Today I'm testing out the Coolify 2 neck fan, described as a "neck air conditioner." I compare it to the Arctic Air Freedom and another Amazon neck fan. As always, the prices stated in this video are likely to change over time.

So those thermoelectric peltier generators are very cool technology and have virtually no use because of their huge power draw and the fact that it is essentially a plate that when current is ran through it one side cools and one side heats up. They are expensive to produce. I'd say this product is priced very accurate to the cost of the materials and assembly. Its why they have multiple models, I assume the top model is probably awesome at the job its created for with proper voltage and a larger battery pack. Plus if u cool the generator plates they work even better. they probably have a heat pipe in the top unit too to increase it's potency. But materials cost $. This is cool. I wondered if someone would find a use for the peltier generators due to the heavy energy draw. Now you know how it works. Good review 👍

@@MarceloVeronezzi Yeah, the peltier plates cost around 7 bucks and the battery would be 2-3 dollars. Calling this "accurately priced" is ridiculous. At 100 bucks it would be expensive for what it is, and this is almost 2x that.

Peltier coolers are VERY cheap, WTF are you talking about. They sell for a couple of bucks per piece even in very small quantities. I'd also like to know how these neck coolers dissipate the heat from the cooling plates. It seems like it just vents out through the holes by the side of your head?
@candyce6233
@candyce6233 2 года назад
@@mariusvanc I just purchased this product and this is exactly what is wrong with it. It over heats then starts acting weird like one side is fan air only and the other side is ac fan. I think I may try to return this one and exchange for a different one to see if maybe I have a dud bc I really want this to work lol but reading your comment is where the issue is for me. It gets warm quickly too on the opposite side the cooling plates so idk

I would love to ask the designers why they ignored blowing air on the back of the head… When I’m roasting and sweaty and find a fan, I ALWAYS lift my hair and let the air flow up my scalp. A gentle airflow back there would be ideal.

I live in Singapore where weather is really warm and humid all year round. Been using this for a few weeks now. Works great with just the fan at speed 2 for 28-32 degrees celsius night or day walks outside. Under the sun, the cooling function with fan on 2 is good enough, occasionally bumping up to 3 feels great. As someone with higher metabolism and body heat as others, it worked great in keeping me relatively cool to the extend i do not break much of a sweat with it.

Hi Tim Does it feel sticky around the cooling plates I will get it for outdoor jogging in dubai and I kinda feel that it will make me sweat more because its covered with those plates and will be sticky
@TKsheng
@TKsheng 2 года назад
@@Samarequestrian so far I’ve not experienced any stickiness to my neck. The only discomfort i can nickpick is the rubber-like part at the centre joining both sides together, because after awhile it tends to feel a little warmer there due to neck heat, but not to the point of being unbearable. You only feel it if you are conscious about it. Other than that, the plates are extremely smooth even after long usage. It doesn’t really feel like aluminium or metal plates sticking to your neck although they are kinda made of metal. When on cooling mode, its cold enough to chill the parts of your neck in contact with them, that you don’t perspire much there. However in hot humid places, you will tend to have a little condensation there. I haven’t really used it for jogs since i prefer to sweat it out and have nothing restricting my freedom of movement. But the entire unit is relatively heavy compared to most neck fans. They don’t thump on your shoulders like most neck fans since it doesn’t rest on the shoulders like they do, but the weight might be a factor u wanna consider. The one good thing is part of the wind generated by the fans are directed through a different air passage inside used as cooling for the internals, the resulting warm air are then exhausted outwards through the sides, cooling the internals. thus you will never feel the heat of the unit on your neck when it works its hardest. Its a feature alot of neck fans lack, and a welcome feature in this.

I'm not sure how easy it would be for you to get one, but Sony has been making personal temperature (cooling + heating) devices in Asia called the Reon. I believe the Reon 3 just came out. I'd love to see a review on that if you'd ever get a chance :)
@MikeTrieu
@MikeTrieu 2 года назад
Just took a look at this thing and right off the bat I know it's a failure. Why are they cooling the upper back? That's not where the major blood vessels are. You want something either wrapped around your jugular veins or under the armpits or groin. Seeing as how the later two would be very uncomfortable, that only leaves the neck area as a feasible cooling location. Anywhere else is just going to be a psychosomatic response. I think that's what Sony is going for with this product. It doesn't actually cool your body. It's just tricking your nerves into thinking it's getting cooled. In other words, it's probably more gimmick than science. But, hey, if it helps people tolerate the heat in an inexpensive package, who am I to judge?
@theYTnickname
@theYTnickname 2 года назад
@@MikeTrieu Nice try throwing around big words, but the cooling effect is 100% the same, doesn't matter if it is applied to your left earlobe or your right toe. Cooling isn't something magical. And even if it's just "psychosomatic response", isn't that already enough to sweat less and to feel more comfortable? So, job well done.

