Give this man his flowers 💐 after worrying for two years in the Phoenix AZ heat why my 05 Durango would heat up while in park or idling then get back to normal when driving again … I saw this video and realized why I always had to keep topping off my coolant it was evaporating through my old rusty radiator cap … went to Auto Zone for a 20 PSI cap for $8.20 and put it on and it’s 115 degrees in Phoenix today and I ran the Durango to normal temp drove around for 15 mins then sat in park for 25 mins while the sun was beating down and the temperature gauge stayed right in the middle the whole time! My wife and I are super excited to have good people like you teaching us these things and saving us a lot of money! God Bless you and your family thank you! Just subscribed and gave this a like 😎
Bro thank you so much for your help I had the same problem as the Durango, my ram was heating up when I would idle for about an hour but as soon as I started driving it would go down, I changed out the water pump and did a flush on the radiator and still had the problem until I saw this video
I have a mystery leak that isn't noticable on the ground or in the engine bay. Over about a month, I lose the entire contents of the overflow. It has never overheated, thankfully. I was squeezing the the big hose on the right and could literally hear the cap breathing in and out and finally created a noticeable drip. This vid help a TON! Thank you!
O.M.G! My trusty 2000 Honda CR-V (‘Anna Honda’) started to overheat yesterday, for the first time ever 😢. Being over 50 and disabled makes this especially sucky. I started watching videos hoping I could figure out the prob, and fix it myself. This video reminded me of getting my oil changed a month ago. I wasn’t really listening to the chatty service guy, (big mistake!), now I clearly remember him saying that my radiator cap was shot, and he didn’t have an ‘exact match’ to replace it, but he could ‘make it work’. Yep. My bad! Sooooo, I’m guessing (hoping, praying) that this is what caused the problem. Great video though! Very nice speaking voice, straight to the point, clear, concise, no BS introductory (that nobody wants to watch), and no annoying music (why on Earth do people ruin videos with that!). You have a very interesting repertoire of videos that will no doubt come in handy, so, new subscriber, thanks!
You're welcome, glad to help. And thank you for your kind words and for subscribing. So if he was right I would replace that radiator cap with a new OEM part from Honda Dealer. Shouldnt be but maybe $20 or so. Hope that fixes problem, and keep a close eye on temperature gauge. Could be a lot of things causing overheating issue. But start with that cap 👍
You don't know how many videos I have watched trying to get this radiator cap off and it didn't work. Yours wasn't even specifically on that topic and you taught me so thank you 😭😭 -A girl who isn't great with cars
This is what I needed… seriously thank you this scared me a lot but I feel better finding the possible causes. I have no coolant in the reservoir and explained so much then what I could had google. Thank you
@@JonnyDIY I have not yet, it snowed here in Washington state. My engine has been overheating recently and I discover I got coolant in the radiator but not in the reservoir. With these clues you have explained in the videos it should help me find the solution to my problem.
Going to try this. 05 300c. Not overheating. Reservoir goes below low line. Fill it and drive and it goes back down? No smoke from exhaust. Oil smells ok. I do smell it when I start the car on the outside by drivers door. Don't see any leaks. And i park on grass. Going to try a new cap. If it don't work will stick cardboard underneath. Also will check the oil cap for moisture. Thanks for all the great tips. Excellent video. Wish me luck.🤞
Another great tool to invest in is a radiator pressure tester. I have a 07 FJ cruiser that had a bad radiator. I replaced the radiator, hoses, thermostat, and water pump. I made a terrible rookie mistake by clamping the upper radiator hose with gear clamps that were too big. Everything seemed fine when I turned it on and got the air out with a no spill funnel. No visible leaks, but the next day I went for an hour drive and then temp gauge starts going up. I pop the hood open, but I dont see anything. I took the car to a buddy mechanic who had a pressure tester kit and we found it was leaking through the hose with the oversized clamps. Apparently the pressure put on the cooling system isn't great enough when you sit in the driveway. I bought a kit and always use it when working on the cooling system.
