I’m honestly thankful he decided to represent himself. It would have been so much more painful for the victims to go through how defense attorneys can twist things. They may been able to get some charges dropped. But Brooks made sure every single charge stuck. And I appreciate that he did that to himself.

Yeah but a lawyer can be more passionate even as a defense. The victims And victims parents were subject to come face-to-face with this monster. Could you imagine this guy taking out your mom or your kid and then you’re subject to being in the same room with this guy and having to respond to his questioning… he’s probably now can argue grounds that he had ineffective counsel and now the victims are gonna have to go through all this over again but at least the victims can be questioned by a trained legal rep.

At the first hearings when he was in front of the court commissioner and came in with a bulletproof vest the woman attorney was consoling him and rubbing his back uggg I wanted to throw up. And it was clear then that he was crying when he heard he could be convicted and spend the rest of his life in prison not because he was hearing about the people he killed, and that a 6th victim a child was also going to be added. The whole trial was as if it were a child representing himself. This judge is a saint. Not only did she not lose her temper over his arguing and interrupting, she also did not laugh at some of the extremely strange things he did and said (such as the box fort incident, which had me in tears), and finally she did not let the erratic behavior distract her from the monstrous crime he committed. Someone give her a raise.

She did handle herself well but that is her job. While it would be difficult to maintain composure in her position, doing so doesn't make her deserving of a raise. Judges already get paid too much. The state I live in district Court judges, appeals court judges and juvenile court judges all make over 200k a year. The governor of my state doesn't even make that much.

@@patriciaoffer9585 I think in the context of the whole trial, considering how much he interrupted/ was rude, the judge and prosecution only slipped a little here and there. This is probably the strongest example where the judge should have acknowledged that Opper's tone was not appropriate. She probably did it on purpose to get a response (sure had her "I need to raise my voice" argument ready to go), and boy did it work. Lawyers lol

People were wondering why the judge was allowing him to misbehave. It was because she knew what he was trying to do, he wanted to get under her skin for her to react so there would be mistrial or at the very least he would delay the case, especially by getting contempt of court. Instead she was a rock and he grew increasingly frustrated when his life long tactics and immature attempts at intimidation and disrespect failed to delay matters as she only ever replied curtly with the minimal responses required under law. He instead only dug himself deeper and once he had done so sufficiently, she stuck him in a box with a mic and camera, muting him during rants. Now he's recieved multiple life sentences.

I am a prison nurse. Many of my inmates show this argumentative behavior. I also have many who also claim that they are sovereign citizens. They believe the laws do not apply to them. They feel they should not be tried or in-prisoned for their crimes. I want to praise this judge for her handling this case. These kind of people are very difficult to deal with. That guy looking over Brooks' right shoulder and not breaking his role as a court bailif deserves recognition, as he certainly showed outstanding discipline throughout this trial. And that judge needs a few weeks off to clear the cobwebs from that PoS.
