I was born there too. I got to go visit there While we were traveling to Eureka California for my grandpa’s funeral. I went with my mom and brought my little sister and step dad with us. I was so happy to see where I was born, and I haven’t been there since I was an infant.
We moved to Coos Bay in 1980, due to my husband's job change. I worked at the Hospital, as an RN. We moved, again, in 1982, to Topeka, KS, due to my husband's job change, again. My son, and his family, still live in Coos Bay, and I've been back there, for a visit, a few times.
Oh man thank you that’s where I’m from. I loved your video I was born in Cokeville grew up in Bandon and finished off high school in Marshfield. Hi I love being able to see elephant rock table rock and Sunset Beach in the botanical gardens. I’m up here in Laramie Wyoming been here since 93. I miss home and you showed me I need to go visit my family my roots. Thank you.
As a local, I appreciate the time and effort you took to highlight our little town. It has an interesting history and a bright future but we are not without our trouble now. Visiting Bandon is always fun, it's our favorite getaway close to home! And shore acres is so nice in the spring. The rose garden smells amazing. Also in the winter the entire park is decorated in Christmas lights and it's our favorite local tradition. Thanks again for showing people our small haven on the coast.
North Bend, hometown. Class of 1963. Couldn't ask for a better place to grow up back then. Much smaller in those days, and the competition between North Bend and Coos Bay/Marshfield was keenly felt. Still call them, Pi-Rats. :>)
I just returned to Florida after driving to Coos Bay and spending a year and a half there, looking to buy a house. Sadly, it's like everywhere else, houses selling for two and three times what they're worth. It was very hard to leave. I love Coos Bay.
I think you did a really nice job of sharing our community. I was born and raised in North Bend. Lived here during the 50's and 60's. Lived in San Diego for years and then moved back home in 2007. It's nice to be home.
Coos Bay has heavy history towards my dad’s family. It’s one of the reasons why I love visiting there besides the nice beaches there. My great grandpa James Whitty was part of the Coos Bay Lumber Company.
I grew up in Coos Bay. Your report is excellent. It is a unique and beautiful area. There are plusses and minuses of course like anywhere but I think the plusses outweigh the negatives. When I lived there, there was also a lot of creative stuff, music festivals, art, etc. which was really nice. It is kind of small town and it rains a ton though and it can feel a little bit closed in if you live there, I guess depending on your situation. I'm glad I grew up there and sure would like to go back more frequently than I've been able to in my adult life. So I esp. appreciate your video and getting to see my hometown again. The wildness of the beaches, the forests, the dunes, some of the most beautiful places on earth. Magical.
Next time you go, you should visit Gold and silver Falls . It’s up the Coos river to Allegany, Oregon up the east fork . You have to walk into the falls but it’s not very far and they are beautiful. The trip up to Allegany is also very beautiful. If you go please do a video on it. I would love to see it and hear what you think.it’s worth it.Thanks.
I was born in coos bay, raised in California. I don't get many opportunities to visit home so I really appreciate your video! Gonna be back for my 28th!
Currently live in Humboldt County California, and have visited Coos Bay many times. It's a great place to storm watch during winter, and the surrounding towns are lovely (Tony's crab shack in Bandon makes killer clam chowder & lobster rolls!!). Shore Acres is beautiful...and is decorated with lights during the Christmas holiday season (grab a shuttle from The Mill Casino, as parking at shore acres can be difficult during the holidays).
Excellent video! I grew up in Eugene, but have never been to Coos Bay. Now I live far away, but will see if I can squeeze in a visit to the area someday.
Next time, ask about and take a pleasant walk at Mingus park. Once in a while and during Christmas, there is an antique (origan, instrument)at an old theatre where they play concerts. In North Bend they hold an Old Oprey at a old theatre, both events are lots of fun. The gardens at Cape Arago have three seasons to visit different flower displays, dahlias, roses, and camellias with azaleas. The same gardens have a Christmas light display there worth a trip.
Interesting history. I was surprised at the amount of detail you captured since you do not live there, yet missed the Army World War I training camp. My grandfather was stationed there for training in 1917 before shipping out to Germany in the infantry. Born and raised and living in Ohio, he was of German descent so stayed on after the war as a translator for another 6 months or so. My mom (her dad) said he enjoyed his time in Coos Bay.
Im a local, when you come back I can show you the secret less visited sites here. Like the estuary the caves along the cliffs to even the old abandoned highway
I moved to North Bend in May of this year from Longmont Colorado. Where are you from? I especially love whale watching some of then stay year round and most go to Mexico for the winter and come back in the Spring with their new babies.
Breaker one nine oduck hear. In order to save 10 cents for the fairy workers would swim with log. As the bridge was being built and finished the same time as the sf bridge. Kellogg in impure along with harmony lane was built by Chuck Smith and Mr Turlington was the chief for Charleston fire dept and also the pastor for the. Hazleton community church. Yes there's a lot of history in Charleston, empire, Marshfield, coos bay north bend. I wS born there in 1969 and family ties go back to the 1800s.
I stayed there for five weeks, thinking I might move to Oregon from Ca. This was several years ago, but it had a huge homeless population, big drug problems, and really hard to find a place, fifty people in line before you. Both rentals and for sale places sky high. Not one day of sun either. Yuck!
Good we've had enough people move here from California 😂 people from California buying places to rent out at sky high prices is why our market sucks so much.
Just moved from coos bay across country I’d recommend no one to live there your right it’s unsafe the homeless and theft is out of control and there are very to few resources for these people that are struggling. The cops and people are pretty nasty. For a vacation it’s great but if you live there it’s just as bad as Redding cali were im from. Just in a smaller area. A couple months ago there’s been 2 killings which is unheard apparently?! But in the year I lived there I saw more tweaks with knifes than I’d like to admit. Everyone for the most part is for themselves just a depressing rock that people get stuck in. Very sad, if I were to ever have kids, coos bay would be out of the picture. I do miss the ocean.
There is inaccurate information in this video. Born and raised here...not trying to be rude at all. The first county seat was in Empire and the population of CB is nowhere near 65,000 people.
Thanks for the polite correction. I did internet research for my information which leaves the door open for misinterpretation or wrong information, but know I try to be as accurate as possible. In regards to population, I am well aware Coos Bay itself only has 16,326, but the greater bay area is all of Coos County which has a 2020 census of 64,929.
Great little video. I am glad that they mentioned the drug use. It is prevalent here. I been here 11 years now, great place, just wish it wasn't overseen by democrats! The drug/homeless problem is a huge problem, GO KATE BROWN!! I love living here, I do carry a handgun everywhere I go because of the drug/homeless problem, other than that, and the tsunami issue, I will stay until I can get enough money to move. Great place to visit, wouldn't move here these days.
I realize right wingers love to blame everything from bad weather to stubbing your toe on democrats, but Coos Bay is represented by 2 republicans and 1 democrat and the town is actually run by republicans. And by the way, drugs and homelessness is a NATIONWIDE problem and has been getting steadily worse since 1980.
Stop advertising my town! You're gona get us more Californians moving here we don't need that shit they wrecked their state so they come here and vote the same. Also, you missed a bunch of the best stuff.
@@EdDunkle Actually my wife’s sister lives there. She belongs to the tribe. We go there often and what I see is that it’s going down hill fast. Homeless, drugs, crime and so on. It’s sad. Nice place to visit.
I was just there about a month ago from CA. Believe me, I have no desire to ever visit Coos Bay again, let alone move there. There is nothing interesting or charming or appealing there.
