Chicago spends $30,000 dollars a year per student yet the average in the state of Ill. is $12,457. Chicago has one of the worst school district in the nation. This is where your Taxes are going.

Yah. Every time, when property taxes get ridiculous, there is corruption. I live in the town with the best public schools in the country, they sure spend all kinds of $ on those kids and taxes are quite low. But many people who live here are involved in the DC government so they are less likely to accept $ mismanagement. It’s always crazy that the richest towns with the best schools have the lowest taxes. That should tell you something.
If you are friends with Toni Preckwinkle, she will say that your property is worth nothing so you can get a tax break and then you can sell it for millions like her friends did :(

With that much money going to public services then cook county should have the best schools, roads, police, fire, emt, parks etc in the whole of the world and the history of America.
Property taxes would be alot lower for people without kids and should be paid by parents with kids in school...like college, why should we who don't have children pay for a family of 10 kids' education...
Pappas will get a large pension from local government at the expense of the property owners. That's why the huge squeeze on property taxes. It's not about schools. It's about the large pension deficit for city workers like this useless bureaucrat. People should move out of the state.

So it the taxes that’s the problem or the cause, which is the cost of everything- The ability to legally decide profit margins without any justification other than how much you believe your time is worth, producing a product or service? We blame government for our ills when we are the government. We are eating ourselves from the inside out because of the cultural beliefs of who we think we are, what we deserve and can only be weighted by what we think other don’t deserve.. Our value system has been a sickness for hundreds of years (not too many generations ago) and now the chickens are coming home to roost. There’s no getting out of this now, without a value system overhaul.

KEY FEATURE: Whatever the ruling, it must be re-litigated year-to-year. The people of Cook County should not complain. They have the best government that money can buy.

There is nothing wrong with high property taxes. When you look at the benefits of living in Chicago and Cook County with it's excellent schools, clean safe streets, beautiful clean parks, and the highly motivated workforce that comes with above average salary and stable pensions for their employees. Taxpayers should be grateful.
It's sad Americans do not understand the property tax laws of our great country. Property taxes are a direct tax, not on the real estate or home, but on the owner. Any direct taxes are due to apportionment or census on a state level. The state government cannot legally pull a number out of thin air and raise individuals property taxes arbitrarily.
Taxes on one of you most substantive rights is a misapplication of state statutes intended for commercial properties. Stop challenging the amount of the assessment which says you are ok with the tax, just not the amount. The question is…if the state which is restricted by the constitution to impose taxes on your non commercial property lacking a taxable situs, how was the municipality granted the power? This is as unconstitutional as the day is long. Know your rights.
