i forgot how heart wrenching this cover was. gah! i love the cure, i've been a fan for decades and i've heard some really bad covers of their songs. this is not one of them. they interpreted it in their own way, which i respect. converge is amazing.
Converge is my favorite band, but I started out listening to bands like The Cure, and lemee tell you something. Converge ain't an easy band to get into. But that doesn't make them bad. They're kinetic, and violent, and have truely AMAZING songwriting, musicianship and technical abilities. Jacob Bannon is a huge fan of The Cure.
LetsGetHighOnMorris Yeah, agree with you on Converge being pretty inaccessible but my God are they worth it. One of the greatest bands ever as far as I'm concerned.
There is a band that Jacob Bannon has recently done the album art for called Frail Body. This band screams almost identically to the way Jacob Bannon's vocals are in this song. I just listened to this and it's awesome to see how we get from The Cure to a newer band like Frail Body
converge is one of the most respected bands to come out of the metal/hardcore scene in the last 20 years. I can see how some Cure fans might not dig Converge but do not dismiss them as some generic, flash-in-the-pan. I always thought Converge went way out of their comfort zone on this track and did a very good job.
Oh, I miss the kiss of treachery The shameless kiss of vanity The soft and the black and the velvety Up tight against the side of me And mouth and eyes and heart all bleed And run in thickening streams of greed As bit by bit it starts the need To just let go my party piece I miss the kiss of treachery The aching kiss before I feed The stench of a love for a younger meat And the sound that it makes when it cuts in deep The holding up on bended knees The addiction of duplicities As bit by bit it starts the need To just let go my party piece But I never said I would stay to the end So I leave you with babies and hoping for frequency Screaming like this in the hope of the secrecy Screaming me over and over and over I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery Stains on the carpet and stains on the scenery Songs about happiness murmured in dreams When we both of us knew how the ending would be So it's all come back round to breaking apart again Breaking apart like I'm made up of glass again Making it up behind my back again Holding my breath for the fear of sleep again Holding it up behind my head again Cut in deep to the heart of the bone again Round and round and round and it's coming apart again Over and over and over And now that I know that I'm breaking to pieces I'll pull out my heart and I'll feed it to anyone I'm crying for sympathy, crocodiles cry For the love of the crowd And the three cheers from everyone Dropping through sky Through the glass of the roof Through the roof of your mouth Through the mouth of your eye Through the eye of the needle It's easier for me to get closer to Heaven Than ever feel whole again But I never said I would stay to the end I knew I would leave you and fame isn't everything Screaming like this in the hope of sincerity Screaming it's over and over and over I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery Stains on the carpet and stains on the memory Songs about happiness murmured in dreams When we both of us knew how the end always is How the end always is How the end always is How the end always is How the end always is How the end always is
Said it before and i'll say it again. I'd prefer to hear someone scream with a crackling, rasping, fucked up voice that means it, than a perfectly honed yell that has no weight of truth or emotion behind it. Converge fucking rule.
This specific cover might be one of my favorite songs ever. If my band wrote that song I'd be like "yo Converge, this is your song now" . The original is still awesome though of course.
@Dynamitethedrummer So go listen to The Cure play it... This is a cover by Converge remember... the Hardcore band. If they left it as it was, there'd be no point covering it. Regard music as art, everyone has their own interpretation of it. You know? omfg, haha
This is one of the bands that pioneered that "cliche". I realize that knowing that probably isn't going to alter your opinion of the way it sounds, but I felt compelled to correct you because it bugs me that you've lumped them in a category with their imitators. With that said, you might enjoy the cover they do of "Clean" by Depeche Mode. There's no screaming in that one.
Metalcore is not my thing at all, but this is one hell of a cover. As far as I am concerned covers should provide a different take on the original, a twist, or offer something new totally. I love The Cure but I would sooner take this as a cover version than how dreadful a cover of 'World In My Eyes' by Depeche Mode that The Cure did.
Converge is metalcore in the way that Judas Priest is speed metal. So, the label can apply, but their sound evolved too early in the genre's lifespan for their inclusion to be uncontroversial. They're much closer to proto-metalcore like Rorschach than As I Lay Dying is what I'm saying.
Wrong, it did happen. And it happened years ago. For Converge to cover anything similar to their own style (which is hard to define in the first place) wouldn't be a challenge, or even interesting to say the least. As for your recommendations...a Rollins cover, or "sweedish black metal" [sic] just tells me that you don't know much about Converge.
I loved the instrumentals in this cover. You guys are obvious talented and I can appreciate that. You're vocalist also sounds talented as well, however I had a hard time hearing the dude. Albeit I have been to Afghanistan a few times now, been near a few explosions. So my hearing isn't all that good. Am I the only one here?
I love both bands and i love this cover but sometimes this is too dark for me to listen to. I really only listen to dark music but this is too much sometimes.
Dear Converge. Your band is great. I think if you explored this sound further, now, you could do very interesting things with it. No need for the gratuitous double-kick part these days, of course.
I love Converge and always have. They play the best and most alive shows I've seen. But I must say, When covering a song from The Cure.... The screaming can fuck off.
Remember cure fans; your just a fucking fan and remember converge fans; you are too This is not your art. Stop judging and cover it yourself Me personally i wouldnt want a cover i did to sound like the original, and who said that was the fucking point anyway? Shut yo mouths and navigate away from the page if a converge cover bothers you. Its rare they even cover nuff said Btw i got my nose broken this weekend at a converge show and i couldnt be happier. Great results!
Not knowing anything about converge doesn't bother me at all. It's a shit cover. My friends dragged me to enough of their shows to know I will never listen to them. I hope I never hear another shitty cure cover again.
No. Some parts were okay but if anyone says this is better than the original, you are crazy. I don't doubt that you are good musicians, and it shows, but do not scream, like 'screamo', in a Cure song. Okay.
Holy shit, this sounds like Cats fucking to a bad guitar riff that sounds nothing like the cure. Robert Smith is rolling over in his grave and he's not even dead yet.
The music was good, and though the vocals should have been turned up in the beginning, the song was well done at first. Then came the screaming. I'm sorry, screaming can work well in a song, but it is WAY out of place here. This cover is disappointing.
