“Don’t you love her Madly”! “Riders on the Storm!” “Light My Fire” “Break on Through to the Other Side” Other excellent songs!! Jim Morrison amazing singer!
This song reminds me of the 80’s movie, The Lost Boys. It was featured prominently in the movie/soundtrack. I went through SUCH a hardcore Doors phase in high school, and college. Still have a huge appreciation for their music.
Most of the music on the sound track are covers. My fav. Is Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me( (orig. by Elton John) but sung by Roger Daltry of The Who.
Lost Boys.... That whole soundtrack is awesome. Y'all should give it a watch sometime , it will not disappoint. "How are the worms Michael. " say hello to the night...muahaha.
Don't forget that Ray Manzarek -- the keyboardist -- was also playing the bass line. There was NO bass player in the Doors. The Doors turned my world upside down when they burst on the scene in 1967. This was their second album. I first heard this in September of that year, and had just turned 15. Their first album ("The Doors"), released in January of 1967, remains one of the greatest rock albums ever created. I had NEVER heard anything like this music. Don't forget that this amazing album was released just ONE MONTH after the first album of Jimi Hendrix ("Are You Experienced"). 1967 was a simply amazing year for anyone who loves rock and roll. I turn 70 this year, and every song from this album still gives me goose bumps. What awesome music this was.
@@jasonbone5121 It ain't and no one likes alliteration. Alliteration is a one trick pony that is grating, boring and insulting to the ears. Alliteration is what kids in high school use to seem sophisticated. limbs lite lush or lucid unless now dense dust down there distorted time trauma taken my friend is devoured in blood layers look like flourish my friend
My favorite version of Riders on the Storm is off Jim Morrison's American Prayer, it plays in the background as Jim Morrison is making a phone call and is taking about how he just killed someone
The late organ player Ray Manzarek of The Doors deserves recognition for his sound in the band. Robbie Krieger (guitar) & John Densmore (drums) were the original band w/ Jim Morrison (vocals)
I knew them all (well, not Jim though) when they played at the Starwood nightclub,in LA.They played there a few times, and were all nice guys. They were under the name "The Butts Band". John Densmore was especially nice to me. Whenever he came into the club and saw me,he told me to come upstairs for a drink when I got time. I usually did. And no,I wasnt a groupie or anything like that. I cleaned the dressing rooms every night, plus I ran the coat check.
Back in the '30's through WWII, Ray Manzarek's folks owned the general store in my one-stoplight hometown of Ingleside (Fox Lake), Illinois, where he grew up.He definetly gained "Favorite Son" status...
I once was standing in line in a store behind Ray Manzarek (Doors keyboardist) and I didn’t realize I was staring but he turned around and he gave me a huge stare with his eyes exaggeratedly large. We’re about the same height. I started laughing. He started laughing and we had a pleasant conversation that had nothing to do with music. I always remember that funny face he made when I hear Doors songs, especially this one. I’m sure his soul is somewhere making magic music.
Yeah, Val was so good in that movie. I saw the doc about him recently and it focused a bit on that role. He got fanatically immersed in it and stayed in character so much that his wife couldn’t handle it and bailed on him.
Janis famously drank Southern Comfort, and the bottle she smacked Jim with was a SC bottle. Beyond that, I think you should listen to "Peace Frog" by The Doors -- crazy title, but a killer track.
Janis and Jim unfortunately became 2 of the chartered members of the 27 club.. Musicians who passed away at the age of 27. Includes Jimi Hendrix and Amy Winehouse too.
This what the first song I ever heard from them…on one of my brothers skateboarding VHS’s….fell in love with them ever since. Please react to “Touch Me” one of my favorites from The Doors and “Riders On The Storm”
Love The Doors. Riders On the Storm, Love Her Madly, Waiting for the Sun, LA Woman, Moonlight Drive, Strange Days, Crystal Ship etc, are all great. Too many to list really. You can't go wrong with The Doors. Go down that rabbit hole!! RIP Jim and Ray.
If you haven't already heard "Light My Fire" and "Riders on the Storm", you should check those out. Both are absolutely necessary songs for anyone with an interest in The Doors.
Jim Morrison and The Doors were the perfect Band from the late sixties (1967) and were like no other Band. They could play Blues, Hard Rock, Ballads, you name it.
I’m 70 years old and I still have a poster of Jim Morrison on my wall! Love the Doors and your great reaction ☮️❤️🌻👵🏼 I believe Janis drank Southern Comfort 😂
Loved everything the Doors did especially Light My Fire. Some of the musical geniuses we had in the 60s and 70s left this world far too soon….Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin etc etc. They definitely left their marks.
Touch Me by The Doors, that's the one that you have to check out. That is like Jim Morrison doing Frank Sinatra. Great big band sound and great sax solo!
Doors are amazing. Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin such a great story. Unfortunately, both members of the 27 year club. Too many great artists on that list.
You’ve grasped the circus concept accurately. The Doors have been described as a midnight circus in the graveyard. In a very good way of course. They have a dark side to be sure.
