No matter what Tipper cooks, the way the green beans are prepared never fails to take my breath away. In NYC, green beans are always green and crisp. Only the Greeks and my Scots Irish father cooked them like Tipper. Old man has been gone 50 years. Just watching Tipper's family enjoying that recipe makes me smile. 💕 ♥️ 💜 💙
I love seeing Matt sit at the dinner table with his cap on. My husbands caps were on his head everywhere but church and the bed. That didn’t go over well with my dad when we were just dating, but after a while dad saw what a good man he was and the cap at the dinner table was no longer an issue. Your channel always brings up such good memories for me. I am reminded that whether you are from NC and I am in SoCalifornia , as my grandpa would say, “folks is folks.”
When you said Silver Queen corn, my eyes teared up. My mother froze bags and bags, and we feasted all year long. You cook the way my mother taught me, and she cooked the way her mother and grandmother taught her, just the way Grannie and Grannie Gazzie taught you. Your channel truly celebrates Appalachia the way so many of us experience life in Appalachia. Thank you so much.
I so love your family! I don't always comment but I always watch & leave a like. I just want to see you go on and on. Bless each and every one of you!! You're just wonderful!❤
This was absolutely wonderful. This reminds me of the times when all of us kids would come back home to visit my mom. She would have a feast of our favorite dishes of homegrown vegetables and meat that was either hunted for or raised. We looked forward to her peach cobbler and homemade ice cream. It's those types of memories that makes me appreciate good ole country living and family.
My favorite thing on your channel isn't any particular thing that y'all do ---it's the obvious love that you all have for each other. Thank you for sharing it with us. We've got the same thing here, but I think it's rarer these days. -much love from NJ ~Mary & fam
One year I harvested 409 cucumbers from my circle garden. It seemed that I was giving away cucumbers all summer. I like to add 1/2 tsp. of baking powder to my 1 Cup Cobbler batter and pour it over the fruit. I've also used the juice from canned berries in place of the milk to make the batter purple.
Your wonderful cooking makes me think of the wonderful meals my MawMaw use to make. I’m so blessed to still have her with us but she is no longer able to cook. She will be 98 in July. I enjoy your videos so much, thank you for sharing with us. Btw, I have lived in North Carolina all my life and my family and I love the North Carolina Mountains! We are from the piedmont. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family.❤
You inspired me to make cobbler. The only fruit I had was canned pineapple.. so that with whipped cream on it will be dessert. I remember my grandmother's cobbler fondly. They had a farm, always lots of frozen peaches, apricots, and more. Take care
Happy happy birthday to Granny. Precious lady. I celebrated 63 years of life March 11. The daffodil’s remind us warm weather is approaching. Love the jewelry Katy makes. I will go over to her store. I’m always days late watching videos…work, but it’s always so refreshing to catch up with your family when I’m off. Happy St Patrick’s day.
My husband and Justin's mother worked together at Hiawassee Dam. We were able to get to know Justin and Jason. What a wonderful christian family. God Bless this precious family. Fly high Justin.
I remember canning with my great grandmother all summer in her non-air conditioned home! It was a relief when night came and the temperatures fell into the 60’s (used to have those big swings from night to day when I was younger). Pickled beets were mya favorite to can. To this day I’ll buy enough beets to put up about 6 cans, I live in a big city now and it’s the way I keep in touch with the memories of home.
Growing up my mom would pick a warmish day in the spring, and reorganize the cellar so that the oldest was at the front of the selves. We also sprouted potatoes, a job I hated. She also when I was little made cobbler using pie crust. They were really rectangular pies I guess but we called it cobbler anyway.
What a meal/feast! Makes you feel good to have harvested or hunted your food. Makes me feel self-reliant. Great that you all get together once a week. Thanks for sharing once again!
Thank you for letting me see the creeks run. It’s hot down here in Florida. I just watched & remembered my days of sitting with my feet in the creek looking for crawdads. I reckon people call’em crawfish 🦞, but I wasn’t taught them fancy names, so crawdads it is 😂 May you stay Blessed ❤️🙏🏻😇❤️
I never drain my green beans because that would be pouring vitamins & minerals right down the drain and my Kentucky grandma told me that. Wonderful meal but what made it the best was sharing it with loved ones!
The food looked wonderful and yes, we feel more satisfied when we worked to prepare our food. Thank you for sharing. May God keeps on blessing your family.
Resembles what we had for supper. Country fried deer cube steak, home grown and canned green beans ,coleslaw and rice and gravy. I still have butternut squash but it didn’t make it to the table tonight. Good eating for sure. I make the same type of cobbler as well. My grandmother’s recipe, that recipe works for just about any fruit.
My Mom was not a great cook. Except she made fabulous pies. We never found many elderberries so she would mix them with fresh peaches. Also she hated berry seeds. She would run blackberries or raspberries thru a sieve and then put sliced apples in the pie with the strained berries. Its amazing. She was from hill country in Ohio. Never knew anyone else to do those things. Love the channel
What a delicious meal!!! I also notice in your videos that the men get fed first which was always true in our family too. I like that. It’s a sign of appreciation and respect. 😊❤
Tipper, your supper looks so good! We had fried potatoes, collard greens and Crowder peas. You fry your deer meat the same way we do; flour, salt and pepper! Simple but so good!
The best thing about home-canned green beans is they never taste like a tin can! Like tomatoes fresh from the garden, no can from the store can compare to that taste!
I cook my green beans for hours until the water is almost gone. I also add about 1/2 tsp sugar. My grandmother did this and she was from Black Mountain. 😊 Her mom grew up in Spruce Pine. Interesting how they did it differently just a ways down the road. 😊 As always, continued prayers for everyone ❤.
