I gotta say this... I just love you and Danny so much. I love who you are and how you’ve chosen to live. And I truly admire your mission in life, the mission that has everything to do with how you touch the lives of everyone around you. Thank you for being the type of people who choose to do that.

Miss Lori, these stories transported me back to my happy childhood with two parents that grew up during the Depression! My twin and I were given up for adoption and these “salt of the earth “ parents took us both and showered with love( not gifts) and their attention which was all we wanted.Times were hard but we were always happy with the little we had and never compared ourselves to those wealthier because we were content just to be together.I really miss them and our sweet family life!❤️

My mom and dad were depression babies and told stories of what growing up was like for them. Looking back, their stories make me feel like my brothers and I grew up in the lap of luxury even though we really didn't. My Grandpa (Mom's dad) saved up and built their house with his own two hands. It wasn't a big place but us grandkids loved It! They had an out building that was full of such wonderful "stuff"; my brothers, cousin, and I would spend hours playing with all of it. Their house didn't have a bathroom in it until Mom was in her early teens and even then, you had to go out the kitchen door and walk across the back porch to use it. Grandpa passed when I was 5 and I cherish every memory of him and wish he could have still been here while we were all growing up. Mom's mother ( Grampsie) passed just after I turned 11 and miss her dearly...she left me her old Singer sewing machine and I just about sewed with it right into the ground but still have it because there's no way I'm ever getting rid of it. Thanks for reminding us of simpler times and bringing back loving memories. Bless you always and ❤!

Ohhhh Miss Lori, your recipe couldn't have come at a better time for me. My Husband was recently hospitalized with kidney failure. He was put on a restrictive diet and I found myself thrust into the crazy world of a plant-based diet. Your recipe was a blessing for me. As he is recovering, his appetite is coming back and I'm positive this recipe will be one that will make him smile. Keep us in your prayers. It's not easy feeding a man who never cared much for vegatables this blasted plant based diet. Hugs to you and Mr Brown Ü

I wanted to reach out to you, first to let you know I will pray for you 🙏. Second, I can relate. The first week of January, my son had accute Liver failure. He was very close to death. It was extremely stressful and tough to say the least. He had to eat a Mediterranean diet along with medication. The good news is that he is well enough to go back to work just this week. The diet was probably the most important part of his recovery. God Bless.
@kittyrichards9915

Be careful with "sugar free" items. These type foods contain artificial sweeteners that are very hard on the kidneys. Stevie or maybe monk fruit are much better options as they are plant based. Confirm this with your doctor.

In 1963 my Daddy built my gramma her first ever in door bathroom with tub and toilet. Grampa had a small dairy and they had an outhouse and bathed in a galvanized tub in the kitchen with water heated from the stove. I was almost 5 at the time but I remember Daddy building the bathroom off the back door. My gramma was so proud of that bathroom that her son-in-law built for her. Grampa used the old outhouse while he was working outside but he was happy to have indoor facilities.

I made the zucchini / lemon bread minus the glaze and it turned out very good. I just need the Cool Whip for this yummy dessert. I love that book. I've been giving to my granddaughter's family this week. Some school uniforms, a walker for the youngest, socks, extra food I get from the food bank and recyclables for gas money. They drive my old car. Sometimes the needy is close to home. Kids and the elderly come first. I respect Mr. Brown for providing for his family all those years. That's what real men do. Lovely video. Enjoyed this video very much Miss Lori. I was in a situation when my boys were very young. I ended up being a single mom, I worked but my pay didn’t go very far and I was really struggling. I went for help and was told I made 10 cents to much. I was told if I quit my job I would qualify for everything. Well I just couldn’t do that, I was raised to work hard and make my way. It was hard and that Christmas I had no money to get food or any presents for my boys. Someone put my name in for help and I was able to go to the youth center and pick 3 small toys for my boys and they also put my name in for a food basket. What a gift that was. God answered my prayers for help. My boys told me when they grew up that was the best Christmas they ever had. I couldn’t believe it. It just goes to show you don’t have to have a bunch of gifts under the tree they were satisfied with the little bit they got. Now I donate every year to help someone out that was in my same situation. Love you and Mr Brown and all your videos. I was wondering, are you going to do another cook book? I have that exact same book and have read it more than once. In fact I have down by my chair now and have been reading in it lately. I think about those who left their homes and traveled loaded down with all they could carry and went to another state in hopes of finding work. Sometimes they did not find work and had no money to return home. Once in a while someone where they went would let them camp on their property until they could move on. People helped others out if they could. Now with the way things are going for our country I plan on using this book as a reference. Take care in this heat. We are having high heat also here in Wisconsin. Takes a lot out of a person.