Thank you, yeah that sounds like a good investment. Help double check cooling system for air leaks and bad radiators. Glad you caught it before causing any damage 👍🏻
Need help question did pressure test by mechanic everywhere good no leak heater core good no whole in in resubmit spark plugs good no head gasket leak no over heating
Thanks man, my Mazda 3, 2007, was slightly overheating after getting home from work. I looked under the car to check for leaks and seen coolant all over the passenger inside wheel and inside the bumper(like it was leaking and the wheel was spraying it everywhere). I seen my reservoir tank practically empty and put in coolant. I went for a test drive in the neighborhood and got back to a large leak under the vehicle. Jacked it up and wiped all the leakage and it decided to not leak anymore. So, after watching this I'm going to replace the radiator and the water pump as well as any coolant lines that need to be replaced(233,000 miles so why not?). Didn't think of the water pump until watching this so thank you for that.
Lol yeah, I always pick a box of those up every time I'm there. Ohh and of course use a coupon for one of those blue flashlights. I must have 10 of those things haha 😂
Well explained. My Ford Mondeo 2010 Diesel, recently loosing coolent without visible leak and sometime engine overheats and stalls. Still don't know what's wrong with it.
Hmm it could be the cap or worst the engine could be burning the coolant from some sort of leak like headgasket. Can do easy test where you check radiator fluid for exhaust gases. You may also notice sweet smell out tailpipe of coolant burning
Hi Just this morning when I tried to double check the color of my coolant but unfortunately the cotton I put at the tip of the stick fell inside. What’s the impact of that cotton ball? It’s just small though
Hi Johnny, thanks for the video. I got a new radiator cap but the threading where it mounts on my 2000 Camry broke away a little and the cap won't fully lock. Do you know if there's a way to fix the threading so I don't have to get a new radiator?
You're welcome, glad to help. If it's still holding the pressure I would just leave it alone. If it isn't you're going to most likely need new radiator if that neck is damaged too much
Hi I misplaced my cap a couple weeks ago and I drove for an hour and my car over heated and the other day I notice the water in my overflow reservoir was bubbling and smoke still with no cap on , would the over heating and bubbling be fixed when i Have a cap on ?
If radiator hose is either crunchy or really soft its time to replace. It means rubber is breaking down. Since that ones bad, I'd check the other ones. They may be going too
I have a problem with my peugeot 307 1.6hdi. When the car is in a working temperature, and when I'm driving uphill, or when reving the car at high numbers, the coolant is coming from the reservoir cap.😓 Maybe you know the problem, hope it's nothing serious.
Sounds like coolant is boiling. Could be a lot of things. Radiator Cap worn and not retaining pressure or overheating due to faulty thermostat, water pump, cooling fan, worn out radiator. Start simplest and go from there 👍🏻
My 2003 Impala has began to overheat and I do notice something leaking. Reservoir was empty so I filled it. A few days later, I went to add more but it was still almost full. I cannot remove the cap for the life of me. After it over heats I hear a hissing sound bu the are where the cap is..... Could it be as simple as a bad cap??????
Yes could be just the cap. Press firmly down on the cap firmly while you turn it counterclockwise to remove on cool engine. You may also want to check your water pump to see if that is the thing that is leaking coolant. Also check hoses for any cracks or leaks the hoses should be Supple but not crunchy or not really soft in certain spots. could also be thermostat getting stuck or radiator. Also check to make sure your cooling fans are working properly. and top up your radiator when it's low not just the reservoir
Johnny DIY , THANK U, on d radiator cap. One day it came off, I saw there was no gasket, so I got a new one, but I couldn't get d cap off again, I asked my "so called" FREINDS they say just twist it off!? U say Push down on it and it worked Perfectly! My friends Suck!! Lol 😂 ty very much
Checking my oil this morning and opened hood and coolant all over the place reservoir empty. Looks central at the cap. I noticed the smell for a couple of days. Should've checked it then. Didn't notice overheating yet though. Do you think it's just the cap. 2008 Nissan Rogue over 200,000 miles looks like original cap.
Start with the radiator cap, then go from there. May be a leaking somewhere else though. After the cap fill it up with water and run it in driveway and try pinpoint leak. Could be bad radiator, hose leak, water pump, thermostat
When you put the coolant into the reservoir, the black one, do you fill it all the way up to the top? Cause when I do it, it tends to leak all over my engine, not much but it doesn't damage my car or anything its just a mess. Once, it goes down and it loses coolant over time, it doesn't do it anymore.
