I love Puppet Combo and in some areas this game actually seems to exceed their work. The intricately detailed world-building and environmental storytelling is so amazing to see and pick apart.
The true crime references, the horror references, the dialogue, the design, the commentary on life in Florida: all gorgeous. This is a work of art. 10/10 Pinto.
I love the dialogue so much man. I love the little jabs, like the creep who was making bombs in his apartment and was on 4chan and had actual red pills next to the laptop, the Jonestown laced Kool Aid or that Watari guy dressing like Jacket from Hotline miami (chicken mask and everything) and even fucked around with the russian mafia. Clever references
Thanks, I had a lot of fun sneaking in little homages to media I hold dear. The whole game is pretty much an eclectic celebration of things that inspired me while taking the piss out of whack shit. Glad you enjoyed the dialogue too, this was my first time creating and fleshing out characters beyond just their visual appearance and it was awesome getting to insert a little bit of my humour through them.
If you are curious enough, here are translations from russian block in part 2: 12:46 - "Syberia, Kemerovo, Izhmorsky (district in Kemerovo), Goncharick Sergey (name and surname)", further on the wall in white - "Crimea Russia" 12:49 - behind gopnick: "Lugansk, Ukraine, Putin" 13:38 - Bartender calls you "зайчик", which is diminutive, means "bunny" 13:58 - thug with Kalashnikov says "Lenin is dead, but his deeds and work lives on" На здоровье!

Wow, you fight Ichi the Killer! This game is amazing. So many great little environmental touches. Really like the way you discover new story threads as you explore the apartment block too. It's very cleverly made.
I had to pause the video. A lot. Sometimes missed and had to go back. It was worth it, cayse the writing was top notch. Still, a pretty major flaw imo.
Dude, Shadow Man was fucking fantastic. Underrated gem, that one. I'd almost put it in the same tier as Legacy of Kain as far as interesting story concepts, and that's my favorite series of all time.
I really like the Merchant reference in this. - In fact all the references in this game are very good Silent Hill etc - also there seems to be a Dreamcast symbol on one characters head.
The flophouse reminds me of that one Courage the Cowardly Dog episode, Courage in the Big Stinkin' City, where Courage opens doors and there's something strange (violin girl).

I gotta say, I adore the grimy, immersive atmosphere, insane apartments, low poly aesthetic, and witty dialogue that this game offers. I'll definitely watch part 2 ;).
So I had a question that's driving me crazy. There had been a video uploaded about a series of five PS1 style horror game based on dreams, and I wanted to watch it again because of the trapped one, which was incredibly well done and suspenseful. Only for some reason I can't find that video anymore. I swear I saw it on this channel, but am I remembering that wrong?
@@CoffeeAnimeLove Aw I really appreciate you going through the trouble of helping me. It's definitely the same idea, but that's not the one I was thinking of. It was a fairly short video. Less than 20 minutes I'd say, and it was a "game" (more of a walking simulator) made of about five or so segments. I couldn't find it so I'm guessing it was deleted for one reason or another.

Someone is a Resident Evil fan. The opening looks like the back ally from RE2 as well as the HUD & the merchant dialogue from RE4 from the hand in the box. Love it.
When the era of PS1 style graphics games passes over I guess it'll go to PS2-era graphics games? That's gonna be weird if that's what's next. Can't even picture that as being something outside of its own time for some reason, whereas I could have imagined the other retro styles coming back. Edit: Okay I guess after looking back at some PS2 horror games I could imagine it repackaged in a modern way like the recent era of indie horror games have been.
Can anyone recognize all the movie title references? I recognize The Green Hell is supposed to be the Green Inferno which was another name for Cannibal Holocaust, Son of Sal is clearly a nod to Son of Sam, Heaven's Front Porch is obviously about the Heaven's Gate cult. I'm 80% sure A Floridian Film is supposed to sound like A Serbian Film but after that I loose the thread. Are these all supposed to be named after old, Creepy horror movies or am I off here?
I can't figure out how to complete the Alien Cult thread because you skipped over the part where you got the lead pipe (edit): I got it. for anyone else trying to play this for themselves who are also as bad at searching like me. you get the Lead Pipe on the other end of the 2nd floor parallel to the Cultists room in Apartment 314 that you get into by breaking the door open using the crowbar. on the floor is the Pipe. I found this out on accident.
I don't know it is unplayable for me. When during the game I press escape to change some settings the mouse stays on the screen and from that point on it is not the crosshair that can I can use to interact with objects but the mouse. Exiting to main menu asks for confirmation but it does not react no matter what I push or click on, same goes for Quit. I could noly exit t his mess with Alt + F4. I don't know if this only occurs on my PC or if others have the same issues.
Saw a tweet abt this on Twitter a few months ago and forgot to follow the dev. I love that the actual textures are pixelated rather than putting a filter on everything
