Controlling Soil Erosion and Cleaning up The Water because #FarmersCare Laying pipe! We are having 4 control basins built to help control the flow of water through these fields and prevent soil erosion. This is a "cost-share" job, meaning there are government dollars involved to help with the project, as it's extremely beneficial to the environment. We worked with the local SWCD/NRCS offices to design and plan the project correctly. Projects like this are a win for everyone. Onyx also learned how to change the oil in the 1975 Scottsdale C20. Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

A quick tip to avoid making a mess of your floor and sweatshirt. These older trucks with the oil filter mounted nice and vertical, you can take a center punch or old crusty Phillips screwdriver and punch it through the bottom and let it drain out prior to loosening it. Saves on floor dry and sweatshirts.🙂 An old timer showed me a long time ago and figured I'd pass it along if you didn't already know. Hope to see you back on your feet as well.👍

Love the smile when you snort those glass packs. Brings back the good ol days . I had a 1987 Scottsdale with the the 4 speed with granny low. Bought it from a body shop guy who completely went they it outside and inside for his son but his spoilt boy wanted something newer. Had 33” tires. Loved that truck. A family member of mine totaled it dew to being a drunk fool. Took me awhile to get over that after working summers theu high school to pay for it. Got a lot of dates in that truck!!! Lol

Really enjoy your videos. I, like a lot of guys, am super interested in tractors and farm equipment and enjoy working outside. Growing up I always enjoyed visiting family out in the mid-west on their farmland. Now, working in an office environment, I am limited to the once a week mowing and occasional maintenance of my couple of acres. This channel is a good getaway when the office job gets too mundane, just turn on the TV in the office and I feel almost like I am right there on the farm. Keep it up!

Make sure to keep the hinges on the hood lubed up because if they get stiff, you will easily bend the hood. Also when shutting it, slowly push down and do the side to side shimmy putting it down to avoid the possibility of it binding and bending.

Wondered about the wisdom of 5w30 in a 70's engine, I'd have thought more 20w50 semi-synth. I presume that was Mystik's recommendation though. Get well soon Zach from sunny Scotland.
@mikeclarke3005
@mikeclarke3005 2 года назад
the 5W (Winter viscosity) much better for that location, and is not how thick an oil is is necessarily better even older engines if not wore out and since rated as a 30 is fine for that one, just depends on engine if worn, leaking etc otherwise good. I prefer not to run synthetic on original older engine seals but see many have no issues, again depends.

I know through the 1980’s and new GM didn’t recommend anything heavier than a 30 weight (5w-30 or 10w-30) due to not getting enough lubrication to the camshaft with say 10w-40.

Ah the days... Our daughter, who earned her Master's in Public Health, Epidemiology at the University of Minnesota, at Minneapolis, lived in an apartment just across the Mississippi River from US Bank Stadium. All she had to do was to walk across the Old Stone Arch Bridge, which was about a quarter mile from her apartment, to the city center then on the to the stadium. We picked her up in late May 2020. Very tense time in the city but we did ok. (Interestingly enough, she earned that Master's Degree at the ripe old age of 22 years old.) While there in MN we went up to Duluth, and also toured the city, during the day, of course. Minneapolis is a very beautiful city. To a parent picking up a 22 year old daughter, during times of turmoil, those can be some very nerve wracking moments. To our daughter they were just events of her education. The University of Minnesota, Minneapolis Campus, is incredibly beautiful. Thanks for sharing the agricultural side. Zach, get better!!!!!!

Just a couple of suggestions.. First filling the filter before installation is not a good idea and most OEM’s say not to pre fill filters. Mystic is good oil but I’m not sure it has enough zinc in it to protect the cam and lifters in that old of a engine, so you might consider a zinc supplement
@davedunn2124
@davedunn2124 2 года назад
Good suggestion on zinc supplement, some guys are using rotella because it still has some in it among others. Now for my question. What supporting facts show pre filling a filter does any damage? I'm just curious
@corey6393
@corey6393 2 года назад
@@davedunn2124 I'm curious about that, too. Any time the filter location allows, I have always pre-filled the filter. Hundreds of oil changes over a few decades with zero issues. Any solid lifter engine needs more zinc than most modern oils provide. Rotella and a few others include it, but are a little thick for winter time temps in MN. Might just need that little can of zinc additive.
@jamesdean4272
@jamesdean4272 2 года назад
@@corey6393 when you fill a filter, you are filling the clean side that goes directly into the engine. ANY contaminates that are in that oil do not get filtered but go directly into the engine. Even new oil might contain some type of contamination even if it is just from the molding of the container it is put in.
@davedunn2124
@davedunn2124 2 года назад
@@jamesdean4272 I'll take my chances while not filling you are running the top end with residual oil until it pumps the filter full and gets it going. Which do you suppose is more likely to cause long term damage?
@corey6393
@corey6393 2 года назад
@@jamesdean4272 I'm with Dave Dunn on this one. Whatever impurities are in a fresh, sealed bottle of oil are likely to be much less damaging than running an engine with no lube at all.

Two things: watch your oil pressure with that 5w, that may be a bit thin for that old engine and take out the bearings. A ZDDP additive will make the cam last a lot longer, unless you know that there's a roller cam in it. I fill my oil filter before installing it, I figure the risk from contamination if you're pouring clean oil into a clean filter is lower than the risk of running too long without oil pressure and taking out the bearings..........

My motorcycling buddies and I used to love synthetic oil. You could feel the bikes were just that little bit faster. It's concerning seeing Onyx teasing the dog. Maybe the leaf blower is not a big deal, but if he knows it upsets the dog, why on earth would he do it? It was a different situation with his trying to see how close he could get to the dogs legs on the wobble board thingie, because that could easily have gone wrong and hurt the dog. It looks like he has a cruel streak. Zach was doing the right thing pointing it out to him. I just hope he listens and develops some empathy.

Kids aren't fully formed, and they see the people and animals around them in the same way, even though it might be wrong. With a young lad as bulletproof as him, to see that he was getting close with a play-partner rather than running right into them is still a positive sign. Zach did the right thing to caution him, as that's how we learned at that age too. A good dad goes a long way. A firm guiding hand and another ten years, he'll be just like us, and he'll have the same innate theory-of-mind for others that we have. Kids do dumb stuff. You did dumb stuff, and I did dumb stuff. Hey just and FYI. When changing any filter the best easiest and defenlty the cleanest is to use a center punch and make a hole at the bottom of her filter and let it drain out. You might have to loosen it after you make the hole to help drain. It works amazing I do it on 99% of our farm equipment and trucks. Good luck keep up the good work.
