I have a Alexa and I got a bulbrite solana light. It didn't come with a hub and it says nothing about needing a hub. Do I need a hub in order to control the light with Alexa?

If you came here, like I did, because you grabbed an echo dot 3rd generation and saw that you could use these bulbs without a bridge - you can - but not by using the Hue skill. You can add the bulb(s) by using the "bluetooth method" rather than the skill (which requires a bridge as of 7/25/2019) - so you can simply put in the bulb, make sure the light is on - then ask Alexa to "discover devices" and after a minute or two it should report finding a light (e.g. "light 1" or "light 2") - you can then open the alexa app, go to 'devices' and manage the light there (for example - change its name to something useful.) You can set the color, turn it off/on, all via voice or the alexa app at this point. I bought the newest Echo Plus last week. Do I need the “Hue Bridge” in order to use other services, such as Wyze Sensors and IFTTT, with my Echo Plus to control lights, etc? I keep trying to setup and connect the Hue Skill to my Echo Plus, but Hue just says it can’t find the “Hue Bridge,” and will not let me go any farther. Within the Hue website, I tried to Discover Amazon Alexa devices-but nothing happened. I was told by the salesman that with the Echo Plus I didn’t need the “Hue Bridge” because the “Hub” is built into the Echo Plus. This begs the question: Is the “Hub” inside the Echo Plus the same as the external “Hue Bridge”? So confusing! Thanks for any help!!

If I figured this out correctly, this is what I learned. The “hub” that is built into the Echo Plus is not the same as the “Hue Bridge.” The hub allows me to carry out commands “locally,” like, from inside my house while I’m either in earshot of the Echo Plus or executing commands from within the Alexa app while on the same WiFi network. However, if I want to control the Hue bulbs, for example, from Red Lobster, then I need to incorporate the “Hue Bridge” into the mix. I now have the Hue Bridge, and the Philips Hue App, and all works just fine. However, after setting up the Hue Bridge and discovering Hue devices with the Philips Hue App, I ended up with a few duplicate devices being referenced within the Alexa App. Then the process of deleting the extras...always something, it seems! Really, I can do everything from within the Alexa App, or by voice, so I don’t even go into the Philips Hue App.

I had my hue bridge set up with out of home control and was working great. The Hue skill was added to my other smart home platforms and everything was working well together. That is until the Meethue API decided to lose connection to my bridge. For some reason now when I attempt to connect the out of home control portion of the hue app to my hue bridge it says that it can’t find a hue bridge and to make sure the bridge and the device I’m on are on the same network, which they absolutely are. I even tried a different bridge but same thing. I tried another device and same thing. I’ve looked into the issue and did many suggestions stated online including enabling upnp on router. I even found a link you can click on to make sure the bridge can communicate with the outside internet and the test came back negative. Not sure what to do but I would really like my out of home control back.

like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ru-vid.comUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

Ashame alot of people dont have a clue how to make their livingroom beatifull with lightning. To adjust the way light bounces of the walls and how you can create nice paterns of shades. You need to adjust light at different percentages and concentrate on specific objects to make it romantic, to give it a theme. No offence, this livingroom looks like a circus tent, check the philips website how its realy done.

Hi there! First of all. I got Alexa (3nd generation) according the shipment, but when I did the set up, I´ve got 2nd generations instaled on my phone. I did this twice and alwayes the same issue. It is this normal? After that I´m strugling to put Alexa working with the bulbs. I buyed 2x single philips bulb E27, but when I click in "enable to use" there is a message saying that I have no brigde. Do I need a brigde to control the lamps? Thank you for your help in advance.

i have the phillips hue white and color ambiance and it is set up with the hub and alexa but when i tell alexa to change the color she says it doesn’t support that. is anyone else having this issue? the lightbulb clearly says it is color changing and the default name of it in alexa app is “hue color candle” so why will it not change color..?

@@themotor53 You can buy google nest mini. If you install the lamps via your smartphone, and you have home installed and add the lamps, you can controll them with the assistant. There is only one downside tonthis and where the bridge becomes handy, thats the bluetooth signal. You need your phone set on bluetooth and wifi in order to make it work with google nest mini, and use alot of battery power.

@all things tech I have 3 echo dots. One each in separate rooms. Can I not just use these dots to control the lights in the particular they are in.? For example 2 lights in the master 1 in the spare and one in the living room. I assume you need the bridge to control all the lights from one echo location. You need the hub to communicate to multiple lights at once and to make light groups. I think Alexa can talk to one bulb but if you have more you need a hub. I think it's like a LAN type thing? I'm not sure because mine haven't arrived yet, I got the Starter kit that comes with 2 lights and a hub
