Full review of the 2018 Vanderhall Venice autocycle! This car comes packed with a lot of features that are sure to make for a fun drive!
The Venice is offered by Vanderhall Motor Works, a small company based out of Utah. They currently have four models: The carbon-bodied Laguna, one-seater Speedster, all-electric Edison, and the Venice. Each is basically the same car with only a few variations. What makes the lineup so special is that each model only has three wheels, allowing them to circumvent a lot of crash regulations.
The Venice has a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 cylinder engine from General Motors. It puts out 200 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough to propel all 1,520 pounds of the Venice from 0-60 in under 5 seconds. The exhaust note doesn't sound too bad either!
The exterior of the Venice is very simple, with a lot of retro and boat-like features. It has a long, low hood, big front grille, circular headlights, and standard 18-inch rims. The main feature is, of course, the single rear wheel in back. It's not a bad-looking car, but I personally prefer the looks of the Polaris Slingshot.
The interior of the Venice is fairly clean as well, with a lot of old-school gauges and waterproof seats. There's actually a nice amount of space, but the storage area behind the seats is really small. It comes standard with A/C, Bluetooth connectivity, and heated seats.

I'm in CA = Helmet! Love this low riding, truly open top Motor vehicle. My Miata has a HUGE metal frame that is obnoxious, but oh so much fun. GREAT REVIEW!!

how can a real wood steering wheel feel fake and plasticky?

If you are viewing this review, it is somewhat inaccurate, as stated below, not 200hp, he didn't drive it, this autocycle is a blast to drive, there is no manual because the cockpit is small and as stated below, FWD usually does not come with a manual and really, you don't need it, it speaks for itself when you test drive one!

I'd go with the Venice. It has wayyyy better performance. Plus it powers the front which is better then the slingshot that puts power to that one single wheel in the back.

I fully agree with the lack of a manual transmission. I discovered these cars about a year ago and I'm still disappointed it's not available. I've read that the transmission used to be available, but it didn't sell. Hmm. Still, rowing one's own gears is integral to the driving experience and an automatic, even with a bump shifter, is a huge miss for me. Frankly, I'd go for the electric Edison2 over this, even though I'm not a big fan of electric power for sports car driving (and I own an electric car). Alas, I'll stick with my vintage British roadster.

There has never been a manual on the Venice. There is an interview with Steve Hall and he says that the geometry of the GM manual would mean that the car would have to be significantly wider. This means it would have to be bigger and heavier.

I'd pay the extra 10k for the laguna just cause of the hood. I wonder if you can add as an option...

No drive report? There is no manual because GM Doesn't offer a manual transmission in this FWD configuration. One thing he doesn't understand and I suspect most readers don't understand is that when a three-wheel vehicle is properly engineered it will out handle anything with three or more wheels, especially when the configuration has two wheels in the front and one in the rear.

GM makes a manual, but because of the way it is packaged, the Venice would have to be significantly wider (and therefore bigger and heavier) to accommodate it. Vanderhall didn't think that was worth it.

180 HP not 200

That thing would be WAYYYYY cooler with four wheels, 300hp, and a five speed. It would be like the old Mercedes W196 or something.

True, but then it would have to go against cars like the Ariel Atom. It's probably a lot tougher of a market to compete in.

Keep practicing the reviews; you sounded great until getting their HP figures wrong. I couldn’t continue after that.

I found the horsepower specs on the official Vanderhall site listed under the Laguna model. Since the Laguna and the Venice have the same engine, I assumed the power output would be the same as well. Here is a link to it: vanderhallusa.com/specs/