I haven't grown any for a long time but they stand out in my mind as such a lovely, kinda old fashioned flower. My folks always grew them along the veggies in the garden. Seems like as the years have gone by faster all the time I'm drawn so to the wonderful days of childhood. I long to go home to the country where time passed slower, longer days ending with the sense of contentment of a hard days work surrounded by my family.

I put sugar free chocolate pudding on the graham cracker crust and top it with that same sugar free cool whip. Btw, this strawberry recipe looks yummy and super easy and I happen to have all of those ingredients in my kitchen. So, looks like I’ll be making that tonight for my husband. He’s going to love it. I am thinking about selling and downsizing--well more land and less house. That looks delicious and cool! Yes That story reminds us how blessed most of us are. I can remember the simple times though. When both my parents had passed my sister and I decided we would not go all out on gifts again and to enjoy each other's company and enjoy the true meaning of Christmas and it has been some of the best Christmas's since. No stress. We sometimes go and visit relatives in NC and just enjoy family now. It means so much now. I'm so ready for fall and the coziness of the season. I love being a giver. It blesses me so much more than ever receiving something. I try to do it humbly and without recognition as Jesus would do. The Lord lets me know who really needs it. Giving of your time is the greatest gift to give to the elderly. I have an elderly neighbor that comes by once a week. She comes by to visit for a while. She is 84 and lives down the street. Sometimes I just want to shut my door and not answer, but then I remember how important it is to her to let her think she is helping me out. I just smile and listen to the same stories week after week. And when she leaves I am not really sure if she knows just how much I appreciate her. You and Mr. Brown have a blessed week!

Hi Ms. Lori. I'm a retired Activity Director for a hospital Long Term Care. I enjoy your reading of We had everything but money. I use to have a weekly program called Reminisce. I would bring out the Reminisce magazine and focus on a particular article. I put together "kits" of items that went with the story. Back to school, or babies, Christmas, Thanksgiving, weddings... Props like a diaper bag filled with baby items, or school supplies... Everybody could pass those around the table. It meant so much to them. I loved all my moms and dads. Best job I ever had. What a blessing from God. He gave me what I had missed out on. How great is our God. Look forward to more stories and chats. 💝💝💝

Thank you Miss Lori. Love you and Mr. Brown. I was raised by my grandmother and Pap too. She taught me like your grandma to stock up. It’s a way of life. I have canned for over 45 years. Our oldest always says Mom you were doing all this before it was popular. Haha. Thank you for the recipes for 2. My husband is diabetic and these recipes are so helpful. I would love to start making our own bread again like when our kids were growing up but we can’t eat it up fast enough. Any suggestions. I am thankful for your and Mr. Browns insight on life as we are Christians too. You both are so encouraging and comforting. Thank you. Love you both.

Ms Lori, I always enjoy when you share your books and stories with us--so heartwarming! I also want to tell you how much I appreciated your honesty when it comes to preserving/canning/freezing, etc. There is a time when each family needs to consider how much they need and then plan accordingly. I'm older than you and Mr Brown, and my husband and I had to scale back some on how much we grew and how much we put up. Like you said, after you've filled your own space, and your kids' and neighbors' pantries, it's time to rest, lol. As an old gal who thinks you and Danny are God's gifts to all of us, I want to encourage you to take really good care of yourselves. Our hands, knees, and backs often pay a price if we're big gardeners. Didn't mean to lecture you, but simply to encourage you to keep on letting the Lord lead you in all areas. Love you both! BTW, I just can hardly wait to see what your surprise is all about!!!

