Converting an old fluorescent light fixture to LED ballast bypass lights. #HandsomeOrHandy how to fix led over to led light blinking home diy Maintenace handy man handsome or handy handyman
One thing I love about this guy is how smart he is with everything he does one way to be good at something it's to never let yourself get in a project that you don't know what you're doing looks like this guy knows about every project
God I've seen 7 videos but no a single one showed how easy it is. You literally just splice all the hots together and then seperately all the neutrals.
If anything like the fluorescent household lamps, the LED's should last several times longer..? They say 50,000hrs-100,000hrs, but with the household LED's (same Diodes, basically) I've gotten maybe 10,000hrs. That's with the lamp keeping the bulb on 24/7. The lamp used was a tabletop, directional/bendable, with the bulb recessed in the head of the light, which keeps the bulb hotter, and will burn out quicker. Worked for over a year straight, which surprised me!
LED's fixtures require a driver, rather than a ballast, and these are usually built in the bulb itself, like with the screw in household LED's. I've talked to a few local store owners, and the T8 sized LED tubes were easily replaced. They just swapped em out, like a normal T8..? And you had to put a warning sticker on the fixture..? Maybe you went for the older, cheaper bulbs that weren't as easy to exchange, like an LED household lamp..? Very strange problem in 2022..?
Also LED tubes that are ballast compatible are not to be used with magnetic ballasts such as those in the video. They should only be used on electronic ballasts. I would skip the LEDs entirely and keep the fluorescents though.
Great but most of the people watching this don't know much about what you're doing and your quick short video was informative enough, stop using terms like hot in neutral and use red wires blue wires white wires etc. etc.
I have 2 Philips led tubes in a store break area and they claim to work on instant start ballast, it worked for me even though it was running of A rapid start ballast.
As a lighting enthusiast, I wouldn’t upgrade to LED if I had a fluorescent light fixture, unless if the ballasts are dead. Fluorescent lights are cool. I miss seeing the preheat action on older preheat fluorescent fixtures. LEDs only marginally better for efficiency because they are only using a few watts less than a 32W T8 fluorescent bulb. LEDs are good if you’re buying a reputable product. Feit Electric is an example of a good product.
Being replaced with LED's that fit those sized fixtures. I've seen many/most that are directly replaceable (I believe most of the LED fixtures have drivers built into them, like the screw in households). This seems to be early LED tech..? I know several businesses that just changed them out, one for one, no problem. All LED's need drivers, as they run on DC, which he must have had to switch out, if taking the old ballasts out..? I'd make sure they're bulbs that can be replaced with their T8's, or T12's even. IDT they make LED's for T5's yet, which were the most efficient Fluorescent tubes..? Possibly, but I haven't seen any advertised, or used anywhere yet..?
@@rs12official No, there still used widely, but T5's are more efficient Fluorescents, yet I don't see them used industrial as much as I expected. T8's, I'm guessing, are the most familiar fixtures. I know some of these T8 LED replacements just didn't cut it, especially when only 6500K° Chips are used. The same cool white/bluish light that was very unflattering, and have had biases ever since (Fluorescents are too Cool! Even the CFL's were Cool White, at first..?). Of course, Warm White bulbs came out in each scenario, but leaving bitter memories from the originals. One great thing about LED's, is their spectrum can be controlled well. I'm pretty sure there's some great LED replacements, lamp for lamp, from what I've heard, yet these many be Top of the line, and not yet worth the price. It should change soon though. LED Bar grow lights, often with 6-8 100W bars, with a 600W Bar light doing better than a 1000W HID! I'm starting to get really interested in these T8 LED replacements. I'll have to look into them! While they're are some T12's still being used, the predominant setup used for many years, has definitely been the T8's! It's not even efficiency vs The T5's, IMO, I just believe the T8 size is perfect. Eventually, if not already, there should be a really great LED replacement for the widely used T8's, with great color and less than half the power. Eventually!👍
@@timturk1899 F32T8 tubes are still used everywhere, are very efficient, long lasting, and are bright! LED tubes are dim and don’t last! They are also just as efficient as T8 tubes, just dimmer and fewer watts.
T5's or being phased out. Well, I assume so, lol. Because try going to Home Depot and getting a T5 ballast. I seen them on clearance one day like 6 months ago. I always check now because I'm in that area a lot, almost daily between all the surrounding Home Depot's. Not a single T5 ballast. I'm in the Cleveland area
