The MSR Pocket Rocket 2 could literally be the best mini stove kit for cooking with on trail on the market to date! It's tiny, powerful and lightweight and is perfect for any thru-hiker's kit list.
BUY IT HERE:
Stove - MSR Pocket Rocket 2 Stove
amzn.to/2SPNO9w
Fuel - MSR Butane/Propane bottle
amzn.to/2SRzuwX
In this video, I'm going to be cooking with the MSR Pocket Rocket 2, showing you how to use it and giving it a good review too!
This stove also folds up along with the gas bottle into its own titanium vessel!
I’ll upload a more detailed review in the near future after I've put more miles on it, for now, I’ll just show you how it works along with the dehydrated meals I got and what I think.
These dehydrated meals came from Cotswold Outdoor for about 5 quid a pop so not cheap but not too deer either. They’re Adventure Food Expedition Quality ones.
This is the Pasta Carbonara one, I tried this and the curry one which was actually pretty horrible, but the mushroom one was actually really nice.
Kit list:
MSR Pocket Rocket 2

So I've never actually left a comment or review on anything in my life, but really felt moved to after watching the video. Keep up the great work. Shots, Edit, Intro clips, music, commentary, I love it all. Much better than any outdoor channel I've ever watched. You well deserve more views and likes. Very professional, very well done. I really enjoy seeing people's setups and gear and this just set the bar very high for the quality I enjoy in these types of videos.

Hunter White ahh thank so much for the kind words and I’m glad you’re enjoying my content. It’s been a really cool year for this channel and my viewers so it really means a lot when I receive messages like this one. Stay tuned for more and for my 2,665 mile hike of the Pacific Crest Trail next year. Hope your festive season has been good and happy new year!

Hi, thanks for watching! It came as a set like this one: amzn.to/2CDhxYY but I don't know where to buy the components separately. Just tried searching for the accessories without the stove. Maybe contact MSR directly. Thanks again. Russ

Great review. Thank you. Do you use a windshield? I am moving to the idea of using a duel fuel set up eg triangia alcohol burner with either a lixada folding woodstove as a pot holder or the a vargo hexagon wood burner as a pot holder. A light weight windshield is probably needed for both set ups. (You can get a much cheaper steel version of the hexagonal wood stove online from China). Just trying to get something simple and light which doesn't see me rely on one fuel which might run out eg alcohol or gas. But the pocket rocket seems to work ok for you even for the longer hikes? I guess if you're just cooking once a day then the gas cannister will last a long time. Thank you for all the hard work on your channel.

Muhammad Imran hi Muhammad. Thanks for the kind words. I have a foam sit pad which I also use as a windsheild and works well, just gotta hold it up. And yeah I only use the stove twice a day to boil water and a small bottle of gas will last for at least a week or two. 👍 hope that answers your question.!

I prefer to go into shops too, but it's a bit of a drive to the nearest outdoors stop and they don't have the widest selection. Hiking and camping isn't too popular in Kansas, USA! Then, with the closures due to COVID it's been even harder. So, thanks for this walk-through how-to video!

I prefer Real Turmat myself but it works the same. My suggestion: after adding water, seal the bag well and then shake the bag for a few seconds. Leave it closed for as long as instructed to soak and then open the bag and stir a little with fork or spoon.

was wondering where you got your flint lighter from? or if you would recommend any, thanks:)
@thetrailhunter4469
@thetrailhunter4469 3 года назад
Hi Hayley. I think I got that off Amazon for about 2 quid. Really good and more reliable than a lighter, and you can easily use them with thick gloves on. Only issue is, they’re not easy to come by should you lose one on trail. I kept loosing mine and have stuck to a brightly coloured Clipper lighter instead. I’d say any flint lighter is good, they all seem to work just the same. 👍

I'm wondering whether the TSA people will confiscate my Pocket Rocket 2 at the airport. I want to fly to my hiking destination and I worry that something like the Pocket Rocket will look like a suspicious metal object to a non-hiker (most TSA employees). Anyone have ideas or advice? I am aware that the fuel can will have to be purchased at the hike destination.

The pocket rocket is an awesome stove. I’ve had one for about 6-7 yrs but I’ve since switched to an alcohol stove for the last year. I always keep the pocket rocket for when alcohol isn’t feasible since it’s so reliable.
@thetrailhunter4469
@thetrailhunter4469 5 лет назад
Jason Helmandollar thanks Jason. Yeah, I’m kinda wishing I brought my alcohol stove with me to Indonesia as it’s proving difficult to buy a gas bottle for it. I’ll let you all know if I find one and where.

Excellent review. I now have the same stove. Does anyone have a problem with the MSR canister hissing on attaching and removal of the pocket rocket? I keep the canister upright, but no matter how careful I am, it still hisses (leaks) on fitting!

It's the moment between the stove pushing open the valve to the gas canister, and the stove sealing on the canister. It's common, I've had the same on two different types of stove.
@maxbojdo9141

Kinda late, but make sure your valve to adjust the temp is all the way to the left, it still lets a tiny bit of gas out even when it’s technically off

I am also not sure about the claim that the pot needs to heat the water and not the flame. Especially if it’s titanium which is a very poor material to transmit heat the point is to have them thin so the heat comes directly from the flame. They heat up quick but also loose their heat quick.
