1st-don’t pack the flour in the measuring cup.. Loosely put it in to measure. Packing gives you too much flour. 2nd-put yeast in warm water only! Cool will not rise, hot kills the yeast. 3rd-handle as little as possible, yeast creates air bubbles. The more you handle it the more air bubbles are released. 4th-lay a thin cloth on to to hold in the heat when rising. You did nothing wrong, these are things you didn’t know. Also, mixer should only be on low speed. Do get in a hurry. Keep trying!!
Lou, next time you make these rolls, send Dan outside to do a project, and the rolls will turn out perfect😂 If the water is to hot it will kill the yeast, just warm is what it should be. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone ❤
Just 2 suggestions. Yeast blooms at 105-110 degrees. Make sure you check the temp of your water and you need a tsp of sugar in the water yeast mix. When you see a “raft” or a floating top on the yeast it’s ready. Definitely let the egg mixture cool to room temperature. It was very hot and killed your yeast. Then turn the light on in your oven and let the rolls rise in there. The light warms the oven just enough to help the rise. Other than that you did perfectly. Baking is a science. All the things have to be done properly to get a rise. Dan the salt is there to help the flavors meld. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. God Bless❤
If I could afford it, I would send Dan, a cookbook “Baking for beginners “ and “Cooking for beginners“. We know Lou knows how to do the basic stuff. I’m sure she watches cooking shows sometimes LOL (like we all do or did). ❤
Making bread sure is an art in itself. If the water is too hot it kills the yeast , if it’s too cold it doesn’t activate the yeast. I really think you did a great job on your first try. Please don’t give up on roll and bread makings. Is see homemade cinnamon rolls in your future
2 reasons the rolls did not turn out great!!! You used hot water to mix the yeast which kills it!!! Lou only use warm water!!! The second reason is because Daniel handled the dough too much!!! That will make the rolls very dense!!! Lou the next time you are making something you need to send Daniel outside so he can't interfere with your cooking!!! Even I can see that Daniel is a master manipulator!!! 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
I think Dan needed to be in time out...he was like an unruly child. 😅Lou yelling "nope nope" when Dan was putting the massive roll he made on the pan had me crying. 😂 Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on Morrow Hill.
My Grandmom used to cover her rolls with a cheese cloth or something and let them "rest" before she cooked. The dough too sometimes. I guess if she over worked it because it didn't mix hiw she wanted it too she would cover in the bowl and let it rest. And you better not be running through her house, making a bunch of loud noises, or opening up doors letting out her heat! 😂😂😂😂! The good old days! How I miss them! I don't know....I miss her cooking but as a kid I really didn't want to learn how to cook.
Poor Lou She thought she had raised her kids...lol Ole Dan sifting up high and making a mess! Thank yall for this video. Love it! Enjoy you two! Happy Thanksgiving!
You handled the rolls way too much. That's why they were dense. Yes, people who commented. The yeast in WARM water. Then, let it activate. You should have let the dough rise with a warm damp cloth over it. Made the rolls, then let them rise a 2nd time. You two did a great job entertaining all of us. We love you!! Happy Thanksgiving ❤❤❤❤❤
My mom used to make yeast rolls every holiday.. The house would smell so good and they tasted heavenly. I really miss big family get-togethers for TG and Christmas. It has been so many years since our family has been able to do that. I am 10,000 miles away from my family and we don't have TG over here, but it doesn't stop the memories from getting me every time. I watch families like yours and I get lost in memories of my past with all the love and laughter we always had. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. P.S. I think the liquid you put into the batter last was too hot is the reason they didn't rise. It killed the yeast. You will get it.
Happy Thanksgiving Dan and Lou! Now, I’m no professional chef over here but, I would let the mixture that came off the stove cool a bit or mix it into the flour before adding the yeast mixture if it’s too hot you could kill the yeast and it won’t rise.
My husband usually lets me watch the Morrow videos on my own, but he’ll join me watching your videos. He was laughing so hard looking at Lou, “oh my God! She looks like she’s about to stab Dan” 🤣🤣🤣
I have never added my yeast to boiling water butter sugar mix, always let to cool down or it kills the yeast they wont rise no matter how warm the house is. I usually add warm water and teaspoon of sugar to activate the yeast. If my yeast does not start rising, i won't add it to the dough i start over. When yeast starts to grow, then i boil water butter sugar, etc. After adding the boiling mix to the flour, i slowly add yeast start to the mixture. Left rise 30 minutes then shape into balls let rise again and bake. Great video. Steph is a great cook, so anything good is a great compliment from her. Many times, she has had seconds that should speak volumes. Dan playing in the dough reminds me of baking with kids. Having fun in the kitchen makes everything taste better, even the flopping moments. I love the banter between you guys it makes the video. Never know what Dan is going to say or do to Lou. You know its coming you just dont know when or what it will be.
