I remember coming across a manifold cook book years ago - the cooking "times" were all in miles. The only time I did something like this was when traveling with my first (infant) son and had to warm bottles of cold formula (glass bottles) and it did the trick. Oh, and regarding the aluminum foil - it makes no difference whether you put shiny or dull side down as far as heat retention. Dull vs shiny is simply an artifact of the manufacturing process, in which two sheets are passed together between steel rollers as they're drawn down to the final thickness. Shiny doesn't make food heat any faster than dull.

My grandmother told me years ago about a trip she took in 1930, she drove a 1927 ford phaeton from St. Louis Missouri to Long Island New York with her 3 very young daughters (one of them being my mother) she told me most of the roads were dirt and there were not many road signs guiding her along the way. She told me they would camp along the road the whole way and eat meals made on camp fires. I wonder if she ever made the meals this way. Great videos!

@@ModelA Great videos by the way. In the words of the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz (kinda)..."If I only had an A". I'd like to get involved in a club (will Covid ever go away?) to learn more about the cars and figure out which version fits me best (6'2"). I've heard the Tudor allows some rearward movement of the driver's seat. My goal would be to take longer trips in whatever I get, replacing my motorcycle in that role. I'm in Northern California now, but was raised in Indiana. In the '30s my uncle and a couple friends scraped together a few bucks and bought a Model A. They told their parents they were driving to Michigan (summer before their senior year in high school), but ended up in California. What could go wrong? They survived on little money, working along the way to pay for food and gas. Several times the car broke down and they repaired it and continued on, eventually returning home to worried parents but were the envy of their high school class.

I tried watching the Mecum auction. Even though I have attended the Monterey Mecum in person, it just gets boring on TV unless they have the kind of cars I like. I didn't get to see any Model A's. When Tina and I were at the Monterey auction once, we arrived before they opened and got to ha g out with the crew and listen in on their pre-auction briefing. Tina walked up to Dana Mecum to say hi, and mispronounced his last name. He corrected her with a real pissed off look and walked away. It was pretty funny really. That blonde woman who closes the hoods was really weird. She has that same blank look even when you talk to her, and she doesn't say much.

@@ModelA Yes I agree ! when you get behind the scenes, the people almost always are a lot different than what they like to portray! I guess their so-called fame goes to their head! That blonde lady does act weird, maybe she is a robot! I guess I just watched for something to do, I like lots of different cars, but my favorites are really about 36 and back and especially 29-32 any brand, so ya it's hard to sit through all the high dollar muscle cars, even though I'm the right age for those. On the plus side, I noticed that the 30s cars are not as high as they were a few years ago, making it easier for someone to get into a car. Yesterday a good looking 1916 Studebaker sold for 9,000 which I thought was a bargain! The model As I saw sold were a immaculate 30 or 31 fordor deluxe with twin sidemounts. Looked like a high dollar restoration and well worth the 26,000 that it sold for. Other one was a right hand drive Victoria, that appeared in nice shape, seemed to be a real bargain at 7,000 ! Of course you still have to add on your Buyers Fee to these prices! Yup auction co. makes money on buyer and seller plus charges you for the (privilege) of bidding! No wonder they are so Arrogant! Sorry about taking so long, thanks for the response, I always enjoy your videos.

@@dejaydavisson9938 Some of the Mecum people were really nice. That floor runner guy they call the Crazy Chicken was hilarious! Most of the people who deive the cars through were interesting too. The crew you never see that drives the trucks full of equipment and do the setup and teardown are super interesting. They have that down to a science!! The way it all goes together is engineering genius. We were sitting next to a guy who bought a couple cars. He bought a Ford GT racecar for $400K and some other Shelby car for $300K. We were chatting with him and his wife like old friends not even knowing he was a bidder until that GT came up. Come to find out, he was a well known guy. We were gonna id on a Model A but when we looked at the car close up before the auction, we discovered it was a nice cosmetic resto but a loust mechanical one and that lowered what I was willing to bid. The bidding quickly went beyond my budget anyway. It ended up going to an internet bidder in Japan. Oh, that reminds me... The cars outside waiting to go over the auction block are fully on display. You can sit in them, open everything up, do whatever you want except start them. They encourage you to fully examine the car before it goes on the block. Very hands-on! After they cross the block, you're not allowed to touch them unless you won it.

Question: What's the details on your tube type kitchen radio? (Love to see your collection)
@ModelA
@ModelA 3 года назад
That's a Crosley "Musical Chef" radio from the early 50's. It is our only kitchen timer. I also listen to news on it in the morning when making hot beverages to wake up.

The timer goes up to 1 hour. It has such a nice loud DING! when it goes off, I can hear it anywhere in the house.

Now if we can get Paul to insert an infomercial at the end of his Model A video. This infomercial would show off a radio we have spotted during the regular Model A Video. :-)

Also how many miles did you put on that model A? When I get my hands on my own model t I want to attempt putting 20k to 100k miles on it throughout driving. Of course mine will be more built to handle that

Luckily, we don't have that problem over here. Manifold cooking doesn't cause any harm to the car as long as you don't spill all over everything. The worst that ever happened is I cooked a distributor once. But it was my fault, and a 100+ degree day.
