Thanks for this reminder as I was about to try repairing one of these lights... now it is so obvious I should just do some led refit. Put led ribbons all along my v berth and main cabin, " wall wash" lighting, so I don't know why I didn't think of this solution first.
i did a simular project, i have a 36 Catalina sailboat. i converted my lamps in main cabin and both births to led bulbd, double posts to single.. had to ground to light housing and also remove one of the posts on side of bulb to fit. walmart has led bulbs but must be converted. to me, it was worth the work to save about $200 on about 8 bulbs.
They have them at the stores, they are the ones that have a little test button on the pack, if you have any question, i here to help. it just takes a little problem solving, you can do it. i made mine were i can use same bulbs to replace the lights when they go out. double post to single is not a problem, just gound to housing.
Are those leds current controlled? Normally there would be a resister is series to limit the current, else they will burn up. If there is a current controller in the led assembly, is it a PWM (Pulse Width modulating) controller. If so, you may have RF noise issues
+Alan Stevens Yes they were controlled. Good point to bring up, any LED used should have a voltage control circuit built in as voltages on boat are not very stable. Thansk for watching and the comments
When I did this those were not as available as they are now but yes that would be a good way to go. But then again I have a bad habit of loosing remotes! lol Thanks for the suggestion
