Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike clickies, I just prefer linears 😅
Set-up below
Mic: Phone: Poco F4
Board:
➡️8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard (Fami edition)
➡️Top-mount
➡️Aluminium plate
Switches:
➡️Kailh Box White V2 (de-clicked and lubed with Krytox 205g0)
Keycaps:
➡️PBT Dye-Sub (MDA-like profile)
Stabilizers:
➡️Stock Plate-mounted Stabilizers (lubed with Krytox 205g0 and Dielectric grease)
Mods:
➡️Tape mod (cause why not)
➡️Added shelf liners to remove hollowness (board is VERY hollow)

As soon as I got mine, I swapped in some linears,. After a few days, it didn't feel right so I swapped in some tactile switches.... and after a week of those, it still didn't feel right, so I swapped back in the original box whites. Now it feels perfect.

Hey! Just wanted to drop by and thank you again. I've successfully de-clicked all of the switches on my 8BitDo Keyboard and ABSOLUTELY love them now 🥰 I don't think I will need new switches as these are perfect!

Do you think this keyboard could sound thocky or creamy with some switches? I really love the design and I love creamy switches, maybe I could mix it?

Of course! You'll need to open up the board and add PE foam and tape 😅

kind of, they made it hollow plastic to more sound like retro keyboards so if you want to add mass inside it might help for what you want. Not sure where the screws are though

Hi! I'm planning to declick the Kailh Box White V2 switches on my 8BitDo keyboard as well. I hope you don't mind me asking some questions. 1. Does it affect the feel of typing? 2. If I change I mind is it possible to return the springs back in their original place? My tools are on the way but this will be my first time opening switches. So I'd appreciate your help ^_^

No problem at all! 1. If you've been accustomed to the feel of clickies, it might change as that little "feedback" from the click isn't there anymore when bottoming out. Though If you are familiar with linears, you might not even notice it! 2. Certainly! In the same way you removed the click bars, will just be slightly harder putting it back 😅

@@kWyboard Thank you for your response! I'd been using Outemu Browns (linears) for a year on my Logitech Pop. I lubed them (push stem method) and loved their creamy sound profile but not used to the heaviness anymore and prefer the feel of the Kailhs 🥺 But I can't decide if I like the sound of my Kailhs or if I'm just putting up with it til I can decide which switches to buy 😂So I think I'm going to slowly mod my keyboard starting with the switches and will get inspiration from your build.

@@apocalypse_ada everyone starts with trial and error when they are starting so you're on the right track! If you can't decide on the sound and feel, you can try to buy samplers (1pc) of varying kinds of switches!

@@kWyboard That's my next plan haha! 😬 I had a hard time choosing because I had to make sure there were enough sources for the switches before adding their samplers to my cart 😅 (Some types of switches are already hard to find in my country so those, I actively avoided.) I prioritized the tools for de-clicking in my recent purchase and will get the samplers next. Appreciate your help so much!
