Thank you so much!! I have a problem on my nissan sentra 99 fan not working it seems to be same problem because its recieving power. Great teacher pleasant to watch :) seasons greetings God Bless i wish i knew how to fix my own, i know a lot about fixing computers but know nothing about cars
I bypassed the fan fuse and spliced the fan straight into a relay input but I have no control to turn it off or on at will... what electrical setup should I make/ buy from autozone/O’riellies
if i run a msd ignition modual do i still have to run a ballister resistor going to igntion coil.Just switch my 92 mustang to carburated and am having hell with wirring in msd in place of a dura spark ignition modual
Great video. Im also having overheating problems with my 2002 ford focus ztec dohc. How can i test the resistor connector if it is receiving power? Does the car has to be warm so the resistor send current to the low speed fan? Or can be checked with the switch in "on" position?
What temperatures should the fans be coming on low and then high? When I turn on the AC the fans come on low and when I disconnect the temp sensor entirely the fans come on high. But they don't seem to come on soon enough to kick the fans on before the coolant boils.
Auxilary fan does not work on my 06 Nissan Frontier CC. Took it to my mechanic, replaced cooling sensor, checked relays n fuses, hooked motor direct to battery, everything working good. Next step, I'm afraid I need to take it in to dealership, will let u know how much $ and if they fixed problem. Thanks for the video.
Hi. I have an 02 325i (automatic) e46 BMW. I did the conversion of changing the fan clutch to a brand new electric radiator fan. Did the connection but, fan spins continually not to slow nor fast. What do you think? Thanx.
not enough info to actually diagnose, but you are on a good start. If fuses are not blown and relays are good it is most likely a bag ground, excessive resistance, or a bad resistor.
Hi there my headache is with a 03 grand am gt 3.4 cooling fans do come on but only if I turn on heater.then they stay on even after turning heater off.not sure dropping resistor. ? Thanks
How come we see y'all and it we can't find no one that does this exact thing from these mechanic that we have around here. I trying to understand these procedures by myself. I'm just a homemaker trying to understand these instructions clearly. My fans are constantly really low cooling.
So i wonder do all cars have these coolant fans dropping resisters..I have a 94 caprice and my fans motors are good but the car runs hot because the fans wont come on..what do i need to replace i have new fuses and relays.
I hope you can point me in the right direction. My wife's 2000 Mazda Protege has no leaks, does not overheat, nor run badly. As well, we replaced the waterpump and timing belt about 2 years ago. However, when I looked in her overflow tank, it looks like dirty water. Though it has been flushed out, 6 months later it is there again. BTW, there is no oil/water mixture in the oil. What is the source of this muddy-water looking fluid in the reservoir tank?
I changed the sensor switch on top of the thermostat and the 2 sensors below the distributor and my cooling fan doesnt come on when u turn on the ac and it's supposed to but never does. I checked my relays and fuses and they're fine. I thought maybe my fan needs to be replaced but I ran alligator clips from the cooling fan directly to the battery and the cooling fan came on with no problem. So my question is why isnt my cooling fan turning on when I turn on the ac???? The fan on the driver side comes on without any problems.
I have a 2003 Chevy Malibu and the fans don't come on and the car overheats. I haven't been using it cause I don't want to damage the engine. But, I tested the fans and ran a wire to the battery and the fans come on high; I also turn the a/c on and the fans come on high. I checked the fuses and relays and they are good, except fuse 55 cooling fan #2 ground (30amps) (v6 only) doesn't light up the test light. The wiring diagram says hot all times but I guess it should complete the circuit when the cool temp shorts out. I replaced the thermostat and that didn't fix the problem either. Then I shorted out the wires that go to the coolant temp sensor and that did turn on the fans on high. So I went ahead and replaced the coolant temp sensor, but it still doesn't turn the fans on and the car overheats. I then thought the coolant wasn't flowing and replaced the water pump, and the same issue. Then I opened up the bleeder valve and put more coolant, then turned the heat high with blower low, and still no fix to the issue. I then took out relay #12 (cool fan #2) and ran a wire from 30 to 87 to see if the fans turned on low and they did, so this determined that relay #15 (cool fan mode relay also works because it has to go through that relay to complete that circuit). But still I can't fix this. With the information I have provided, what do you guys think it is?
I have an 04 Mercury Grand Marques. Same system for 03-05 Panther platform cars. Bought new dorman 620-120. Installed it. Still no cooling fan. 3 wires to fan controller +red, -black, orange (signal wire from pcm) no relays separate. 50 amp fan square fuse in distribution box, under hood. Tests good. There's a coolant temp sensor ez to get at, passenger side front, cylinder head temp sensor, under intake manifold, passenger side head. The factory temp gauge works great. Where does pcm, receive info, to signal fan controller? Please tell me, it's not cylinder head temp sensor!!!. Not expensive, but stupid to get at!! Like I said fan, and controller, are brand new!
