Introducing the floating wetland...
Usually, natural pools are created by building costly gravel wetlands. Floating wetlands, on the other hand, can be placed inside an existing pool. Aquatic plants then grow on the floating structure purifying the water and removing harmful pathogens. If done right, the floating wetland is an incredibly low-cost but highly effective biofilter allowing you to toss out your harsh chlorine chemicals!

I have 6k gallon or 22k liter pool with jacuzzi. I emptied Our chlorine water to replaster but so much rain has filled it back up, I am starting a journey to convert to natural pond. So glad to find your channel.😊 I am looking for alternatives to using orginal system which would have to run 24 hours and thought the jacuzzi could be a good bog filter and the “wetland”. I already have toads and snakes living it up but the snakes are not poisonous and do not mind them.❤

Would this also work for an above ground pool like an Intex or bestway pool?

I'm worried about snakes in the pool. I've had a few over the years and adding more area for them to hide worries me.

To help prevent snakes from frequenting your garden pond, you can adopt several strategies that make the environment less appealing to them while still enjoying the natural beauty of your pond. Here are some effective methods: 1. Keep the area tidy: Clear away debris, long grass, and piles of rocks or wood around the pond. These can provide shelter for snakes. 2. Manage rodents: Snakes are often drawn to areas where there is easy access to food. By controlling rodent populations, you can make your pond less attractive to snakes seeking a meal. 3. Use snake repellents: There are commercial snake repellents available that can be applied around the perimeter of your pond. These are generally made with strong-smelling substances like cinnamon oil or clove oil that are unpleasant to snakes. 4. Install fencing: A snake-proof fence around your pond can be an effective barrier. The fence should be made of fine mesh, buried several inches into the ground, and angled outward to prevent snakes from climbing over. 5. Limit waterfowl and fish food: Excessive feeding can attract waterfowl, which in turn can attract snakes. Keep feeding to a minimum and clean up any leftover food. 6. Plant lemongrass: Lemongrass is believed to be a natural repellent due to its high citronella content. Planting it around your pond can help deter snakes. 7. Encourage natural predators: Allowing natural snake predators like birds of prey to frequent your garden can naturally keep snake populations in check.
