I’m only ten minutes in but I can’t help but think that the decision to make the dad out of clay and the mom out of wood was symbolically intentional. Seems dad might be a more malleable character and mom is more stiff/rigid

I am reserving judgment on the game’s story for now. It’s important to remember that just because the game talks about divorce and has a kid wanting their parents not to be divorced doesn’t mean that it’s divorce shamming. There are different ways to tell a story and I’m willing to see where it goes. That being said the gameplay and the art seem really fun.

"The talking volume is way louder than the background volume" I say that's a good thing. You can never hear the characters over a game.

This is disturbing.. but I want more.

I will say this, Ash and Jasmine will love this game for it's silliness, it's gameplay, it's beauty but most of all. It's overall story.

The moment i saw this game announced I immediately thought you two would have a blast playing it. I was right! :D

I feel like the beginning of the game is trying to say “hey, your kid might not understand why you guys are divorcing, they might try to say/do anything to get you guys to stop.”

I think the developers were shaming the characters and their poor characteristics, not their decision to get a divorce. Just look at how they pretend in the beginning to see an example of this. They put on a "nice parent" facade in front of Rose, but she sees straight through it. Instead of making sure that their problems wouldn't hurt their daughter, they bickered. They make a show of "we are getting a divorce to make things better!" but the problems they have will continue on long after their divorce. May is unable to balance work and life, Cody is airheaded and arrogant. Neither of them would have good relationships after the divorce is finalized. The book thinks that getting them together is the solution, but I think the solution is getting them both to see their faults. Even now they still blame each other, but almost every problem thus far has had multiple facets. The vacuum was BOTH of their responsibilities, but they both left it alone, the problem festered, and now it came back to bite them. Is "getting back together" the solution? Depends on what happens in the rest of the game. They could easily go the somber "We've gone through this journey together, but still want to go our separate ways." route, or they could go the "After all this, it is hard to think of being around anyone else." route. Either way, I hope they are smart and tactful about divorce and relationship problems. I think they made the intro more controversial on purpose, and I love the gall it takes to take a risk like that. If it pays off this could be one of the best games of the year, if not, one of the most disappointing and unrealistic games of the year.

I still own “The Pagemaster” and “The Brave Little Toaster” on VHS to this day. Love both movies so much

I think the message it is trying to send a the beginning is that you should not just divorce because it is the easy way out. Loving each other will take some work

I love how natural the dialogue feels between the parents. It kind of feels like they are either based on real conversations or the conversations were just improved. The movements for the player characters feel really natural too, I can't help but feel like rotoscoping might have been used.

I personally don't think this game is divorse shaming. We clearly saw that the dolls are used by daughter so I think that we see the point of a child that the divorce is bad and i think by us "the dolls" she will learn that it's not bad actually.
