Respect for traditional Aikido. Its one of defensive martial arts that I loved most esp. the Grappling technique. ;) Good that you opened issues about Aikido, and enlighten those who doesnt understand Aikido in this modern world. Good job!!

From aikidoka: you are the first one in media who's showing the world the real application of aikido that not every blackbelt aikidoka know about, personally my sensie is not one of them he is teaching us the traditional way, the application way and he uses his experiences of other martial arts in his training. last word thank you

Many, many thanks Lenny. My aikido has improved enormously since I started watching your videos. Your teachings now make up a large part of what I do in the dojo. Your instruction is first class. Thank you once again.

Your instruction is top notch. It has helped me rekindle my enjoyment of Aikido practice again. This is the natural progress of Aikido to learn and practice more intense everyday. After 31 years, I still feel inspired to practice through your teaching. Over the years I have seen everything from the "yoga-Aikido" as you state to the "I am tough Aikido", that is the sad state of the teaching today. None of that to be found in your dojo. Simply, Thank you! With Gassho...

kanjin cederman Thank you for your comment. When do you train at or who do you train with, if I may ask.
@kanjincederman9758

I have found two great teachers to train and study with here in Seattle, first Bernie Lau Sensei, who brought realism to Aikido, in the early days, much like yourself and Bruce Bookman Sensei one of the most proficient Aikido teachers that I have met, who portrays the true spirit of the way. Always a student!

kanjin cederman So do you train at or own a dojo?
@kanjincederman9758
@kanjincederman9758 7 лет назад
Both, actually. I have a dojo at my temple and home because I love to practice Aikido with Lau Sensei and my family. People come there to practice and share information. That is where I truly learn and practice Aikido. As you stated, randori is one of the most important aspects but the least practiced. Tenshin randori is what I believe it was meant to be.

I must say you are by far my favorite as far as instruction goes. I love that you break it down and also the no holds barred,no bullshit ,no sugar coating mentality in the way that you teach. I have learned more from you in the short time I've been watching your videos than I have in my past eight years as a martial artist. I have also used your videos to get my girlfriend more involved in the arts as well because I want her to be capable of protecting herself if I'm not there to do it for her and the way you break it down makes it easy for me to ensure that that becomes a reality. So with that being said,thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I will definitely be signing up for the online classes asap . God bless.

It does my soul good to see someone who wants not only to pay homage to the art but at the same time is not afraid to break away from the mainstream so to speak and improve on weak links. Lenny, thanks for all your videos. I am a life time student of martial arts. Through being bullied the majority of my life and my work with security both armed and unarmed, I have decided to become a "Technician" as a few of my instructors have told me. Though I may not agree with everything you say, I am very grateful for what you do.

Thank you for all your videos.. I've watched almost all of them and some of them many times over. I really like the real world practical application techniques.( favorite is KOTEGAESHI). you are very thorough in your explanation of everything you do. When I was in my teens I studied Tae kwon Do, but I was always fascinated with Aikido. Watching your videos has been enlightening and educational. Just wish I lived closer so I could take your class. Keep up the good work and I wish you great success in all you do....

In 1974 I was taking Kung Fu (Tiger style) in Cocoa, Fl from Jim Wilson brother and trainer to Don "The Dragon" Wilson en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Wilson_(kickboxer). He asked every new student how did they want to train as there are three different ways to train in any martial art. 1) For a competition, you will have a bunch of judges looking at you and hopefully, win a trophy. 2) Competeing in the ring, as Don did, you will have a referee and judges and win on points or better yet by knockout, as Don did many times. 3) For the street! Totally offensive and nasty in nature with the intent to put the other person in the hospital, if they had someone to call rescue for them as you walked away. Jim always said "NEVER TRAIN FOR 1 OR 2 AND EXPECT TO SURVIVE ON THE STREET DURING AN ATTACK! Great information from a talented man. It seems in so many words, Lenny, I hear you saying the same things.

hey Im in the same boat. Hapkido is just how koreans say aikido. just think of it as different branches same tree. in the 70s and 80s many tkd masters practices hapkido. There is probably some kicking in aikido too.. thee guys really practice with hageshi, honest and thorough intent. most hapkido didnt, but thats true of aikido too. I did seidokan for a few months a long time ago. but im fascinated by this stuff. I hope someday they can put out some instructional videos.

Leny, I have learned a lot from your videos, I keep going back to all of them and watching them over and over again. Especially your stuff on hand deflections. To me, that and atemi are the bridge connecting Aikido as it is practiced in the dojo and Aikido as it is would need to be applied on the street. The sad part is that is an element that is rarely practiced or not at all in most dojos; especially Aikikai dojos.

To me the most important problem I'd face in confrontation with an opponent (one or many, it doesn't matter, since they all represent a destructive force in general ) is how to maintain the coolness of the mind in order to keep basic emotions under control. There's nothing worse in a fight, i believe, than having your knees shake and go weak because of huge amount of adrenaline... Is there a specific calming technique that helps with natural fear response?

RRFM (Rooted Rapid Foot Work) & RAM all brought together by the core. The gift/essences/thread given to us by Aikido/Tai Chi. It doesn't matter what art one studies their movement, sensitivity, technique, power generation will be profoundly improved by working w/ Aikido/Tai Chi. Nothing in this world or life is linear. Everything cyclic. The circular soft internal arts give us the bedrock foundation to deliver the linear hard external arts techniques.

I've never done Tenshin aikido. . But in tomiki we call it ninindori or sanindori 2 on to 1 or 3 onto 1 . In our school we used to do it with full resistance. .and counters. So I do respect you but it's wrong to say aikido people do not do this type of randori. . Some of us have done many times.

This is ballerina crap. A real man comes after you with a fist, not with a flat hand. I don't care if I get shoved either. That depends on intention and circumstances. If a woman was attacking me, I can take care of that easily. Uke attacking you with fists is a red flag, but he is not teaching us how to _block_ the fist blows, let alone kick blows. Unless he already showed us how in a different video.