Remove radiator cap on cool engine and top up radiator all the way. Then fill reservoir tank up to full COLD Level. Periodically check and top off as needed 👍🏻
Thanks! I talk about it in a coolant flush video I did. If leave radiator cap off and engine running it should burp any air. Put car on ramps or incline with radiator highest and will help it even more 👍
My 2.7 L tacoma has been riding great. Today I decided to try out the cruise control. It seems a little laggy with acceleration response when pushing the control up to accelerate. I get home and my temp gauge is almost all the way into the red area, coolant was popping out of my radiator cap. My scanner says “Evap system incomplete” could it be a leak in the evap system causing it to overheat? Or is that irrelevant and more likely the radiator cap or something else? Please help!!
Im thinking its radiator cap or thermostat jammed shut. They either break open or closed. Make sure fan is working too. Also make sure water pump not weeping. Usually weeps before it goes out. Check those few things. Easy to test thermostat in pot of boiling water. Always buy OEM new thermostat too
Jonny DIY thank you for the help. Luckily I have my girlfriends dad who’s practically a Toyota expert mechanic that I can take it to tomorrow. I’m going to check the water and fill it up if needed and then buy a new cap before heading to the shop. Thank your for the response and being quick with it too👊🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hello johnny I need your help My car nissan The radiator keep losing the coolant / water even if i am not driving And sometimes when i drive the red light on engine gets on meaning engine is getting hot so I stop the car wait for it to cool down then put water in radiator Then drive the car its okay red ligjt is off But after some time its gets on again when i look in the radiator it has lost a lot of water please help me out
If it leaks when youre not driving it then you just need to pinpoint leak and fix that hose or gasket. If its disappearing while driving thats a whole nother thing. Could be a multitude of problems. But would start with checking thermostat, water pump, radiator cap and lastly if head gasket blowing
So my 2008 300c hemi my coolant is boiling an I just changed the motor today an I turned on the car an went to the gas station an came back an it was boiling what you thing that is n he put green coolant I just bought red Meant for it ?
Different color coolant wouldnt do that. Boiling coolant could be a lot of things. Bad radiator cap, thermostat stuck shut, water pump going out, air in coolant system. I'd start with thermostat and check if water pump weeping. Could also be bad clogged radiator itself
Fill the reservoir to the max or min line? I'm having a leak but my car is not overheating, it is burning the leaking coolant I can smell/see the steam, but the car does not over heat.
If fluid is hot, fill to max. If engine cold, fill to Min. Try and track down why its burning the fluid, but in the mean time just keep an eye on level and keep radiator topped off so you dont have any overheating issues 👍🏻
My overflow tank is blowing the excess out instead of pushing back onto the system, so do you think my cap is bad?my overflow tank fills up consistently. And I am consistently emptying it
Hey Johnny, I know this is a old video but had a question. While I was driving, I think my coolant resevoir cap opened on its own while driving. I think coolant came out of the reservoir. Should I try replacing the radiator cap and see if that fixes it? Also, I have filled the coolant resevoir a couple times, it is always shows empty. Do you think I have a bad head gasket?
I would replace the radiator cap first and make sure you have no leaks. Head gasket it a possibility, but always start easiest place. Make sure not leaking from anywhere, sometimes only leaks when engine heated up
@@JonnyDIY I will try the radiator cap, do you think its safe to drive back home? Not sure how much coolant I lost. I am currently at work, kinda freaking out lol
Any help guys I have a Citroen c1 2007 and I’m losing coolant I add a split pipe that’s now fixed but still having the same problem I’ve checked the oil cap and oil for any milky residue there’s none but the radiator cap does have the milky residue I’ve cleaned it but still comes back any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
I had a pinhole size leak coming my plastic radiator and have had to replace the old radiator cap with a pressure release valve cap that is a matching fit. No more leaks After some coolant flushing while using some bars leak radiator repair. never had any overheating issues.
Awesome glad you got it fixed for now. May be a good idea to replace radiator if its older and has lot of miles, pinhole leak may be sign it's on way out 👍
Start your car up from cold with radiator cap off preferably on incline with engine highest point (pointed up driveway) and let run for 15-25 minutes with heater blowing on high to circulate fluid through system. Should get air out, if that is indeed your issue
2002 Toyota Tacoma 3.4 engine. Replace radiator, hoses, thermostat, fluid, and let it run as mentioned, heater on without the radiator cap to purge the system. The top radiator hose gets extremely hot even in the warm up phase to the operating temperature. The bottom radiator hose remains cool to the touch. If I let it warm up more than 5 minutes, top radiator hose it will get way to hot.Water pump and timing belt changed by dealer 15.000 miles back. Any ideas what's happening?
