Cooking with Baba Asad | Our Thoughts on Palestine

Palestinian Kufta Recipe//
Ingredients:
2 lbs ground meat (We used a mix of buffalo & lamb)
1 bunch of Italian parsley
2 medium onions
2 tbs of Arabic mixed spices (seven spice)
Salt to taste (1 1/2 tbs)
Pepper to taste
3 tomatoes
3 yellow potatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
Olive oil
Directions:
Heat oven to 400 F
In a food processor, finely chop parsley and onion
Mix ground meat with the parsley and onion mixture
Add spices and salt to the meat and mix
Press meat mixture into a 9 x 13 baking dish
Slice fresh tomatoes and potatoes
Season sliced potatoes with olive oil, salt and pepper
layer tomatoes and potatoes on top of the meat
Bake at 400F for 30-35 mins
Once finished, separate the meat broth from the pan and add 2 tbsp tomato paste to the broth, whisk together until smooth to create the tomato sauce
Pour this tomato sauce over the meat. Serve with rice and enjoy!

Palestinian Christian here! 👋🏻 I can confirm how peaceful it was before the Nakba. My grandparents and their parents were surrounded by Muslims and even Jews and everyone just lived their lives like it was normal. They were happy. 😢🇵🇸

My parents are from Morocco and I was born in the Netherlands. I grew up hearing about the pleight of the Palestinian people from my parents and people around me. Having read about it myself now as I'm older, it only gets harder and more painful 🇵🇸🇲🇦 inshallah palestina will be free soon

We don’t have to agree about everything to hold space for one another’s story and perspective on things. I have been to Palestine and Israel as a child and I saw with my own eyes that I felt that the Israeli, I am sorry to say the Jewish people of Israel, were doing the same thing to the Palestinian people as the Nazis did to the Jews. That’s how it looked to me with no one telling me what was going on. Now, as a proud revert I am angry and sorry that this has been allowed to continue with the world turning a blind eye.

This was so well articulated by both Baba and Leena💜 May Allah grant you both immense barakah for raising awareness. On the IG eye of Palestine page, they published today that the October 7th deaths/casualties were not singularly down to Hamas. Israel was firing into the crowd of people running away as they could not distinguish between civilians and Hamas, whereby they used their own civilians as shields.

Your dad is the sweetest mA. What a wonderful father! Thank you so much for sharing your stories. They are so important and we are listening with all our heart. As a British Bangladeshi, I often hear the stories of genocide and mass rape of Bangladeshis by West Pakistan in 1971 because my very recent ancestors wanted independence and freedom from the oppression by them. Although we were not born then, there is generational trauma and pain that we carry. A lot of it comes from the lack of justice. We understand the pain, although the situation for Palestine is so so different with ongoing attacks and ethnic cleaning by Israel for 75 years. Enough is enough! Me and my husband are praying and making so much duah for Palestine and for this to end. We love our Palestinian brothers and sisters so so much. When one part of the Ummah hurts, we all hurt. Global markets are all trade and energy, and it is a region very rich in natural natural resources. This is why they have dominated us with proxy wars, destroying many Arab countries, dividing them, displacing their people, or direct occupation, as they did in Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Libya. The list is long. There is a terrible media blackout about what is happening now, for example, in Palestine. On that sacred land, there is a genocide of a defenseless people who have no aircraft, no armor, and no support to defend themselves. Every ten minutes, at least one child is martyred by the highly advanced Israeli occupation forces. They are attacked with internationally banned weapons. They arrive in hospitals in pieces, and the whole world is blind while financial aid is mobilized. And the belligerence of most Western countries and the marketing of the Israeli narrative regarding Hamas (by the way, Hamas is a popular liberation movement that defends its lands and the rights of its people with the simplest means. On October 7, they killed the occupation soldiers, men and a few female soldiers, who had always bombed the Palestinian people in Gaza from these camps, as is known in the occupying state. They do not have civilians. They are all soldiers, men and women, starting from the age of 18. Firstly, you know that Israeli civilians, as is promoted, carry weapons and shoot Palestinians in the West Bank without accountability. I miss my baba. He was the best. A learned man who taught us to fish and swim everyday after school! Took a road trip to several countries just in a moments notice. This was growing up in the Middle East. May Allah have mercy on our parents Ameen. We are blessed to have them as we see so many orphans created in Gaza. Which is the hardest thing for me. My dad and his siblings became orphans overnight due to conflict in the 40s.

Everyday I look at my children I hug them a bit tighter, hold them a bit longer. We are South African and when my father went to Palestine he said it brought back all the memories he had growing up in Apartheid.. he said you will never fully understand that level of degradation until you experience it for yourself.

We are preparing for the largest march for Palestine on the 11th November in London I live hundreds of miles away from London in my town so far we have 4 coaches and 2 mini buses almost 400 people who will be travelling to London and theres many people from all over coming to London on Saturday. We feel so helpless but will do what we can to make a difference. May Allah most high grant victory to the Palestinians.
