Larry Reynosa Shihan, Chief Instructor at the Makoto Dojo in Ventura CA, leading the advanced Aikido class. Gerrit Green is seen taking most of the ukemi thought the class.

Can anyone explain why Reynosa sensei is applying mae geri during ryo kata kokyi dosa? Is that kick same as atemi to stop the aggressiveness of attacker? Then we can throw using kokyu nage / dosa,,,, care to share your opinion,,, Arigato all

Hi Ari Turbo, He mentions the purpose of the mae giri at 7:20 in the video. I believe It functions as atemi to stop/interrupt the attacker’s forward momentum/intension.
