Now that you know the difference between CV and MIDI and when to use them, how would you apply them in your music making? Let us know in the comments, and check out Daniel Fisher’s FREE online synth course, Synth Clips, here 👉 ru-vid.com/group/PLlczpwSXEOybYYaBCTcjxxKz1QmxytbIf

Great video 👍. It's so cool that CV came back. I've been building a hybrid "sound engine" for my Roland AE-30 wind synth. I send the breath as aftertouch and the motion as MIDI CCs. The core is my Behringer Neutron which converts pitch and aftertouch from MIDI to CV and I have a MidiVolts Desktop (by Space Brain Circuits) to convert the motion and thumbpad CCs to CV. The Neutron is supplemented by Eurorack modules. Great fun!

Most opposite of your comment below "Daniel thank you, but I’ll stick with just MIDI. Seeing that spaghetti of colors kind of confused me Lol"

Good job on your preliminary "shutting down" of the nerd/experts, and prefacing that your video is for those that are not as engaged. You did not belabor the point, but you got the point out there....and also a pretty good job of describing the differences.

My take away: if you want aggregate (meaning that one or more modulator(s) that can effect a downstream modulator) type device , multifunction, hybrid control (over a single voice or parameter)....go with Control Voltage. If you have a down signal device that handles multi-timbrality or multi-tone sound gen AND has slots for MIDI control....use MIDI. CV is generally not polyphonic (exceptions to every rule) , but far more expressive. MIDI can play back more notes/devices. In that....lies the hierarchy. "playing my multi-tamberal Roland PCM-based synth? Use MIDI. "Playing my quirky half modular?"...welll some MIDI for the notes and some CV for the expression.

I would love to be able to use CV/gate control of analog oscillators, polyphonically. I'm pleased with the CV/Gate output on my Arturia Keystep 37, but it would be wonderful to have more than a mono output and be obliged to rely on MIDI for anything polyphonic. Is there anything out there that does this? Even 3 or 4 individual CV/Gate outputs would be a godsend.

Hi Mark, the Arturia KeyStep PRO controller I used in this video can do 4-note CV/Gate polyphony by putting all four CV/Gates on the same Track. -_Daniel_

Hey Daniel I watch a lot of your videos and I'm trying hook my theremin eatherwave up to my moog grand mother, I've tried going from pitch out on the theremin to the filter cut-off in on the grandmother but it's not doing what your theremin does, can you give me some tips please as to what I should be doing, ? Thanks in advance 😁
