I believe the comment was in reference to Darrell Brooks not making a profit, not the judge herself. Often times, criminals would try to sell their stories or grant interviews for pay. Some would even be bold enough to try to write a book.

While there are Son of Sam laws in many states to prevent criminals from profiting off of their crimes; multiple state level supreme courts have struck down the Son of Sam laws in their states as unconstitutional. With regards to Son of Sam laws it's a very delicate balance between freedom of speech and profiting from tragedy.

The thing I liked most about this judge is that she ordered that Darrell have his earnings garnished by 50%. So, unless his mother gives him money - which she might - everytime he goes to the commissary to buy snacks and stuff, he'll have a lot less. He'll look at the person in front of him in the queue and the person behind him, and notice he has a lot less than them. He's going to be uncomfortable for the rest of his life.

And I honestly hope that child support takes the rest. This man somehow has 4 children, all whom he is not supporting financially. I hope they take the rest of the commissary for child support. I’m guessing his mom and possibly female family members, girlfriends or friends might pay on his books. So half goes to his victims, and the other half to his children and he’s left with nothing. Because that’s what he deserves.

Sue Opper is truly the Queen of the Court, she is an incredible prosecutor, I have so much respect for her, she is a legend ❤️🙌🏻🙏🏻❤️ I also have so much respect for Judge Dorow, the restraint she managed to contain during the trial to ensure there was no way Darrell could win an appeal was pure genius, she is a superhero ❤🦸🏻‍♀️❤

Judge Dorow was smart enough to realize Brooks was aiming for a mistrial and was very careful. Then when there was no fear of that she went for the jugular during sentencing. She has the patience of a saint.

@@bratlygirlI once posed that question to my father about how some criminals don't have remorse when I was a child. His answer was that there is something wrong in their brains. It's good we can't understand, because for them, they are incapable of having a conscience. They are sick. He also said that some people are simply born evil. I believe Brooks is one of those people. He has no shred of guilt or compassion for his victims. His eyes are dead. True evil.

it is EXTREMELY GRATIFYING to hear the judge repeat he has a life sentence. It was also extremely SMART of her to know he can make a significant amount of money on any future tv or book deal or even charge for interviews. AND FOR THE RECORD (lol DB joke) his lawyer definitely studied this case closely judging by his presentation and character. HE DEFINITELY wants to be part of the limelight

I'm surprised anyone would represent him after his behaviour in the courtroom. Judge Dorow had enough of him but played it smart so he wouldn't be able to do a mistrial plea. Then threw the book at him during sentencing.

@@werewolf1986 He's a public defender. He doesn't get to choose which cases he takes. They are generally assigned, and he can't refuse it unless there is a conflict of interest or if the defendant makes him withdraw because they want to continue pro se. As for him studying the case, that's his job. He has to give the best and most vigorous defense that he is able to, otherwise he could be reprimanded or disbarred. Even monsters like Brooks are entitled to a vigorous defense/appeal under the constitution.

Wild to see his demeanor now in comparison to that of when he was acting as a pseudo-attorney. It makes me so happy to see him broken down so much and completely lacking confidence because he actually has to face the consequences of being a murderer and injuring so many others. Love that he believes he is so subtle yet it is so obvious when he rolls his eyes and shakes his head when the victims are mentioned. Big brain over here.