Jay, you were right when you said that you got a circus feel from this song. It's from Strange Days, whose cover depicts a group of circus performers. Other great songs from this album are the title track, Love Me Two Times, Moonlight Drive and the 11 minute finale When the Music's Over. But first you've just gotta hear Riders on the Storm. An iconic song, and the rainfall effects of Ray Manzarek's organ are truly magnificent!!
My favourite Doors song. I remember watching Lost Boys, hearing the Echo and the Bunnymen cover of this and loving it. I then found out that it was a cover of a Doors song and my sister owned a best of album. I borrowed it and the rest is history. I'm 43 and I've loved the Doors for over 30 years, despite Morrison having died years before I was born. They are truly timeless. If the Doors releases their music now as a new band they would still sound fresh and relevant. They never sounded like a 60s band compared to who and what else was around at that time.
The Doors were part of the "California Sound" bands. A perfect song for you guys is "Riders on the Storm" with your headphones on. Just close your eyes and let it carry you away!
As I am listening to this song I am wrapped up in my Doors quilt that my son had made for me with many of my husbands concert tee shirts. He idolized this band and he use to say he was Jim reincarnated. Well he is now rockin with Jim and Ray in Rock n Roll Heaven. Awesome reaction guys! You guys Rock
"Light My Fire" put them on the map in 1967--a seven-minute masterpiece that needs to be your next Doors reaction. "Touch Me" is another of their classics and has a Vegas vibe with plenty of horns.
The Doors were definitely unique, even for the 60's. The sounds you are talking about were made by Ray Manzarek on Keyboards. Robby Krieger on Guitar, John Densmore on drums. Try their first ever single next: Break On Through (To the Other Side)
You HAVE to add "Riders On the Storm" to your list! Maybe my favorite Doors song. Hard to pick a favorite. Years ago, Val Kilmer played Jim Morrison in a movie about him.
The Lizard King strikes again, The Doors have so much amazing music to offer, I hope you will listen to their most haunting and brooding song The End, the percussion arrangement is insane, and Jim Morrison's awe inspired vocals will leave you shook. Thank you both for making me and my family smile every day. God bless you and your lovely family.....mission accomplished for the day !!😁 Peace & Love your friendly neighbor to the north ...🙏❤
I love that you are getting into The Doors. They will always be my favorite band. Their sound, Jim’s lyrics, just everything. There’s a live version of “Love Me Two Times” performed in Europe in 1968 that is a must view for a real diehard like myself. Also “When the Musics Over” performed live at the Hollywood Bowl. Two great live performances, and Jim is so great vocally and of course, he looks so awesome!
I loved these guys in high school in the ‘80s. It is a very specific sound, partially thanks to Ray Manzarek’s keyboard work. They didn’t that a bass player; he played the entire bass line on a piano keyboard bass. Morrison, of course wrote most of the lyrics (he didn’t write Light My Fire, for example). So many good songs. Try Crystal Ship or Roadhouse Blues, two very different types of songs.
I agree. Besides Jim Morrison’s voice, Ray Manzarek had much to do with their unique sound. And I also was really into the Doors during high school in the 80’s!
I always think of Morrison and the Doors as the quintessential "surrealist" band. I like your observation about the juxtaposition of the "circus" vibe of the instrumentation contrasted against Jim's dark and haunting vocals. In this song that contrast is what adds to the surrealistic vibe. To me, listening to the Doors is kinda like viewing Salvador Dali paintings. Only darker. LOL Great reaction, guys!
The Doors are truly a legendary rock band who are still selling albums even now. You might also want to check out: "Light my Fire", "Touch Me" and "Spanish Caravan". Unbelievably good music!
A version of this a little faster pace was used in the movie The Lost Boys.It was sung by Echo and the bunnymen.I know this is the origional version but the remake to me picked up the pace
Can't wait to see more of your reactions to The Doors! I also recommend you guys react to The Doors biopic movie starring Val Kilmer - It's a real trip and it'll make you wanna do more research into Jim Morrison.
The Doors were appreciated by people who were strange, outcast, intelligent, shy, or just plain odd. The Doors music does carry a touch of the carnival sound with Ray Manzarek's cadence and awkward step. Robbed Kreiger's guitar slithers up and down to invite you closer. John Densmore follows along the jaunty trail while supporting his band mates. But Jim Morrison led the march into his endarkened world of secret alphabets and lost, sometimes frightening or uncomfortable territory. Jim's voice and personality navigates a minefield of beautifully described chaos and broken love scattered like gold dust over fever dreams. His voice the only guidance and security needed to descend deeper and deeper into the subconscious. Music by the Doors open dangerous visions for others to document and explore. We are better for Jim's willing commitment to document his postcards from the edge. His next report of weird scenes should be very interesting. In the meantime, how about the longer version of LOVE ME TWO TIMES from the SOUNDSTAGE PERFORMANCES. It has a poetic intro worth noting.
The Doors were one of the very few bands that truly explored the darker segments of 60s pop culture. "People Are Strange" dipped into that, but it didn't really explore that part of it like "The End", "When The Music's Over", "Not To Touch The Earth", "Peace Frog" and others did. This band is definitely worth a deep dive.
