🔺 Our Mission 🔺
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.
“Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.”
Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry.
Through a heartwarming collection of true stories he describes his challenging transformation from a shy dyslexic teenager, to the founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.

Beautiful! I live in Redding California, I’ve seen some hawks lately flying around our property, we have a mating couple of bald eagles that have atleast 1 baby a yr the last few yrs 3 usually 😊 (down by the Sacramento River by our house) we have a bunch of falcons lately and huge I mean HUGE vultures. I’m not sure what type they are black with yellow beaks and some have red necks but others don’t. We had one land on our big oak the bird was bigger than our golden retriever with a beak the size of my chihuahua atleast (we don’t let our little dogs out alone ever) we didn’t used to get all these birds of prey until about 5 yrs ago (around the house). I think it’s because of all the wild fires we’ve been getting. I’m so happy to know you save these beautiful birds!

Always good videos Martin..I love them..here where I live in a Pittsburgh suburb for years we have had a pair of doves that made a nest above a light fixture on my front door...usually we hear them each morning cooing..so relaxing..but this year's dove in two days disappeared..till at the end of my driveway all there was were grey feathers everywhere..I have seen many times in my back yard on my fence one now and then eyeing up a rabbit from time to time..no doubt a Coopers Hawk might have had breakfast. Now we have no more cute sounds in the morning..just silence except from blue jays etc..keep up the great work you do for all of us by helping and saving these beautiful birds of prey..Bob

@@GowildlifeOrg Glad you got this on camera. Did she ever catch a pigeon while she was hanging around? Most folks miss the actual catch. That would be something to see. I didn't know hawks would take down other birds until one day I saw a dove fly off a chain link fence 40 ft away from me, just in time to get taken down by a red tail hawk. It flew another 20 feet away with it, landed and started plucking out feathers. I'd never seen anything like it at the time.

They all migrate? Im in Ontario and wrote to you about the coopers that became a monster in my backyard all winter. I do feed all kinds of birds, so the coopers thought my backyard was a buffet. Every day my yard looked like a crime scene. I was cleaning up bits of bird and blood everywhere. Why did the one here not migrate? She is still around but do not see her as often. I know when she is around as the outside becomes dead silent.

She is a beautiful hawk. This last February I had a group of Harris's hawks kill one if my chickens. The female which had also attacked a cat was so large that I thought it was an eagle. Then I realized after several hours of them feeding on this chicken between my interruptions that there was actually a pack of Harris's hawks. From what I read these are the only raptors in the world that hunt in packs. There was the large female and 2 to 3 smaller hawks that looked nothing like her. It was all very interesting and eventually they went on their way. I believe the large female is the real killer. The cat had deep talon cuts across his hips and barely made off with his life. The chicken wasn't so lucky. They will probably return this winter and now I have 32 laying hens to watch out for. They are beautiful birds.

The coop in my yard favors the mourning doves for meals. Rarely does she catch anything else, I guess the doves are slow and I see that when the jays call a warning, the mourning dove pays no mind!

3:00 - aaaand right back to the pigeon's coop, as Mrs. Tyner correctly stated. And that from a cooper's hawk of all birds! Which makes we wonder, would it have helped to show that bird the larger predators first who also live there? You know, the ones big enough to eat Cooper's Hawks? 😉