Baking with yeast can be tough. I have a tendency to use too hot of water and it kills the yeast. Some days my stuff comes out fabulous and sometimes not so much. I love that you guys try new things. Happy Thanksgiving to you all! 🦃
Happy Thanksgiving Dan and Lou. Make sure your yeast is not expired and your water is not too hot it will kill the yeast and don't over knead the dough(DAN)
I just love to see lou and lou cooking, so much fun and much better then other cooking cannel, love you morrows. We don't have thanksgiving but i am thank full for al the morrows..much love from the netherlands 🫶😘🍀
Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you for sharing your lives with me and sharing your faith, your family, and, of course , your cooking! All the families on Morrow Hill show us what family is all about. I love to follow all of your channels. May God bless you all, as you have blessed me by sharing your lives.
I had that happen to my rolls except I wasn’t as smart as Lou I didn’t get back up rolls,Your wife is a very smart young lady! Dan hang onto that lady!! Found out my yeast was bad.Happy Thanksgiving to all your family ❤
Lou Lou I’m so happy to see you got a stand mixer!!! it’s a game changer… pro tip tho… make sure you shut it off and use a rubber spatula to scrape sides and bottom good at least once… I also want to say I’m very thankful to of discovered your family and for the laughter that has helped get me through some of my darkest days…thank you so much…❤
Happy Thanksgiving to you and Lou and the Morrow family on and off the Hill. I do love you all. The yeast may have been in hot water instead of warm. It takes a little practice to get it right. It took me a couple of times before they turned out perfect. Lou dont you feel bad cause everyone liked them. Next time without Dan they will be perfect. Love you guys. 😍
When Dan was slapping that dough I’m like that is not going to rise. 😂😂My mom puts them in muffin tins when she makes hers. Lou you were a professional at making them the same size. I laughed when you redid Dans!😂 Happy Thanksgiving to all of Morrow Hill
Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃. I always watch you while I am at Dialysis. You and the family help me pass the time. Thank You for sharing a part of your life with us. 💕
Happy Thanksgiving to another dialysis patient. I hope all is going well. I’ve been on dialysis for over 10 years having these videos. Sure does make it nice that’s all times where you need to smile. Again, happy Thanksgiving to you.
Dan and Lou love watching you two cook. Watched you making rooms. I have made home made rolls for 60 yrs. The only suggestion I have when you melt your yeast water should be bout 110 degree. If any hotter it will kill the yeast. Don't give up on making the rolls.
Happy Thanksgiving Dan, Lou, and family. Dan, you made me tear up. The love you have for Jesus and your family is evident. Since I don't have a yt channel, I bought the rhodes frozen dough balls(they have them at wally world) and I let them rise yesterday and baked 3 dozen last night. My grandmother made the best yeast rolls ever. I sure wish I knew her recipe. ps - I don't like cream corn either.
Happy Thanksgiving Dan and Lou. I wanna say im thankful for all the Marrow's you guys are a big part of my life. I am disable at the age of 52 with fibromialga and a few other illnesses that make me not able to get around good so my holidays are at home with my husband. And you Marrow's make my holidays better when you do a video for me to watch. You always put laughter and a smile on my face. So i am so thankful for you all. I love you as my family. God Bless you all.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of The Morrows! 👍🦃😊 I love your videos & all of the other Family's videos. Thank you for sharing this video with us. 👍🇨🇦😊 I'm going to have to try this recipe for the rolls. I love the smell of baked bread & rolls. 👍👏😊 Even better...eating them while warm...& spread with butter. Thank you for the "shout out" this morning. We all know that you & Lou love each other very much & there is nothing but respect given to each other. It's quite obvious. Most couples like to "razz each other". If you can't tease one another after being married for many years 😊🤷🏻♀️, right?? ...it's good to have a sense of humour & not to take life so seriously sometimes. Oh my goodness...I'm dying...LOL! 😂🤣👏😊👍 Too funny! Lou scolding Daniel...I love it! 😂🤣👏
Happy Thanksgiving Dan and Lou..... and to everyone on Morrow Hill and those living "Off the Hill"! Yeast cant be dissolved in hot water, only luke water or it kills the yeast. Good God Dan........learn some patience 😜😜😜
Happy Thanksgiving Dan and Lou! Next time, all you need is more warmth and those rolls will rise much better. Even covering them will help. Dan, you are the biggest kid ever, when there’s a new “toy” you’ve just got to play with it!😂❤
Lou, Dan was making his hungry man rolls 23:50 to eat. 😂 Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍁 ❤ Thanks for the laughs. My mother 💔 passed 3 days prior to Thanksgiving, so I look for joy through others. ❤ Sheila T