"Riders On The Storm" was my first introduction to the Doors. Brilliant track. My school made us all sit in the hall on the last day of term to watch an overly long and dull war film. This must have been about 1974. At the end of the film, as everyone was finally allowed to leave, they played this song. For years I thought it was part of the soundtrack of that dreadful film. I was very glad to finally discover that it wasn't! [BTW the film was "The Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse" (1962) - a relationship heavy, dialogue driven film. Not what an 11 year old me was expecting from a war film].
Jay/Amber, his "LA Woman" and "Break On Through" are next for you! Nice transitions in his iconic LA Woman. Break On Through is a banger!. vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, drummer John Densmore.
Yes, great song, Sounds right out of a carnival in the Twilight Zone! For all encompassing musical trips, try their epics, When the Music's Over and The End, do the video for sure for The End to get that Vietnam era vibe. The Doors are a trip, they were part of many trips in the old days... Enjoy! 🎸
Such an amazing and legendary band! So many all-time classics and their songs were very different. You can always hear their "signature" but the songs were very different.
OTHER GREAT SONGS BY THE DOORS: - BREAK ON THROUGH (TO THE OTHER SIDE): First song on their first album. High-energy and is pretty much the mission statement of the Doors. - LA WOMAN: It's more of that bluesy sound you liked from the Doors on "Roadhouse Blues." - NOT TO TOUCH THE EARTH: The Doors letting that freak flag fly with a crazy/great song springing from a longer piece of Jim Morrison's poetry. One of my favorites and where Morrison's infamous nickname "the Lizard King" comes from. - THE CRYSTAL SHIP: Gorgeous, poetic, strangely delicate song from the Doors. - THE END: If you want to dive into the deep end of the Doors experience, this song is objectively their masterpiece. Knowing how much you like to be transported by songs, Amber, I'll tell you that this is one of those songs. It's not the spacy vibe of a Pink Floyd track but more of an eastern-tinged, poetic, deeply psychological music experience that def takes you along for the ride/vibe. All the Doors songs are different than what other people were doing but this one... this one is more than just a song. It's a piece of art. You should def check out the Doors performing live as well. You really get the vibe and see the stage presence. I sometimes forget how many amazing songs/ artists were literally everywhere when I was a teenager. I think it was the golden age of music in the 20th century.
I love seeing younger people responding to music that I know and love. I was amazed at your videos when you would say you had no idea who they were. I couldn’t believe it. LA Woman is my favorite Doors song
Rob Squad Lady,I absolutely love the expressions on your face, you look like you're really getting into it and digging the music. This is a great song.Lots of love from N.Z.
The Circus Sound you hear is because it’s written in a minor modality. Most songs are in a major key. You can tell he fully understands the message with his inflections and finesse of his chosen vocal style. This is clearly an example of “less is more”!
'The Soft Parade' is my favorite at the moment. It is built like no other song. I have loved the Doors since my high school days and my favorite song changes with my mood.
Spanish Caravan is amazing and different esp for the time. And Jose Feliciano’s version of ‘light my fire’ is absolutely fantastic!!! Love the Doors!!!
The Doors have gone in many directions, but the one song you MUST listen to is Riders on the Storm. One of the most beautiful songs you’ll ever hear. Such a gem.
"The Crystal Ship" is a must! A completely different side to them! And Robbie Krieger's guitar solos always reminded me of a cat,how he could make it meow. Especially in this guitar solo. Everything about The Doors is unique.
I spin the 45 of "People Are Strange" at a few festivals, always gets a good response, as do “Riders on the Storm!” & “Light My Fire" & "Break On Through (to the other side) ", one of may favourite Door's tracks.
"The End" of Doors IS a must listening ! That's an apocalyptic poem ! Jim's lyric was at its best ! The song itself is a "Pound, Shilling, Pence" (LSD)
Another vote for Peace Frog, it’s such a great song. Fall of ‘21 the remaining 2 Doors released a short documentary and their Hollywood Bowl concert from ‘69, it was shown one night only in theaters, Nov 4th. It was fabulous and I hope to be able to see it again sometime
I became a Doors fan because I heard this song on LOST BOYS as a kid. I didn't even know for years that it was a cover.... I'm just glad it lead me to The Doors Ftr it is a fantastic cover.
I love these spots it gives us a golden opportunity to hear these songs again and realise how up-to-date they all still are. They were generations ahead of their time. Check the ones out with Zappa.
'Love Street', 'Love Her Madly', 'Peace Frog' and if you want to hear just how diverse they could be, taking in jazz and rock, try the song 'The Soft Parade'
Never been a Doors fan, BUT ……… when I was a kid I would listen to them every Christmas. Turn on the twinkling x-mas lights on the tree, turn off all the other lights, lay down under the tree and stare up at the reflection on the ceiling. Turn on the Doors, and watch the twinkling pattern of the lights come into sync with the music and veg out. Works with almost any of their songs, especially Crystal Ships. I wore out my 45’s ! 😂