@@savnbest4last249 my guess is thermostat. Make sure you bought an OEM Toyota thermostat, and always test in boiling water before installing to make sure it opens and closes normally at right temperature. 2nd thing would be the location of thermostat when installed. On the 3.4L the jiggler valve needs to be at the 6 o'clock position, NOT 12 ( which is most common). I'd start there first.
I figured it out! The overflow tube from the radiator to the reservoir tank was obstructed in the middle of the hose and would not allow antifreeze to flow to or back from the reservoir. When the radiator gets hot, it will open up the radiator cap and push fluid into the reservoir and when it cools down, it will create a vacuum to draw fluid back into the radiator eliminating a vacuum lock that will collapse the top or bottom radiator hoses or both. I was also experiencing a collapsed top radiator hose when the engine cooled down. I believe the blockage allowed the engine to get hotter than it should. Everything working out and just wanted to share it with you and anyone who is curios. Thanks for your response...... Also, it can also happen with just a bad radiator cap.
Could be many things, engine will typically overheat and run hotter going up hills or under heavy load. I would start by checking thermostat, and radiator cap. Make sure coolant topped off. Also make sure cooling fans working properly. Check if water pump weeping as well. And lastly could be radiator corroded or old and clogged. They stop cooling when old and corroded inside
If you just refilled with dex recently it should be fine. Id just swap with the regular stuff next time and dont let it go long. Any time Ive have problems with Dex it's been because its been overdue 👍
Hi, I saw my radiator cap leaking some water out of the cap between the plastic part of radiator and radiator cap is that just a bad cap? No overheating no loss of coolant and it still holds pressure
hello i have a question what im loosing my coolant bone dry in the reservoir? the car does not overheat ive checked the oil its fine , no white smoke from the exhaust also the car does not over heat ? but i always lose coolant ? wat could it be ? is it a blown gasket? also if it helps my car sat for 4-5 months and it had coolant in it before i only turned on the car like 5 times between those months for 15 minutes to make sure the battery stays good but i still lost coolant ? any help
Its possible about the head gasket. I would check for leaks and then refill cooling system and keep an eye on how fast you're losing coolant. Could be as simple as bad radiator cap
My resevoir tank was nearly empty after a 40mn drive. I heard the tank cap hiss a miniute after the car was turned off. Do the resevoir tank caps wear out?
No the reservoir cap doesnt need to hold high pressure, that's the radiator caps job. I'd start with radiator cap then look at thermostat, water pump, cooling fans and of course radiator. Start with simplest 1st and keep an eye on water temp gauge and dont overheat it til you figure where coolant disappearing
@@JonnyDIY I'ma try n buy a cap tommorow...... My radiator gets empty in like a day or so..... I have no leaks under the car.....no mist, leaks,or green colant on ground after parking anywhere .....I am puzzled.......so I'ma buy a new car tommorow
Hey I got a 2013 Dodge Avenger that’s been losing coolant we’re the car starts to run hot. The coolant reservoir stay full til we’re it’s running over boiling
So I just bought a 08 g35s sedan and when I bought it it wasn’t having any issues with the temperature but my second time driving it the temperature seems to fluctuate. It’ll go hot and steam a little bit out the front and never cut off but I pulled over and let it sit for a bit then when I got home I had no coolant. I put 50/50 in and drive it down the road and back and it was completely empty again. My car is a salvage title and was wrecked in the front and the man said he replaced the radiator. From what I can see there is a small hole at the top of my reservoir so I’m not sure if it’s coming out of there. I’ve seen a lot of videos of different possibilities and I’m just not sure what it is.
If its leaking all out that fast it either has a leak which you should see idling. If not its burning coolant fast, which could be bad radiator cap, water pump, radiator, or thermostat. Worst case could be blown head gasket, which is entirely possible. Can do a radiator exhaust fume dye test to figure that out. I would start simplest. Radiator or piping could be busted since accident and not noticeable until warmed up. Lot of times no leaks til engine hot. Sorry not a definitive answer but overheating issues have a lot of different possibilities.