I'll bet Lou is right about the temperature, the yeast, the time it takes to rise ... Etc ... And we get to learn right along with you, great! Thanks 😊
I love you guys! Next time you make rolls when you let them rise sit the pan on your stove top with the oven on. The heat helps them rise. My grandma taught me to that you lay a light weight tea towel over them. You will get it bread is a learned art. Love you all so much and I am very thankful that the entire Morrow family is in my life!💞
I love your dad! With the compliments he's always got one for everyone, such a blessing I believe you two have the most realistic relationships, joking, loving with a little humor with no hurt feelings, all done with love 💚great video, strong hand.. that's what she said 🤣😂
You know I like every episode but I love love loved the family "Happy Thanksgiving." It just gave me a warm feeling . Happy Thanksgiving, Morrow family.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, Dan and Lou. My life is extremely hectic being a caregiver. Don’t get me wrong it is truly an honor to take care of them. I am thankful for you and taking the time to make your videos. It gives me an escape in my day and sometimes a good laugh! 🥰
Hi , pretty sure the rolls didn't rise because there was too much rushing and things didn't quite get done as were directed...Dan going on and on about 'I wanna do something ' over and over, and Lou getting fed up and tring her best to follow directions, but with so much banter going on.... It was something else to watch for sure 😊. Thanks for sharing, I haven't missed any of your cooking videos. Take care and God bless 🙏 ❤️
Lou, the reason your rolls didn't rise is because you added the yeast mixture to the HOT water and butter mixture. Yeast will not BLOOM in hot or cold water. It must be luke warm. Like put the water in the microwave for 30 seconds and that is the perfect temp. It is also important to let the dough "rise" for at least 1 hour right after mixing it. You went directly to making the rolls. Dan is so impatient in the kitchen. He drives me crazy. You are the best.
Dan, please let Lou finish telling us her story about going to work for a different School District and please, please stop interrupting the poor woman!🤣
Lou, you did fine on the rolls. You followed instructions. The yeast has to be in warm water of 110 degrees that's a must. You just had to many hands in the dough and it got over worked a bit but other than that the rising was the problem nothing else. I take frozen rolls and preheat my oven to 200˚F. THEN TURN OFF OVEN OFF. I put rolls in the oven and let them rise until double in size. WATCH CAREFULLY and do not let over rise. So you could do something like that However, you just needed a warmer spot and rising can take up to hours. You can use a towel.. or spray lightly saran wrap and put that over the rolls till they rise. You got this, make another batch. Make a batch when he is gone and then let him make a batch using the same recipe by himself. You showed him how to do the yeast rolls so he has it. Its not a competition guys its a family dinner.
You two are very entertaining! Dan interrupts Lou quite a bit. He is like an over stimulated little kid, lol. Keep the videos coming! From Canadice, NY😊
Dan was Lou’s biggest problem, he played with the dough and rolled it up, patted it like a biscuit. He was the biggest cause of the density, he completely took the air out. You are the reason Dan! Stop rushing her like a small child. Put Dan outside and they will rise Lou. 🤣🤣. The flavor was good because you stopped him from putting extra things in it like the salt 🧂. Anyways, Happy Thanksgiving!🦃 🍽 🥖🧈. I am Thankful for you guys, you are entertaining and for your two children (you guys made together) Brianne and Jacob. Thanks for the story about how you went to work, so, your children ❤ could go to a better school. You are a wonderful example of a loving Mom. ☮️❤️🙏
HAPPY THANKSGIVING Dan, Lou and family. ❤🙏❤️ Dan, you need to learn patience. As you know, it is a virtue.😂❤😊 It could have been the yeast itself. Sometimes it happens and there's nothing you could do about it.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOURS,and all the Morrows ,may you enjoy every minute of your day…love and blessings from the UK…I personally am extremely thankful for being allowed to share the Morrow family lives…I love each and every one of you.💕💕
OMG! Thanks for the laughs with this one. Lu is like a mom trying to calm or correct her over zealous child 😂. Love you two, never change. We're thankful for you too 😊 Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving ❤️
Good day I like watching y’all. I’m 72 and was married twice and cooked at least two times a day if not three for at least 50 years. I wanted to tell you a really good tip that will help y’all tremendously. You need to read a recipe three separate times before you make it. You will be surprised how much easier it will go for you sometimes when you read a recipe just once you don’t read it correctly, I know by experience. So maybe try this on your next cooking episode. Love the Thanksgiving video at Kim’s. Have a blessed weekend.
