Actually washing them makes perfect sense seeing how the FDA doesn’t care about using chemicals on our food. Even rice can has arsenic on it. Rinsing is sooooo smart! Happy to meet you and learn from your cooking styles! ♥️

@@angiecarter8979 Well, and this is just for one example, consider many pesticides and fungicides need to remain on the crop in order to be effective, so chemicals are used to make them stick, otherwise they would rinse off in rain or overhead irrigation. This is why they use chemicals to help the pesticides stick. When rinsing the food, only water soluble chemicals would have a chance of being washed away. But, you won't find much water soluble chemicals because they aren't practical for them to be used. Washing rarely hurts (washing raw meats spreads bacteria that would already be killed when cooking, so it's better not to rinse it), but to break chemical bonds that may be keeping something on your food is not often as simple as washing in water, which I believe is what @jtampasaint was saying.

Yes ma’am! I always rinse my rice, beans, grits, etc before cooking. And I freeze any cornmeal or flour at minimum overnight when I first get it. I do like to add half water/half milk or cream and loads of butter into my grits (just like my Daddy did). Then I just let them cook low and slow…my Daddy always used to tell me longer when I’d try to take them off the stove! The longer they cook down the creamier they get. So delicious with over medium fried eggs mixed into them. There is no better breakfast!

Well I’ll be! My Mama never washed hers, so I didn’t. I’ll never cook grits again though without washing them. I saw the water getting clearer and clearer as you washed the grits. That is important, as well as getting most of the black things out. Thank you so much for that. I’m 70 and just learned a new trick! I loved hearing you say, “Wash your hands!” My Dad never let me enter the kitchen without asking, “Did you wash your hands?” He did it so much, it was like a joke. I would never enter the kitchen without doing that. My pet peeve is not changing out the hand towels. They must be changed out every day. If they are used a lot, twice a day. Some people never change them out but every few days. That is nasty. It’s the same with the dish cloth. Get a new one every day, and don’t let it stay in the bottom of the sink either. Anyway, I loved you saying to wash your hands, and the Dudes were adorable.

I know that’s right. My Mother always washed her grits and I do too. When other people saw me wash grits they tripped out and was telling any and everyone asking them had they ever heard of anybody who wash grits. Yep that’s also how I wash mine.My Mother was the only person I have ever seen wash grits until now seeing you do the same.🙏🏽❤️

Growing up our parents never washed grits and they were always delicious! But this generation everything Foods, etc is not like it use to be back in the day in the year 70s and before , But for me as if today year 2000, yes I have to wash those grits. I have to wash my grits like 5 or 6 times or more until I am content and try to pick out as much specks as I can. And I cook my grits about 45 minutes to an hour, because I use Old Fashion Quaker Grits. And I like them creamy medium, meaning not watery and not dry, but creamy😁👍💕💕💕💕

Lady Donna, you are SO right! Never understand how people can use the bathroom, then leave without washing their hands. Anyhoo... I "wash" my grits, too. I don't measure them (I just "eyeball" them), but I do wash them. I don't like those specks. When my momma taught me to fix them, the goal was to avoid getting popped by them while they were boiling. She didn't turn them down by much at all! 😂 She cooked them with the lid off to avoid their running over.

That's soooo nasty! And to think some people even walk out without washing their hands when people are in the bathroom! I mean I'm standing at the sink washing my hands and they come out the stall and walk right out the door!!! Uggghhhhhh just nasty!!!! #YouWashYo'GritsToo! LOL!!!

Or just see them in public restroom & they just run their hands under the water & shake them out & the soap is right there and they don’t use it.

When we were growing up our grandparents and parents did not wash grits, and I tell you what, they were delicious! 😁😁😁💝✌🏾 I always thought the specks were bugs, but I learned it is not. But I wash my grits now.😁

😬The dislikes... Is exactly Who's food y'all should stay away from! Don't eat their food folks 💯 they dirty and don't be washing their hands!! 😏And thanks Ma'am for showing how to wash grit's, my family is super clean and that's how my grandmother raised all 8 of her children and my Mom is the oldest and this is how she is 💯 and her food was absolutely the best ever!! She had a stroke a year ago now and I now cook for my 70yr old Mom because she can't do it any longer for herself due to the stroke affecting her right side of body.... But I just love doing it so much for her, my parents took great care of me so Im all here for it and taking care of them is a blessing💯💯❤️👍!! But I can't wait to show my Mom that I'm washing the grit's😉👏!! I Only like salt and butter in my grit's I also put just a dusting of onion powder in my salted water as it is boiling.... not heavy at all... it really sets them grit's off💯💯!! And when people eat them they say it's so delicious and they can't figure out why it taste so much better than theirs!! 🤭I be like well you need to learn how to cook your grit's lol 😉Trust me try it!! Gods blessings great video 👍

Heyyyyy!!! And you're exactly right!!! "Don't eat their food"!!!🤣🤣🤣 It's such a blessing that you CAN and are WILLING to take care of your mom. I totally agree!!! Our parents took great care of us, and as they age and really need us, we should be there to take care of them!!!🥰🥰🥰 And I might have to try that "dusting of onion powder" in my water to see if my Dude#1 tastes a difference.😊 Blessings to you as well!!!🥰😊

Donna said this is how SHEEEEE does it…not how YOU should do it….geesh. 😊My granny was one of those southern cooks who could cook ANYTHING WELL..except grits n rice….because she didn’t rinse em and they were both thick…YUCK🤢