Jonny DIY so I just filled it up with water and I noticed one of the hoses was lose and I put it back on and it’s no longer having issues but I’m gonna try it for a couple days and see how it goes
I replaced my waterpump and coolant 2 times in the last 10 months. And today again I lost all coolant and giant puddle underneath car.I took it to mechanic today and he said you need to replace radiator and radiator cap.I think my radiator is fine though.I don't see any cracks and passenger side heat us working fine.Sometimes when I start car in the morning I hear liquid sloshing repeatedly.I have no idea whats going on.I touch hoses and they r not clogged.
2011Toyota Corolla spits and sputters rough idles , but not all the time comes and goes. Replaced Spark plugs , replaced coils , Check fuel pump fixing to replace 02sensors. Tonight on way home from work it Overheated so the says impossible wasn't drove more then 7 mins as it read thatIstoppedthe vehicle got out and felt pressure cap was Cold reservoir was low tho.filled it up drove it home no problems overheating. Sluggish to climb hill still goes in limp mode.Could theses be a bad fuel in injector symptoms. ?
Possible injectors are clogged. Id check fuel pressure and get a scan tool on it and read it. Maybe clogged fuel filter? Rare but does happen. Maf sensor? May be worth to pay diagnoses fee to a good independent Toyota mechanic then do work yourself. Dont want to just keep throwing parts at it. It adds up quick
@@Patches700 replace the wires too? Try swapping coil from another cylinder onto #1 see if it jumps to it misfiring. Possibly bad coil even though you replaced, depending quality of part
Is a lack of radiator fluid circulation due to a bad radiator cap. I have had the same level of radiator coolant I have had the same radiator level coolant for a few months now. I have no engine heating issues let the radiator cap is stuck on the radiator and I don't want to try to force it off is there a way around this
Rafiator fluid generally doesn't go down much unless you have a leak or engine burning coolant. But the stuck on cap concerns me, Id spray wd40 around bottom of cap and let soak then get some big pliers on it and remove it
If the car is pretty old and you have never replaced the radiator, its probably that. They start to corrode a lot when they get older especially if you ran water instead of coolant
Hey. Idk anybody else has asked this yet, but I noticed my coolant level drop slightly. And so I refilled thinking huh that's strange. But then I got curious and saw that it could be something simple like the cap not hold pressure and allowing the coolant level to drop w evaporation. Now, I noticed this and went to pick up a replacement and saw that my old cap had an entire rubber piece missing from the radiator cap. Is it possible that the coolant system has a filter to draw this rubber seal out? What should I do?
The rubber grommet/gasket has to be inside the radiator...and I can't seem to finger it out from the top, and no way to do it thru the drain plug due to its size. Does the rubber have any chance of surviving the high coolant temperatures 🌡️
Glad you caught it was the cap. Chances are small bits of it came off and fell in there. You could remove lower radiator hose and flush radiator with a garden hose to try and clean it out and would be good thing anyways if been few years.
@@JonnyDIY I looked it up and it sounds like the thermostat. Here are the issues It's a Chevy Malibu 2012 ltz When I put coolant in the tank it won't stay full after I drive it the coolant runs out fast, but I didn't notice a leak from the car. My car smokes and is overheating. Not a heavy smoke, but it's visible.
@@JonnyDIY from the recovery tank, changed the radiator cap and thermostat, found out the fans are only turning on when the ac is on, I jumped the fans and they work along with the relay and I changed the fan switch sensor and still isn’t working
@@aidenmiller5396 I would start with the radiator temperature sensor, located on radiator tells fans when to kick on and off. Fan relay and Fan Fuse check. Almost always one of those 3 since you know the fans still working.
Just the radiator cap needs to hold pressure, not the overflow tank cap. That is unless you have a vehicle that doesnt have both, but instead just the overflow cap. Then that one would need to hold pressure. But those aren't as common
@@JonnyDIY + Oh okay I see now, thanks a lot bro’ cuz I got a 2015 Chevy Cruze ‘ and it keeps over heating ‘ and i just put a new water pump in there and had the car checked’ and a week later it started back over Heating’ so I’m thinking it could be something minor
hey, just had a question for anyone more knowledgeable than me. was driving home last night after work and temp gauge in the car was on H, engine bay was steaming, car turned on check engine light and went into limp mode so I made it home and let the heat dissipate by opening the hood. there was green coolant splashed everywhere, but no coolant leaking on the ground. would this just be caused by a bad radiator cap? I inspected my hoses in the engine bay and all seemed well...
