Laurie Perez reports from Santa Monica, where video that has recently gone viral shows a store manager, completely fed up with the wave of retail crimes, confronting an alleged shoplifter in April.
@@supportmytroups7You are wrong. Legally in court system yes, she is innocent until proven guilty. But as a reporter, and a civilian. Not judge , as a witness, we ALL SAW WHAT HAPPENED. I CALL HER A THIEF. FACTS. I WOULD SHOW HER FACE TO PROTECT OTHER STORE OWNERS. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INNOCENT AND NOT GUILTY. EDUCATE YOURSELF. She most likely won’t face a judge anyway. Cause she gave back the STOLEN ITEMS.
When your leader is Gavin Newsom, it's NOT a joke. That loser could care less about the people. He's happy being useless, while " appearing" to do things. He wants the cushy job and paycheck. Has no desire to fix anything. Him and Biden are the posterboys of absolutely useless money-grabbing career politicians. Her business will go broke, and he'll give her a useless word salad. The crime is up 500% and it's COMPLETELY Gavins fault
@@kingtrance307 they could have the balls and stand up for what’s right and what is wrong with society so yeah I’ll blame them for their part too because they have their pulpit and fail to use it
But when it’s too violent, people won’t be able to do that kind of confrontation, and that’s the cases with thousands of dollars of valuables got robbed
Local shops in my small town in Northern California post pictures in their stores of shoplifters. This store manager has the thief's picture so she should make posters and post them throughout the shopping district.
@@sbsk2526 ya but I noticed before they don't always keep it secret for minors. There's usually a political motive to tell or not tell someone's identity
Wow!!!! The thief telling her what is legal. Just like the store manager said "the system is broken.' Simply it says the thieves know they can get away with it and that's why this is out of control. 😡
Depends what you define as "mercy". The mother of mercy loves mercy. People pray to her when they regret. Don't deny her. I think the mother of mercy is about life in prison or being humanely sent to God. God will judge. We cannot judge better than God.
Don't be worried for the shoplifter - people like that have to hit bottom before they reform. Coddling and hug-a-thug mentality is what got us to this point.
At the very least, other businesses can be aware of a petty thief in their store and ask her to leave immediately, BEFORE she has a chance to steal them blind!
Running a business in Santa Monica is a bad idea. Somehow, business owners never got the memo after the Santa Monica riots. Santa Monica and California VOTED for all of this and past the tipping point. It will only get worse.
Don't blame her at all. Having a business is extremely hard and then someone thinks it's okay to steal from them. Hope the shoplifter feels embarrassed and remorseful, and more importantly doesn't do it again.
Damn right! It’s a public area! It doesn’t matter if the alleged shoplifter is charged or not. That is not the requirement to be able to report on an alleged crime.
@@sbsk2526 anybody could be a minor. That’s never stopped other stations from reporting. If it turns out she’s a minor, then remove the video. That’s been done before.
I understand the owner of the boutique telling the manager not to confront the thief. Your life is more valuable than anything that was stolen. At the same time somebody has to say something. This is beyond out of control. Decent people have had it with lawlessness. The inmates are running the asylum at this point. The trickle down effect of all this massive retail theft is staggering. Call your insurance company to report it? Guess what insurance companies are starting to deny claims, cancel policies, raising premiums even on folks who've had no claims. This is in insurance across the board. This is not a laughing matter. It feels like the decline of an entire civilization happening right before our eyes.
Yes, a total "cop-out" by the cops (no pun intended). They're too stupid to realize that the insurance deductible is probably higher than the retail cost of those jackets that that thieve'n chick stole, and that underwriters are on a war path right now (California, especially) to non-renew and/or cancel insurance policies due to the increasing rate of reported losses and claims being filed. That was totally irresponsible of the cops to ill-advise the shop-keep to contact their insurance carrier.
"It feels like the decline of an entire civilization happening right before our eyes." That's precisely what it is: the deep state finishing off America from the inside.
Well if you are not a Bible reader then maybe you should be. It speaks of "THE LAST DAYS..... CRITICAL TIMES hard to deal with will be here" is the way it starts out. (2 TIMOTHY 3:1-5)
@@gsuit2815 Har! I am. I was also in the field when Reagan was Pres. Out in the field in my field jacket with my M16A1, waiting to see if we were going to Libya.
So how is it that they will break their backs to get to a Walmart to arrest someone stealing $60 worth of food, but won't left a finger to help with small businesses?!? That's as backwards as ever. How awful small business owners and their employees have to put their literal lives in danger to keep food on the table, so they don't go under.
Not charged? This needs to stop. Get rid of the many government officials who are confused between right and wrong. The Police in this instance on up are not serving the public interest. OUT!
PROPOSED CALIFORNIA LAW CALLS FOR REQUIRED JAIL TIME FOR REPEAT SHOPLIFTERS AB 1772 would require jail time if someone were convicted of a third theft.
I totally understand Amber Jolly. I once chased a guy around the block as he threw my merch out of his pockets. Nearly full circle he stopped and yelled at me "Why are you chasing me?". I banned him from the store. He used to come to the front door asking my cashier "that crazy lady here?" I am a shopper, these people cost me a fortune!!!!Give them long sentences of forced labor!
