Converting a Natural Gas Dryer for Propane 

Thanks for watching and for the suggestion. When I finished the conversion it was about 6 months before I tested it. There were no leaks but I actually found I had broken the igniter when I took off the back cover and it fell down, so after opening the dryer and replacing that it now works fine.

Thanks for your comment, we had been looking for a dryer for our barn we are remodeling and we couldn't find a propane one, but I learned it was possible to convert them. I will be posting another video soon, and in about a month when the remodel of our barn is finished I will post that also. At some point I would like to do a farm tour now because I haven't done any videos that aren't time lapse for a long time. I have been very busy lately but I plan to make the time to post videos more regularly. Thanks for watching them!

That's interesting you mentioned that, back in 2018 I just had less going on in my life and wasn't always in a hurry as much so I hadn't even thought of it. We've always had power tools here on the farm but for some reason I just grabbed a set of wrenches when starting this project, and now that I remember, it was pretty tedious to remove those back bolts (I cut the video a lot). It would have made sense to use power tools for this project, for example at 0:53 I actually broke the igniter when that metal piece dropped because I was using both hands on the tools. These days I use power tools for everything, this summer my project has been rebuilding an ATV and I always grabbed a drill even when putting in a couple screws.

There were 2 bolts behind the rear panel that hold in the gas assembly which were nearly impossible to reach from the front side. For some reason I didn't use a socket set to remove the back panel but it's not very difficult.

If you don't feel comfortable doing the conversion yourself, you can probably hire a local handyman or repair company to do it for you.

I got mine on eBay by searching for the dryers model number, and then propane conversion kit. The specific kit you need depends on what dryer you have but they should be available for most dryers. If your dryer is relatively new, you might be able to find the conversion kit on the manufacturer's website

I think electric dryers are much more common, and an advantage of them is they work anywhere without a complex conversion process like this. For our case, we have propane gas on our farm in the country, and it is much cheaper than electric appliances.
