@GrootGuy Its legally defined for firedepartments, police services and fire deparment ambulance services. Private or volunteer stations may have siren type that divert from whats more legally common.

do the departments choose the siren types for each vehicle, or is it like a law or something?

@702xRyder I'm sorry but I disagree with you about the blinkers... They use them because it's the law and it shows courtesy to other drivers by telling them where they're going. It's not because we're talking about emergency vehicles that they should drive without due regard. On the opposite, "with great power (or, should we say, with lights and siren :P), comes great responsibility" ;)

@jimmiandfunny Officer cars are usually ruby coloured rather than the eye tearing fire-red.

@dcentral yes i agree 2 strobes on the front for a ladder truck is not enough, but strobes are not that bad its just that on the video it looks crap but in reality its beter than halogen lights, if you look closer the ladder truck has also 2 grill leds so its okay

It's a VW Tiguan, isn't it? Why does it have this particular color? It's ruby-colored rather than fire-red. May be a present from VW dealer because no-one wanted to buy that car?

@702xRyder You are right about needing viability, you are wrong though about having an excess amount of lights and not using a turn signal, I do agree with the comments from bigdon2k5, collin341, jeanphilippeg.

@call17police That's because they both are equipped with American Federal Signal lightbars. ; ) 2 strobe beacons on a ladder truck don't even look like they're flashing. On a bright sunny day those strobes are worthless.

@702xRyder Thats what you think. But its just becuse americans drive with there eyes closed. Here in Europe we pay attention when we drive!