This is how people get sick, all the stress and injustice. Ridiculous laws that protect criminals like some endangered species we all desperately need in our society
Why should they, u progressives want them out of your damn neighborhood post George Floyd reckoning, your damn courts let these criminals back on the streets with not even a slap on the damn wrist. You voted for this crap. Now u want help??? Cut the BS!!
Nothing "alleged" about that. You go girl! Theft is theft. It's a criminal act. Nobody has a right to steal anyone else's property for ANY reason, not even a candy bar.
soros and gascon would like the clothes returned to the shoplifter immediately without delay. Gleam Davis would like to sue the store for insulting a hardworking shoplifter and let us know about lived experiences
Several months ago I saw a video where a man said, "I am not stealing, I am shoplifting" When told that that was the same thing, he just kept repeating the statement.
Small business owners can only take so much. It's too hard these days the sit back a allow imbeciles just come in at will a take whatever they want with little to no consequences. Even the law abiding citizens are tired of it.
The mall in San Fran is nearly empty of stores 10,000 fast food workers lost their jobs so many people have fled CA that the state lost a seat in the house of rep, Businesses closed right and left McDonalds talking about leaving CA crime out of control. Vote blue for more of the same
first off this is aweful news reporting ur trying to rile up people to heckle the owner for reaction. u should blur the owner and shame the criminals. owner needs to stop having a hopeless attitude. learn more about the law and have the criminals prosecuted and sue the cops if u need to if their negligence is costing u.
The suspect is a female Asian, , black hair , black eyes , 4 feet 11 inches , 89 pounds. 28 years old. . Montana Ave. used to be cool when it was liquor stores and gas stations.
Over 6 weeks and still not charged. Gruesome Newsom’s got to go and all the soft and fluffy DAs with him if you want to pull your state out of the gutter.
Calls police to report a crime, they just tell her to call someone else. The insurance company. When law enforcement refuses to do their job, it's time for us to relieve them of their duties and handle it ourselves.
I think people tried that already and ended up getting charged for a crime. See NY SUBWAY hero getting charged on google. He intervened to stop an aggressive homeless man and they ended up charging him. I think he was ex military. But yeah, let's see how that goes. I remember all of L.A. and california screaming "defund the police" and marching and posting that on their facebook like they are doing something. You elect democrats who have crazy policies that defy logic and now want to blame cops? When do you blame yourself and the politicians you elected? Rich.
Newsom and Karen Bass be like "She has no right to do that! We allow that because we don't want to do anything about it. If you don't like how we run this state, LEAVE!"
Break-ins and theft is now legal in Los Angeles and will not be proscecuted. Thank you Mayor Karen Bass & D.A. George Gascon. You get what you vote for!
It is Just plain stupidity that laws are made that if if is under 1,000 dollars they do not prosecute. People should not be stealing and they should not think that they can just do that and get away with it. I mean someone pays for it. It gets to the place where people just have not conscious as to what they are doing. Years ago you could not just steal and get away with it. You could get at least 5 years in prison for some if caught. I am sure it depends if it was the 1st offense or not. I mean those who go in and smash and grab it is ridiculous and so wrong. yes I can imagine store owners are tired of it. California needs to get their act together. The state is a mess in so many ways. Our world is become a mess in so many ways. The past 2 year or more everything has gone nuts, Prices of items, and theft and crime. Just awful.
You go girl!!! What the heck... when we were kids we were respectful of the law and being arrested for stealing was never going to happen on my mom's watch! Where are the parents of these thieves!!! Our values have gone to hell 😢
@@345mrse in your other comments you seem to enjoy talking about black people speaking in racial terms… yet in this this story you made no mention of the thief’s race and your certainty did not disrespect his heritage and race… why is that?
I went to prison for stealing food tuna sandwich from Walgreens when i was homeless youth trying to survive , so i get upset when i see people get away with stealing stuff they don't need to survive.
@@awaters8784 who said anything about race? people always want to talk about race. Actually now that you point it out I went and rewatched the video. She appears to be Cuban or lebonese exc.. just thought I’d point that out for ya since you’re so concerned about it.
What was the purpose of this news report? [a] Shame the store mgr. by asserting that she over-reacted. (Note the usage of the word 'rage'.) [b] Shame the shoplifter who stole at least two (2) jackets. (She gave back 2, in spite of saying she only took one.) (If the goal was [b], KCAL failed by concealing her identity and their excuse for doing so was lame.) (KCAL could've shown her face and offered a disclaimer, like the 'alleged' shoplifter had not be charged yet, but the reasons for that are for another story.)
*Thank you* to the brave Store Manager for standing up against store looters; she deserves a medal 🏅 🏅 !! *To the Store Owner* : let us know here how you have positively recognized her bravery and standing up to the store’s values! ______
That store owner should be charged with assault. All LA restaurants residents have the right to steal anything they want. Ask their elected DA and the other idiots that decriminalized shoplifting. You’ll see the store owner should be prosecuted.
