Do you actually know what you're supposed to do when you're storing a bow? What about flying with a bow? Is it actually that important to un-tighten the bow when you've finished practicing?
Yes. Absolutely. But there's a wealth more of information in this last episode of Conversations with a Master Bow Maker, so take a watch!

Most especially. Greatful! Will try the orange peel technique very soon. Have been off and on with humidifiers. Some say not necessary to stick worm in sound hole, only cause mold. Others. Say keep violin hydrated at all cost otherwise cracks appear in violin. Very confusing.

I was just debating whether or not to take my expensive bow out west in the dry climate and this video helped make the decision for me!

It's always such a toss up! My rule of thumb is if I don't have to, I don't bring it- I bring a spare. Even today- we were brewing beer in the apartment and the humidity went up to 73%! So I practiced with my spare bow all day, as agonizing as that was, hah!

I live in eastern Washington state and have several wooden instruments, one of which is an expensive ( for me) guitar. I was concerned about the relative dryness of the climate when I moved here, but I am happy to relate that indoor humidity is easy to maintain between 40% and 55% all year round without any special equipment or effort. I would imagine that bows respond well to living in most parts of the West.

I have a dehumidifier in my playing room. My playing room is humidity and temperature controlled. Being middle income and not living in New York city, I chose a high quality carbon fiber bow, and and very nice antique, German violin. This man seems to be a very fine person, and I am sure his bows are of a very fine quality.

I don't think it does too much, honestly- but it does make it smell nice! And it definitely doesn't hurt! :)

ILL BE HAPPY TO HAVE A DECENT SOUNDING violins and avoid cracks and leaving the violin out on a darn chair or bed. Excellant tutorial, thanks for sharing these wise professional tips. Bless you! J
