Using CoolCalc doing a ranch w/ finished basement. Showing difference in loads w/ well done attic duct system vs. duct in the conditioned basement.

I’ve been playing around with cool calc after talking to you on Facebook. I like it! Seems to be easy to use. Thanks for the info and the video.

So for the basement duct system did you literally just not enter any duct system?

Correct because it's in the conditioned space / finished basement. If it's an un-conditioned / un-finished basement then I would add a duct system in.

Michael wow I can see the difference in cal for a 1000sq ft house to my cal. So you came up with about 1.5 ton system? When I did one old style I came up with a 2.5 ton.

It really depends on the inputs, insulation values, etc. Insulating basement walls is a huge, in my experience.

Can't really add pictures, but just removing basement insulation and setting attic insulation to R-19 increased loads to 66K & 22K. FWIW.

So this 1000 sq foot house was the $8500 victim? If so, were there no ducts originally?

They were all removed, started from a clean slate. House was completely gutted and re-done (still actually in the construction phases).

Looks GROSSLY oversized. Any true up using actual energy use? Play with different leakage assumptions? Love to have Ecobee to show true Performance...

It is grossly oversized, with undersized duct. The duct would most likely work out / be borderline for right sized equipment. No energy usage, customer purchased and gutted, have not moved in yet. I can play with different leakage assumptions, easily though in CoolCalc.

@@mhoush does software calculate annual consumption based on load assumption. Carriers version of wrightsoft does. Helps provide reference point/reality check. This house could be 400-1200 therms, depending on lots of factors. Be nice to see what assumptions of calc/sizing etc suggest consumption will be. Then you can make adjustments to assumptions

@@TedKidd it does not do anything like that.