I can almost smell that coffee. Wish I could have a cup with you. That's just how I like my coffee too! I got me a couple quarts of pickled peaches from the Amish fruit stand the other day. I've been craving them lately. Mama used to put them up when I was a kid and boy I love them! I got her and daddy 2 quarts too and they were just tickled. I grow my own herbs too. It's been so hot here in Florida I had to bring them inside or they were gonna burn up. Mama used to make little parfaits like that in the 70's in little glasses like that. She would mix up her Jello seperated from the cool whip mix like you made. She'd do them in layers. If your fridge has wire shelves, you pour the Jello and put the glass in fridge on that wire rack and you tip the glass at an angle and let that Jello set. Then you add a layer of the cool whip mixture. She'd alternate the layers with 2 or 3 layers of each and they were so pretty and fancy looking too. We just loved them. It was one of those special desserts we only had on occasion. I bet you've made those yourself Miss Lori. I gotta say though, most nights, dessert was a buttered biscuit with heavy dark cane syrup or sorgham molasses. Cause we was poor, of course I mean money wise. But we sure were rich in love and all that brings. I remember heating water on the stove for baths because there was no water heater. Mama used to make my dresses and western shirts with yokes and pearl snaps for the boys and daddy. She even made my Barbie clothes and she had really cool outfits too. This was the 70's and my Barbie was in the coolest styles. She made Barbie long skirts, pantsuits, denim jeans and a matching blazer! I know that was tough to make. She even crocheted a few items for her. Mama was so creative and everything she did like that was an act of love. I remember one Christmas in particular there was no money for gifts so mama made our presents. I got a crocheted purse, made of granny squares with a strap that made it hang to my waist. She also crocheted a little hat to match it. Then she bought me a pair of green gloves to go with them. I kept those things until We lost everything in a hurricane. They were so precious. We may have done without things we wanted but never done without things we needed. God was so good to us. Mama always found a way to help others who had even less than us. We were very fortunate to be raised the way we were. We lived close enough that we could walk to church. It was a very small country church and almost everybody was kin. If there was 20-25 people there, that was a full house. I can remember Sunday dinner on the ground. Those were my favorite Sundays. I remember we'd kill a rooster for fried chicken for Sunday dinner because the preacher was coming over to eat with us. The summertime revival was another really good memory and the biblical Christmas plays about the birth of Christ. They are all such special treasured memories. I relate to you so much Miss Lori. I feel like I'm around kin when I watch y'all. Sorry, I didn't mean to write a book.

My favorite story was about the woman who helped the poor family. Like your family, we were country folks. We had a garden, a cow, and chickens. Never did we go without delicious food since my mom was a great cook. Dad had a good job working a pipe shop. My sister says that we were poor but I disagree. I'm happy that I lived as we did during the best years in this Nation. I was born in 1947 so it is easy to decide when those years were. It's my joy to sit in the mornings with a cup of coffee and tune in to whatever you're doing I adore your life as it reminds me so much of mine, as a child. May God bless you and Mr. Brown in all that you do. A huge fan from Bama.

I do like decorating for the holidays and cooking good food and just being with family playing games etc. I have not cooked while it is so hot! Just a lot of cold cuts, cheese fruit and salads! I love your little cabin also! Your sugar free dessert looks so refreshing!

Thank you for that dessert I didn't know they had sugar-free Cool whip. When I was a kid there were several of us kids we were a poor family. But not as poor as some of the villagers at the Indian village. My dad would cut Christmas trees and deliver them with cases of food. That the Indian colony those people were so grateful I went into their house and they just had dirt floors. It was very heartwarming to see that we could give to these people. My dad did it every year. Those were joyous times in my life. God bless you and mr. Brown. 🙏🙏🤗❤️
