Exactly... not to mention even if they didn't get violent, they show up and don't accept "no nothing happened, I don't want to talk to you" they keep questioning you trying to get a "yes a crime occurred" which leads to unnecessary and false charges... they don't accept "no" then also asking a girlfriend whether her boyfriend (who she's apparently fighting with about something) everyone's mad at the answer "nothing happened" so I can see why some women eventually lie and say okay "something criminal happened" then afterwards the gal recants her statement and tries to fix it, but the police and courts won't take "nothing criminal happened" as an answer... they will literally go forward with charges without your support and while you're telling them "no crime occurred" all in a bad attempt at "keeping domestic violence victims safe" all while police commit domestic violence themselves at an alarming rate... they also often times end up arresting the boyfriend and start dating the victim.

Their quiet little life got disturbed somewhat by a circumstance that is yet to be confirmed and you immediately come to the conclusion that it's a regular occurrence. If anything, the neighbors would've heard the cops arrive and chose to not exit their domicile to give their side of the story, possibly confirming that the alleged perpetrator left the building, something they'd surely have noticed. Instead they stayed inside, probably eavesdropping on what was going on outside their door. It is unconfirmed, but likely, that they called the cops, yet it does not seem that they were even contacted by the police. It would've been easy enough for the cop to just turn 180 degrees and knock the other door to get more information and confirm what she claims as indisputable from a seemingly anonymous call... Every step of the way the police showed laziness, arrogance, insincerity and an authoritarian reflex towards violence. When she said she did not want to press charges and that the alleged perpetrator had already left, the situation should've been defused from there on. Let me give you an alternate course of events: - Cop knocks, woman comes outside and gives same information as we've seen. She also states her reluctance to talk to the police, citing concern with the departments reputation for violence. - So far everything is the same... What follows is the alternate course this could've taken. - Cop says: "Ok, I understand that, I see you are ill at ease so let me take a step back so we can hopefully talk without feeling intimidated." - Woman reaffirms her stance on not wanting the police involved, not wanting to press any charges and invoking her right to remain silent on whatever happened. - Cop says: "Ok, feel free to go into your domicile if you feel safer there, if there is danger for you or anyone else within your domicile, I ask you to communicate that with me now, repeatedly winking would be a good non-verbal way of communicating that to me." - Woman says there is no such danger and does not give any indication of danger within her domicile, starts to move back to her door. - Cop says: "Ok, let me give you my card, you can contact me directly if you ever feel threatened or in danger, or if you wish to follow up on this call-out. Feel free to call any time, we are here to help." - Woman takes card, goes inside. - Cop turns to neighbors house to see if she can get extra information of what was going on. I'll assume neighbor has some talk about yelling and a loud argument, they may or may not confirm that they called the cops and whether they saw someone leave. - Cop knocks on door of woman again, states she has gathered some information of a loud argument and asks again if everything is okay. - Woman reaffirms that everything is okay now. - Cop files report, possibly visits back a week later to check that everything is okay. - Cop has protected and served...

@@I-dont-reply Somebody should not have to _like_ police in order for them to *do their jobs* and *protect them from harm* when they need it. This is not some petty high-school popularity contest. Police do not exist to protect only people who are nice to them. *They are supposed to follow the law and protect people regardless of personal feelings.* That's their goddamn job. That is exactly the sort of fragile-ego, tit-for-tat attitude which is part of the reason _why_ so many people don't like dealing with cops in the first place. And legitimately so. People also don't just suddenly wake up on e day and say "I think I'm going to not like talking to cops". It's pretty likely that the reason why she doesn't like talking to them because the police have actually mistreated her in the past too, which would mean her position is entirely justified and it's really all the police's fault to begin with, so maybe they should be looking more at their own behavior if they want people to actually like them more. Plus, *she is the f*cking victim here.* Regardless of why she doesn't like talking to them, not respecting her discomfort and forcing her to do so longer than necessary is just _adding extra emotional abuse to somebody who you believe may have already been abused_ and making everything even worse than before. The police should not be deliberately causing additional emotional stress or physical harm (or causing them to fear for their future safety) to people who are the _victims_ of crimes to begin with. If you think that's an acceptable thing for _anyone_ to do, then you are just a disgusting excuse for a human being.
