Somebody gave me a 5500 watt generator set that was run without oil and had a broken rod so I decide to separate the generator portion and modify it to be mounted under the hood of my yard car.
I always thought about doing this, and someone actually did it. Kudos. I love the yard van. Getting myself a medium size gen to power heat or ac, a fridge and some electronics for the next inevitavle power outtage.
@@dumdidumdumification oh, it was running, but on the original Volkswagen gasoline engine. From what I understand Thomas Williford from brute force leather has it now.
Seems like quite a bit of work & gas for what 5500 watts. I have a harbor freight 4000 watt generator. When it is running at peak and I need more power I have an old riding mower with a 11.5 HP briggs on it. Hook up a 2000 watt harbor freight inverter to the battery and it runs a fridge, light, fan no problem. I didn't do anything with the gas tank for it so it needs fuel about every hour. FLY NAVY!!!!
Had the car and the generator was free and I have no desire to maintain another small gas engine! It’s mainly for the utility of being able to run tools far from the house.

What’s stopping you from using this generator to power a 3HP DC motor that runs your rear axle. You could disconnect the gas motor from the transmission. This is my goal. Do you think it’s possible before I start this project?
@@JakevonSlattthe more I think about it. You could probably keep the gas motor connected to the transmission. Just put it in neutral before driving the electric motor. Then you could drive your rear wheels with an electric motor and your front motor with the gas motor lmao. Separately of course. Unless you accidentally create the worlds most unique AWD. I’m just struggling with the math required to see how powerful of a generator you would need and at what idle it takes to power it. If this works, it would help aid the inefficiency and flaws of batteries. Oh man this is beyond interesting to me.
so this would be called a series hybrid or a range extender EV. Im seeing companies asking $60k-$100K. however the real benefit from this system would be low cost conversations of older cars. if i were you, i would make a 'YT short' on how you pulled off this car generator. so you'll be the first to show up when people search ''turning gas vehicle into a generator'' a company called fabco power makes generators for car timing belts. yours is more powerful tho.