I have a 96 olds cutlass supreme, 3.1l, and 2 electric radiator fans. The problem is only one of the 2 fans works when called upon. I've verified that the other fan works by bench testing it and jumping the relay for fan #2. Fan #2 is actually the a/c condenser fan. I'm pretty sure the ecm knows of both these fan relays, but only fan #1 works. The fuses and relays for these 2 fans appear to be good. What might be the problem now? Is there anything else in the circuit that I am not aware of?
you can short out the ECT sensor with a resistor fooling the PCM into thinking the car is hot which would trigger the cooling fans on. You can buy resistors at radioshack for a few bucks.
My dad had a windstar years ago with a fan failure, he checked everything, relay, fuses etc...and never figured out. I wonder if the problem was that resistor.
hi sir, i have a problem in my temperature gauge. when the headlight is off the temperature is normal but if i turn the headlights on the gauge goes to hot. can you help me about this?
i almost have the same problem but both of the conectors dont have power or ground to ive put them directly to the battery sooo when i turn the radio on the fans work
Is it possible that a bad engine coolant temperature sensor could also not allow your cooling fans to come on? Can you jump the ECT sensor wires to confirm whether or not that could be part of the problem? Thank you.
Bill, sure it's possible but it would depend on how your cooling fan is designed to come on. If the ECT is sending a signal to the PCM that indicates the coolant is not hot, then the PCM will not turn on the cooling fans. Check it with a scanner. Also, your car may allow you to command the cooling fans to come on so you cab check them.
I've got the Haynes book out studying the wiring diagrams and they don't look anything like the ones that you use, so I can't tell how it is designed to come on.
Bill, send me the details about your vehicle, yr, make, model, eng and what your looking for. I'll try and get the diagram and send you a color coded copy
2003 Ford Focus ZX5 2.0 L Zetec DOHC After some more studying of the diagram, I saw where my engine actually has Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor. To me it looks like the sensor is a variable resistor. I did find where my diagram has a line coming from the PCM with an arrow going to text that says fan relay( but it shows no circuitry). Thank you very much for all of your help! Bill
The ac will not work if your low fan don't start. Check the wires from the relay to the fan. I replace them because the where cooked for the heat of the block. Now it works like a charm...
Please help me .Give me the cause? My Internal cooling fan was not working then i changed it with a new fan in a shop then after it works and i was working nicely with uptodate laptop but within a month again my cooling fan stop working then i take it to shop and complain but they said that i have problem in any other chip which is damaging cooling fan ?? Is this true? i am not satisfy with the mechanic statement.
I found the problem on my Windstar and now is working. The issue is related with the cables from the relay to the fan. They are cooked since they are near from the block. After rewire the cables everthing started to work again. FORD = Found On the Road Dead...
Wow! I wish you could look at my car. I don't think my high speed fan ever came on as long as I owned my car and I've been brushed off by at least a dozen mechanics because the slow speed works but it never kicks in at high speed. One garage told me to leave it and that it could cost a lot of money to locate an electrical issue in a 2004 Volvo v70. Is there a book out there that has all that information that I could use to help me locate a problem?
Ron, yes there are all sorts of books available. However your problem is electrical. So the best thing you can do is get and study the electrical diagram for your specific vehicle. That diagram will show EXACTLY how it is supposed to work because it is drawn by the engineers who designed it. Then you will simply need basic testing skills. Approach it like a detective, look for evidence for what is and what isn't working. The evidence will lead you to the problem. Those dozen mechanics that brushed you off simply don't understand that, or they are not willing to put I n the time.
@@realfixesrealfast I believe you're right. Most of them ask me to leave my car and tell me it could take awhile. The last mechanic told me it could get really expensive locating faulty electrical problems on a car. I'll take your advice, instead. Thanks
I installed a cold air intake on my 2009 mazda rx-8. when the car is running the fans don't come on but when I turn it off they do for awhile. I'm wondering if I forgot to hook something up or if it's backwards anybody got any ideas?
Have a 2002 impala radiator fans work but won't come on. Good relays. Just bought car runs good but no radiator fans. Have to wire them up from under the hud before I get in and out 🤣 Help
My fan works but is pulling 37 amps. It has melted the 40 amp fuse. Why is pulling too much? My mechanic says I should replace the fan. Do you agree? I appreciate your time and expertise very much. I wish you continued success. John in Texas.
maybe someone can help me out. I replaced the cooling fans to my Buick rendezvous 2005 and it keeps heating up. So now I replaced the thermostat and it didn't fixed the problem. SO WHAT'S NEXT? 😳
Maybe you can answer my question; My fans don't come on. However ; after checking all relays and fuses related to this matter. All good. Still no fans come on. When I apply power direct to the fans, fans come on. I read voltage, I get 12.something voltage... Voltage good. When I remove the relay, the fans come on. What am I going wrong ?
the relay has two sides, 1 is control the other is contacts. The control side is basically a switch that turns the relay on. That switch needs a signal as an input, that signal is the temperature switch. Try bypassing the temp switch, jump both wires together, and see if the relay works then.
@@realfixesrealfast thank you for responding, yes I tried that already. Nothing happens when I jump it at the wire. No fans come on. When I disconnect the temperature sensor, my temperature gauge in the dash board not working. When I reconnect the temperature sensor, gauge is working again. Mmmm ???? Confused ??? Very much so.
