Opening statement by BL: “It’s going down? No.” Within earshot of the runners. Don’t be fooled by this guy’s faux modesty.

Because he's not an idiot. He supports them, people will say good things about Bernard. If he doesn't support them, people will dislike him. But deep down, he's a hardcore competitor. He hopes his records lasts for a long time still and I don't blame him.

I'm shocked by this stat, but that was the first time Morgan Beadlescomb broke 4 in the mile. His PR before today was 4:01.22. Now he's #1 in the NCAA and #4 all time with 3:52.03.

The biggest mistake young runners make is going too soon. The college kid should have waited but he tried to take the lead with 200 to go and lost his kick. He's also running against two of the best so he's gotta respect that and wait. Hindsight says he should've waited until 50 meters to go. Anyway, excellent effort by the collegian.

@@donshields2379 Maybe my use of "young" is throwing people off. I should probably say rookie or greenhorn. The collegian needs to learn from his mistake now. He doesn't have time to wait until he's forty to lose his hubris and get wise. His coach should be telling him on the art of sitting and kicking.

wondering why from physiological standpoint white guys are doing relatively well in mid-distance runs !? They are rather non-existent in sprints, and in longest distances. But in 1 mile they are doing good - why ? :) [perhaps even my assumptions are not exactly right, because I'm just an ultra-casual viewer of running]

Because the long distance stuff is suited almost exclusively to genetics from the Rift Valley...Nearly all elite sprinters are descended from West Africa...Middle distance requires a different physiology again.
@xanderarmstrong6198
@xanderarmstrong6198 2 года назад
Plenty of great Kenyan and East African middle distance runners like Bernard Lagat and David Roudisha. We see people of all different ethnic makeups excel at running. The genetic advantages like long limbs and high vo2 max that help with Kenyan and Ethiopian runners at longer distances like the 10k and Marathon don't produce the the same difference in results at shorter distance, and the necessity for fast twitch sprinting muscles lessens as you go beyond 400 meters. The 800, mile and 5k all prioritize willpower over strength and efficiency over distance which is probably why you see so many different types of people excelling at those awkward distances. Or at least that's how I see it