Yes possibly, overheating can be caused by many things. Worn out or leaking radiator, bad radiator cap, bad cooling fans, water pump, thermostat or worst leaking headgasket. Its a matter of process of elimination, easiest starting with testing radiator, cap and thermostat
@@JonnyDIY thanks, I don't think it has anything to do w/ the radiator as there was no pool of green liquid under my front bumper where the radiator is located on my car. checked under my oil cap as well and no frothy white substance, so I think headgaskets are fine too. would I be able to fill it with just a gallon of antifreeze/coolant (despite my car needing two gallons) just to drive to the mechanic shop 10min away so they can pinpoint the issue?
@@KryptonLP5 I've used before, but I wouldn't use until you've diagnosed it as a headgasket leak. If it does end up being it, its best to remove thermostat while you run the sealant. If it's radiator related, its best to just replace it than use a sealant
How about the reservoir level being a bit over max and radiator getting low over time? I add coolant to radiator to top it off and later see the internal part of the radiator?
@@JonnyDIY oh ok im looking at the cap and the hose that goes to the reservoir tank having white powder of dried coolant on the top of the cap. And the other end of the hose the runs to the radiator cap has buildup of coolant under the radiator cap too.
I recently jus got my radiator fan fixed because it was broke and causing my car to overheat. I filled the reservoir with coolant and I started driving and temperature gauge was going up and down, but not to the point where my car was over heating. But it was still going too far up. So I popped the hood and checked the reservoir and it was empty. There are no visible leaks or anything. When the cars idle the coolant seems to stay but once I start driving, it disappears. What do you think may be the problem. Do you think it’s the radiator cap?
Yes its possibly the radiator cap. I would replace then fill the radiator and reservoir both. Let it run for half hour before putting radiator cap back on. To make sure no air pockets in system. Hopefully it's just the cap. Other things would be the water pump, the temperature sender for the gauge, the actual gauge itself make sure working, worst would be head gasket leak. Hopefully not that one, but possible if you badly overheated vehicle
Yes always top radiator off then also reservoir. Wait until radiator cool though or put large towel over cap when removing. The very hot water flys out
I just found my bypass valve and spring separated from my radiator cap on my Acura RL. Fortunately it didn't seem to cause a major problem but it may be the cause of wimpy interior heat. Odds are it is the original cap from 1999 (with 217,000 miles). I'll get a new cap and see if the interior heat gets better... might be a bad thermostat due to the bad cap though.
You're probably right. If the thermostat is stuck wide open then your heat wouldnt work too well. Id pick up a new radiator cap and thermostat (& gasket) at the dealer and just do them both. Best to get those 2 OEM parts at dealer.
My car loses coolant but there’s no leak, and I changed the radiator a couple months ago since it overheated due to the leaks, but I haven’t changed the radiator cap could that be the problem? And my coolant system bubbles? There’s no white smoke, and my oil looks fine or could there be air in my coolant system? Or is it a bad head gasket?
I would try replacing radiator cap 1st and then go from there. Keep an eye on temp gauge as to not overheat. Could be a few things causing coolant to lose, stuck thermostat, bad water pump, cooling fans not working properly
Hi there. I turn on my engine and left it without the cap and it was overflowing it? Do you know what it could be? I notist its being leaking coolants while i drive it and is heating up.
@@AgustinaQuinteroFelixthe overflow tank shouldn't boil over. That could be caused by bad radiator cap or another issue like stuck thermostat or another issue causing overheating (bad radiator itself, water pump, headgasket, fans not working etc). Be sure to keep eye on temperature gauge and stop driving if starts overheating. I would start with cap, maybe can have someone check vehicle out for you
@@JonnyDIY What i did the next day when the truck wasent hot. I check the coolant and notist it dropped down it wasent full so i added more coolant then i said to my self im going to take the cap out to turn the engine on to see if it bubbles up or something. Then out sudden it was overflowing and droping to the floor. I realize something wasent right. And when i had my cooler system on it wasent heating up i lower it down then it started to heat up and coolant started to drop in the ground again. My truck has a new water pump and a new heater valve. Someone had change in june last year the "t" and the hose. Because i had a coolant dripping also. What im thinking if it would of been a hose or something else it would be dripping coolant even if it was turn off. But it only dripps when is on.