When I use to make bread, I would put my dough over a bowl of hot water (hot from the tap, not boiling hot) and cover it with a towel like cheesecloth. The warmth from the water helps the dough rise.
Years ago, I used to make my own bread and rolls. There were a few mistakes but the recipe itself was fine. Use only warm water with the yeast. Hot will kill it and cold won’t activate it. Mix on slow speed only. And don’t handle it as much as you did. I always let mine rise twice. Once in the bowl and then punched it down and then made the round balls. I would cover the dough with a cloth each time it needed to rise. But even when you do everything exactly right, sometimes it just doesn’t work. The yeast could be too old or the kitchen might have been too cold. I preferred using recipes that didn’t require yeast. Less chance of failure that way. - Sue Sweeten in sunny AZ
Dan!!! I am a 72 year old woman and I carried 2 20 pound turkeys from my detached garage up the deck steps, and into the fridge. Then I put them one at a time in the oven. Don't whine.
I'm sure someone has mentioned it, but just in case they haven't, HOT water will KILL the yeast. Plus, when the rolls are shaped and ready for rising, they should be covered with a clean dishtowel, and in a warm draft free area. I say this with love in my heart. I love your videos! Happy Thanksgiving, and God Bless.
Norma here. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. My goodness, Dan, we’ve all seen a stand mixer mix dough. I have a Kitchen Aid mixer which is similar. I’ve never seen a grown man so excited over a stand mixer. LOL You’re like working with my 9 year old grandson who doesn’t listen and keeps saying I want to do something. I knew Lou was going to yell at you to stop when you were raising up the sifter and making a mess. Lou, please put Dan outside while you’re cooking or baking.
my tip, for what it's worth....warm, not hot water and cover rolls with a towel while they rise. You can even turn the oven on the lowest setting, then turn it off, then put rolls in warm oven to rise.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone ! I am so thankful I discovered Ima Survivor and the Morrow family and all of your channels. I look forward to everyone's videos and watch them daily. I love how y'all are always joking around with each other and have such huge hearts. I hope everyone has a fantabulous Thanksgiving. I love you all. Thank you.
Yeast has to blossom; using warm water and let it sit until it grows in size, you usually put sugar in also to feed it. When you added it to the boiling water on the stove that kills it. It usually goes into the dry ingredients. Mix everything slowly. Pout in a greased bowl cover and let double in size in a warm area(oven set to 120°) turn off and put bowl in there. Don't open the door. Remove and pour on floured surface knead, form a round with it. Either pinch off roll size or use cutter. Put them on the greased sheet cover again with plastic wrap that's sprayed, let raise, double size, in oven. Remove plastic, bake at temp recipe calls for. Enjoy
🦃Happy Thanksgiving Dan, Lou & family 🦃. Okay guys I don't know how to say this without coming out mean or something but, you did several things wrong😱.#1: you used self-rising flour which canceled out your rise from the get-go. Self-rising flour has salt in it and salt kills yeast. The salt is only added at the end of the process which gives the yeast and the sugar time to proof. The self-rising flour already have salt in it and then you added more salt. So you were pretty much done from the get go. #2: you killed the yeast that's why they didn't rise. When starting out you really need a thermometer. The water for the yeast should be 105 to 115. 130 and above will kill your yeast. It might have been okay but then you put in the butter and water mixture which definitely killed it. Most of the time you take the warm water the yeast and the sugar so that the sugar feeds the yeast and you mix those together. You were only supposed to melt the butter in the warm water and take it off the heat and let it cool. #3 the last one I'm not sure because I don't know your recipe but you didn't put it in the bowl and do the first rise unless you stopped the camera and came back. I don't mean to be so critical, but I really think you all should watch a video about yeast roll making or yeast bread making so you can get the technique down and then you'll be good to go👍. It really was a good first attempt and lou's process of shaping the rolls was good. But that might have been a little bit too much oil especially from Dan's hands and he was playing with the dough too much I mean really Dan🤷🏻 talk about overworking the dough🤦🏻. Just remember all purpose flour or bread flour for making yeast breads and rolls... I can only say these things because I've made these same mistakes and more over the years and still mess up stuff every now and then🤣😂😂
Adding the yeast to the boiling mixture probably killed it. Happy Thanksgiving y'all! Thank you for sharing your life with us. Have a good one and may your days be blessed
