rock* *damages everything*. Are you serious? *Shoots it* “incredible job Juno!” THIS IS STUPID.
This is so, so, SO much weaker than Overwatch character trailers used to be.. There's no cinematography, no sense of awe, the story is basic, the graphics are dull... So what did happen in this trailer - a girl tried to solve the basic malfunction the worst way possible panicked, calmed down and used the right tool? There's no suspense, no character growth, there's no character demonstration, there's barely any lore... Even OV2 trailers are but a shadow of what OV trailer used to be. Very symbolic.
It's so good to see more cinematics! It's awesome seeing the anxious and confident sides of Juno. These characters are what make Overwatch special so please keep producing videos that highlight them like this!
Imagine training your whole life and then panic at space for the slightest reason. Whoever wrote the script, needs a real life adventure for better inspiration.
Only one minor gripe. She took her helmet of before the hatch was fully closed and before room pressurization could happen. Unless There is a two stage airlock on that ship that they just conveniently didn't show.
Amazing cinematography, very well told story of overcoming your fears in such a short video, wish I still had fun playing your game because this video made me care for it
@@sandcrakes It does not mean they could not use the Pixar-style 3D animations. Since this sequels the comic they decided to replicate the comic's style.