Sounds like an interesting device and have seen them mentioned on TV once and a while. I dont see myself getting one of these, because of cost, and since I am out on a golf course for several hours and would not last that kind of duration, even putting it on between shots in the summer time. Not sure how much of a noise distraction it really would be playing with other golfers. So I will pass on getting one of these. I will stick with using my large Golf Umbrella, plus it is cheaper and needs no charging. LOL. take care.

And when you sweat when the fans blow on your neck from your sweating it has an air conditioning a fact so the more you sweat the better the fan seems to work.

I don't think you get how thermoelectric coolers work. It's basically a solid state heat pump. One side gets cold while the other side gets very hot. You need to have some way to reject the waste heat or the TEC will start to get hotter on the cold side in very short order. I guess you could strap a very large metal heat sink to the thing to make it fanless, but that wouldn't be very practical for a neck-worn device. So forced air cooling of the heat exchange fins are a necessity, I'm afraid.

My body doesnt regulate temp properly so i am easy to overheat, i sweat profusely even in 20°F weather on my face, but in the winter i freeze from the sweat. Right now, i have 2 window AC units running and im still feeling sick because im too hot. The arctic air is on my head blowing dow right now…rest ot on my ponytail and temples 😂 but it cools me faster this way but only in the AC. I need something that works outside when its 100° like today. The placement of the cooling plates means that if it is powerful enough long enough, it will eventually cool your whole body by cooling the blood in your jugular veins.
@BN99239
@BN99239 2 года назад
It's definitely not enough. On a hot day when you would actually need these, your body pretty much heats up the blood that circulates through the neck area the moment that the cooling plates are able to cool them off. It feels cool but it definitely is not enough to cool your body down. It also only lasts about 1.5 hours for me so that's not nearly long enough. The biggest fault I have with these is that it CANNOT be plugged into a portable battery pack or into an outlet to use while charging. The cheap Chinese neck fans have this functionality. Come on Coolify.

This is something I'd take a look at if it bad a longer battery life so it could last an entire baseball games length so I could sit in the sun comfortably. I get hot extremely easy in the sun and so I would need a product like this if I were to not get a seat in the shade.

Purchased the Coolify 2 w/ the extra battery life for my bday and it came in a few days ago. I do like what it does to keep me cooled down but now all of a sudden I’ve notice the outside where the little engine is gets hot. Like when you can feel your laptop getting warm after using it for a while. But I hadn’t had it on for more then 5 mins with a 100% battery when I noticed it. Then one end was just blowing fan and other end had ac fan. I think I may have a dud

I don't see this as effective and comfortable as a simple bandana dampened with cool water from your water bottle. That's what military does and is more comfortable for active movement of the neck. If you add a simple fan to that you get a huuuge boost.

@CadgerChristmasLightShow
@CadgerChristmasLightShow 2 года назад
I'm a landscaper who works in ~100 degree heat all day in July/august and even I wouldn't consider getting this. Wetting my hat with water and using one of those soakable neck towels would be far better than air blowing on your neck. Especially if you have very long hair like me. 180 bucks for air on your neck is insane, I need air all over my body (The wind) to feel cooled off lol.

I almost included that cheap Amazon model to compare a few until I read all of the negative reviews. The $50 neck personal AC system on Amazon, which has three cooling unit areas, received many negative reviews with product returns due to the fan on the back tugging hair. This unit also received many negative reviews due to it not being cordless and not fitting people with larger necks. This product fits the category of "too-good-to-be-true" due to its enticingly low price.

I install heating and air conditioning and I work in attics a lot during the summer and I been thinking about buying a neck fan with cooling plates long as it lasts as long as it takes to recharge so I would buy 2 so I always have one cause 8 hours in a attic in the summer is rough 120 degrees and up and water and fans can only do so much

You mentioned the temperature of the air blowing upward on the first two but I never heard you mention the temperature of the air blowing upward of the star of the show? Not picking on ya, I get the same information from others that have reviewed the item. I get that it makes your neck much cooler. Thanks for that. Very good review nonetheless
@Freakinreviews

I probably glossed over that due to my infatuation with the large cooling plates. I don't think the air is any cooler, but the large area of my neck being cooled seems to make me interpret the air from the fans as being colder, maybe due to their close proximity.

I wish you lived in a humid area like Houston. I am curious how it works in hot humid weather. I have to walk to the a store now in 90 degree heat. I am too cheap to pay $180, I will just be hot.

My problem with this style of fan is it collides with my bun and I can't make it higher because I wear a hat. And these tend to slowly twist around your neck so doing any kind of physical work makes you need to stop and fix it. I switched to an O2Cool fan. Not advanced by any means but it stays out of the way for the most part.

I expect that the cooling plates, if they press on your jugular veins, will cool down your blood allowing your body to cool down but I'm no doctor. I know if you run cold water over your wrists it can cool you down a little

I have been doing experiments with Pellitere circuits for 15 years but couldn't get past it being such a power hog. If it could last for 2 hrs on a full charge I would do it. Again I have been playing with this circuit for 15 yrs. I hope they broke the power sustainability for making it work and stay cool for just 2 hrs. Is that so much to ask.
