Controversy surrounds 'Santa Monica is not safe' sign 

They don’t “need to get local officials attention”, they need to stop voting for public officials whose policies caused this.

This sign is “HURTING THE FEELINGS OF PUBLIC OFFICIALS”. Hurting the feelings of public officials, and criminals is against the law in California.

I drive Uber eats in the area and hate going to promenade late night just meth zombies wandering and security guards keeping post.

God bless those citizens for telling the truth, because the politicians don’t

I live in Venice and visit Santa Monice regularly, it's absolutely insane! It's an asylum for sure. So crazy.

No matter what side of the aisle you’re on, you can’t deny the un housed population is really growing and the drug use and subsequent issues can’t be overlooked anymore.

I have always took my kids to Santa Monica and for the last couple of years I have not visited Santa Monica because it’s not safe. It was such a beautiful safe place before. I hope it can come back up so my family can enjoy it again.

It's fixable just bring back mental institutions.

All I got from that is that the businesses are worried about people’s safety, while the city & police are worried about $$$. That’s what’s sad!

Santa Monica has been declining for years. It feels like how it used to be in the 70's I am never in Santa Monica once the sun goes down and won't park in the parking structures because the elevator and stairwells smell.The lowest point was the looting in 2020 and lack of government support for the retail owners.

I remember when Santa Monica was nice. I never would have thought it get this bad.

It's not just Santa Monica, this is a statewide problem in every major CA city. These people need to face the music and just move. The state of California isn't going to start rooting out organized crime with federal help like they should have done over ten years ago. Which you would absolutely need now that tons of police officers have quit, or have been forced to do so.

These street livers are a decay to society.

The same problem’s are in South LA but lets only focus on Santa Monica where it just started.

Only spent 12 minutes in Santamonica. Right at the base of pier while on cell I caught in corner my eye a homeless woman screaming n running at me to attack but I dodged her attempt n went back to Venice where it seemed better

Karen Bass' "plan" is going to move this into neighborhoods. Housing First doesn't work. Caruso had a actual plan to help.

The city is not doing enough. They are allowing these things to happen. I think the people who posted this sign are correct for doing so.

There are similar issues in San Jose where I live. And, of course, San Francisco leads the way with dysfunctional leaders that seemingly care more about protecting violent criminals over protecting productive members of society.

Was beautiful place. Safe, creativity, and diversities. Also pasadena, glendale, burbank and etc… but unfortunately tons of people who create great cultures around los angeles, they already left because they dont see bright future and to protect what they love. And now, its only gonna get worse😢

Well sorry to say this but it is not a small group of people. The city is tired of it and the officers are tired of it. But unfortunately will face consequences if they agree.

l lived in Santa Monica for 19 years and most criminal activity was unreported. Now with people informing others about the criminal activity through IG and other platforms, the city can't hide it anymore.

Weak laws/ sentencing/ punishments, lawyers and defunding crowds have been ruining the once-great country

The cost of living is out of control here in Cali. Purple & red states appear to be on a better track with sensible policies. It’s the truth, I don’t go to Santa Monica it is a microcosm of what is happening to this country….And after driving across this country and back it’s everywhere!!!

I’m tired of it too. I just started a new city job in downtown Los Angeles and I had to pass a bunch of homeless tents on the sidewalk and one of the tents had a giant pile of vomit right by the door to the tent and the vomit was dribbling over the entire 15 foot wide sidewalk all the way to the rain gutter yuck 🤢 I had to dodge the puke and walk all the way to the edge of the curb so I could hop over the stream of vomit. Then they have poop caked on the sidewalks near the rain gutters. All this filth washing into the rain gutters 🤢I have emetaphobia so that’s a horrible way to have to start my morning to work. Most of the homeless don’t even try to properly dispose of their waste some of the homeless are so mentally gone they’ll just sit there and poo and puke all over themselves. One time I saw a homeless man passed out in a huge pile of vomit on the red line train. And don’t get me started on how much the red line train is a giant toilet on wheels rife with crime and grime. The other day on the orange line bus some homeless person got on the bus covered in feces. I CANNOT WAIT TO GET ME A CAR!!!

The city is a sad display of management .. they have the funds to help people but line their own pockets

Why don’t we fix the health care first that way we can cover all these mental health issues/substance abused people on the streets of California. We know who are blocking this idea doctors and insurance companies

And don't forget our LA Mayor. The do nothing, worth NOTHING mayor who even Joe Biden didn't want.

The motel on Lincoln in between Wilshire and Arizona is a den of homeless and drug dealers.

Challenge these CEO and other city officials to spend a whole day or two with lots of filth, homeless, open drug use. The mentally ill needs a place where they can get a safe humane treatment and hospitalization.

It's safe for bums and shoplifters.

When the cops kill a criminal, and the assailant is black, they feel sorry for the criminal and make that criminal a hero, and the cop goes to jail, so why should the cops work for people's safety? Black lives matter anyway. Those people without good judgment and who are merciful to criminals will experience KARMA, which is happening now.

It will be safer if they would allow good people to carry guns legally.

So he puts a sign on his EMPTY store, which is impeding the traffic for OPEN businesses. Also, his store might not have a tenant due to the rising costs of rent. I live in West LA, and have seen soon many businesses that have been here for decades, close die to the rising cost of rent. Yes, homelessness is an issue, crime is an issue, but so is the extreme cost of living. ALSO, this is not just a CA issue. This true in a ton of other major cities.