Nice for you to make peach cobbler so that Austin can enjoy a dessert despite his intolerance for blackberries. I see that Justin Hamby (in whose memory you dedicated this video) was only forty years old when he passed away -- my condolences to his family and friends.
Enjoyed this! That was definitely a feast ! I love everything! The blackberry and peach cobblers looked so delicious! Thanks tipper! God bless y'all...🙏❤️
Dont know if yall ever tried but in a pinch when you dont have ice cream. Half and half or heavy cream is good drizzled over cobbler. Everything looked really good. Cant beat that home grown stuff.
Looks wonderful as always! You're so right - satisfying is a great term for the feeling of preparing a meal from the garden. I'd also add an immense feeling of gratitude. Such a blessing it is.♥️
Great video, enjoyed your chat about putting up your harvest 😊 I've been interested in canning for years but it just makes me too nervous to try it so I just wind up using the freezer for my small garden. Some things obviously don't freeze well though, so it can be a bit of a problem sometimes. Hopefully one day I can get over my canning anxiety, haha.
My mother cooked her fresh green beans in her old cast iron dutch oven. Seasoned with fat back and laid grandma some okra pods on top just for her, She cooked them a long time until they were pratically no juice, YUM !! We had cobblers for dessert !!
Tipper, we’re very close in age, my oldest is 26 and we STILL go to my parents god dinner. And I am the oldest of 4 girls. And after each and every meal, we have to clean the kitchen (with no dishwasher) and it’s been that way as long as I can remember. That was a wonderful meal!
I love silver queen corn. I have made the cobbler many times. A friend shared the recipe with me years ago. She called it "A Cup Of" cobbler. When I asked her about the name, she said it makes the recipe easy to remember. She said you can use any canned fruit, like peaches or pears, in the recipe.
Everything looks delicious! My mom and dad raised and canned just about everything. We, too, love our green beans soft and just about falling apart. I can't see eating them any other way. I always enjoy your family and your videos.
Reminds me so much of my mama’s cooking. She cooked a family meal every Friday night with vegetables she had canned or from the garden. I miss this so much! Your family is so blessed!
Every time I see your copper bottom Revere Ware pot I get so nostalgic…and jealous. I had a few pieces once upon a time and now have just one lonely lid - works great with my small cast iron skillet. 🤷♀ Heaven only knows what happened to them over the years, but they are the best! Love you and all the wonderful memories you bring my way! 💕💕
oh my word all that looks so good, but them pickled beans and corn has my mouth watering!! Silver Queen to me just can't be beat but it's getting harder and harder to find around here. Matts cold sounds much better. I sure miss the days when my girls were home and we sat down at the supper table to eat.
Looked delicious!! That’s nice that you get together once a week for a meal. My daughters don’t live too far, but it’s not in the same area code, and across state lines, so we’re not able to get together as often with everyone’s busy schedules. It’s also still only 30 degrees and more snow coming twice this week, so we tend to do more family things in the Summer. That’s great that you all live close and see each other often.:) God Bless!!🙏🏼✨👍
I just fixed me some roasted butternut squash for my lunch. Some EVOO, allspice, white pepper and garlic. Rubbed it all over the slices and roasted in oven 400 degrees for 15 min. It was devine❤
I make this cobbler in a similar way to the way cornbread is done. Heating a cast iron skillet with the butter until it’s a little browned then pour the batter to get that sizzle. I put half the batter, then fruit, then the other half of the batter. Delicious!
A fine meal with a sweet ending 🙂. Nice that Corie & Austin join ya'll for dinner - helps keep the family close. How do you can your blackberries? They still looked fairly intact not just mush. Blessings
Thank you Cheryl!! I use the open kettle method of canning them-which all experts will say is not safe 😀 But that's how Granny always canned hers and how I've canned mine for many years. Basically everything is piping hot-the blackberries with a little water and sugar if you want to add it, and the jars, lids, rings. As the jars cool they seal.
My Great Grandfather raised his family on a farm, and taught them that exact same thing about always eating "the best you've got", It was so cool to hear you say that! That meal looked so good! It made me hungry again!
I recently opened a jar of cinnamon applesauce dated 2014. Tasted the same as when I put it in the jar I tend to use my oldest cans before the new ones except when company comes.
Hi, Tipper, You are just such a comfort to me, bless you sweetheart, just finishedf watching the 2 Possums and Olive, that was a treat too. Soon n very soon,, prayin' this is so. LOL pIPPI
I was wondering if you ever make casseroles with the older vegetables? That would be a good way to hide their less than perfect flavor. I love your Pap’s mentality, you’re not promised tomorrow so you should eat your best stuff first! Thanks for sharing your cooking wisdom, God bless!
Exactly why I love living in NC...we put up food and have great veggie plates, and all I need is Bicuits and maybe chicken sometimes. Love that cobbler!
Would you share your pickled corn and beans recipe? Forgive me if you have shared it somewhere else but I can't find it. When I heard you say pone of bread by eyes teared up. My momma would say that. She's been gone 4 years, but it seems like yesterday sometimes. Thank you Tipper, your channel, you connect me with my family that's gone and I so appreciate that. Do you know someone who will sell me some leather britches? 🙂
I would love to have your recipe for the "Pickled Onion/Corn" ....everything looked amazing and my husband and I commented that your cooking is just how we cook. We love your channel and the Presley girls channel. I hope you do a video on pickling your corn and onion relish.
@@CelebratingAppalachia Thank you Tipper, I can't wait to make it. Have you ever put onions in this recipe? I love pickled onions and think I will put onions in half to see if its any good.
When my grandma passed away we were going through her stuff we found a jar of green beans my granny had not canned in about 20 years but them green beans was still just as good they were sealed tight
