I'm 71 years old now. Farm was sold when I was 12. I ended up in the Marines after high school and then a Phoenix Police officer gor 28 years. I still have the good memories of my childhood on the farm.

I went back to the farm July 2019. The farmhouse is gone along with the barn and other farm buildings. New homes have taken over the 80 acres my parents owned a long time ago. It was a little sad. Time marches on. I was blessed with 5 children and 9 grandkids. Expensive at Christmas time

Thanks BTP . Get tired of see so much mega equipment running, when out in the country whole lot more smaller operations.I use a John Deere 34 , cut and throw type, one row lol. I'm in southeast ky. My wagons are John Deere 125 s chuck wagons. Only chop about 12 acres for small beef herd. Take pride in keeping my old stuff moving. Our first day chopping with it was on 9-11- 01. A day we never forget. Almost 20yrs ago.

From what I've seen around here, the guys with all the new green or red paint are farming for payments and the boys with the older tractors etc running the same # of cattle are the ones making money. I tell my kids anyone can go buy something - a smart businessman makes it happen with what he has.

@@Boodlemania Yes sir...The mama cows keep my brother and I afloat..There is a whole bunch of 30-40 year old farmers that tore out their Grandfathers fences and hedge rows and farming pastures that were in grass for a reason..I tell them all the time sell that grain in the fall, storage isnt working well last 3 years..Park them semis and go buy 50-100 bred cows so you have something to do in the winter...

We still use a 5830 with a 4/30 head and 7 ft pickup. We mounted a Rotary screen from a 1460 IH combine on the radiator to keep things cool. Pulling a Gehl side dump wagon to open fields would plug the factory screen in less than one load, Wasn't as bad when side filling trucks but would still need to stop every hour just to clean the rad and cool the engine down. Replaced a 802 Uni with the767 supper chopper on it and a 1200 Gehl pull type both with 3/30 heads and the Deere can do more in a day than both of them together could.
@bigtractorpower

I think this 5830 is imported from Europe, because it have euro-style white front lights/amber turnsignals In same housing (american have round amber turnsignals/transport warning lights) and that 25km/h speed limit badge on rear. I think it can't go 25mph 😄

rain after planting if they tilled the soil..it washes away causes gulleys ditches..we have planted alfalfa and on some feilds..we would get lucky and light rain..one field we planted got 17 inches we had to go in and fill in ditches and use round bales of hay to stop further washing...one field we planted was so smooth you could drive across in a pickup going 60mph..luck on rain amounts

There was one of them not far from here. It was a realy bad Machine, always suffering of Major Problems. In the begining it hasn't a Metal Detector, a broken Teeth of the Tedder was a Nightmaire. In Grass it was realy realy bad, the Augher couldnt handle it. In Corn it was a little better. The Engine was often heating up, wat a John Deere never apriciated. The Augher had lots of waer and tear.