@@AgustinaQuinteroFelix With radiator cap off, every vehicle will overflow coolant out of radiator as it warms up. I would run car with cap on and see if you can find where leaking or dripping. If cant find any leaks, it may be burning the coolant
My coolant in my overflow stays on the full hot…even cold. Would a bad cap prevent the radiator from drawing back from the reservoir? I just replace the pump, no leaks. I also replaced the thermostat, both hoses, valve cover gaskets and grommets and changed the coolant…did not flush it, just changed it out. My LeSabre is not overheating and I have great heat. I’m wondering now if it’s the cap. It’s a 96 with 118k and probably the original cap. Thoughts please? New subscriber as well. Thx.
Yes a bad cap can prevent it from siphoning back to radiator properly. I would replace. Be sure to get one with same psi spec as factory. Sounds like you've done a good job with everything else though 👍
My 2014 Jeep Compass 2L is overheating. The radiator cap rubber gasket is worn out, and have ordered a new one. Thermostats were replaced a year ago and everything else looks ok. Thanks sharing, will let you know of the outcome.
Shouldn't you be running the engine when feeling the radiator with coolant? It sucks it up full. I once filled my truck up with the engine off (when it was cool) and it overheated that day! just want to make sure I get it right Thank you
Yes whenever I drain radiator I do that, but not necessary when just replacing a cap. Now if your system is real low or your losing coolant somewhere yes good idea to do that and keep eye and top up as necessary
Yes after it's cool top off radiator and reservoir with fluid and replace radiator cap. Make sure to get new one with correst psi to match OEM part or buy Oem. Also determine your car isnt overheating from another source 👍
@@JonnyDIY yea i got a new cap and i checked my coolant and i had very little so I refilled it up i took it for a spin around the block and everything is back to normal crazy how a $10 cap can make your engine overheat😭
My cars always get overheat The pipe which goes from radiator cap to the bottle the smoke gets out from there and produce bubbles in the bottle So whats the problem there ? But my cars heat niddle doesnt get up but some times it does when am on a long way But i daily face this issue
Sounds like common overheating which can be caused be numerous possible things. Start easy radiator cap and make sure fans working. Check radiator itself, thermostat, water pump and also could be bad head gasket if burning off the coolant. Check tailpipe for lots of steam and or a sweet burning coolant smell
Mine just blew off today. The coolant is still transparent and the tank was full but bubbling. Haven't replaced the cap since I got the car 8 years ago
@@JonnyDIY welp, once it cooled down, turns out all the coolant spilled out! It looks pretty cruddy in there too. Hope it's just because the cap is old. Oil still looks good 😩 EDIT: yes so the cap appears to have broken completely. I'm going to have to find the other piece now
If radiator loose water and there are no leaks, and cap is good. What then? Maybe radiator doesn't completely fit the cap, I don't know. Why don't they sell new radiators with new caps?
Yes make sure you get the right cap for radiator and for car. After determining if its radiator cap that was at fault, and there's no leaks, Id think the engine was burning coolant from possible headgasket leak. You can do compression test for that or exhaust gas liquid dye test. You can also sometimes smell the coolant burning out the exhaust, sweet smell 👍
Should be pretty full with car off and cold yes 👍Because thats what the overflow tank does is when it expands it flows into it and when cools down radiator sucks back in
@@JonnyDIY i changed the radiator cap, the thermastat, and the radiator was changed... It still bubbles when in idle every once and awhile but not always, do you thing the heater core clogged be part of the problem also or would it be unrelated, I have 2003 jeep Laredo
Heater core clog could make it run hotter yes. Is it overheating at all ever? Check water pump see if weeping fluid also. May want to do pressure test on system to see if air getting into system. If theres s leak it wont hold pressure and will boil at a lower temperature and run hotter
@@JonnyDIY yes I the pressure test was good, Its strange bcs it only happens now and then but not often, I let it idle of nearly 2 hours and nothing no bubbling, drove it for about an hour then parked it let idle again then with in half hour it started over heating and bubbling in the coolent tank
