Season 2 Episode 17: Two officers had been shot and one had been murdered in Washington, D.C. They had been sitting in their patrol cars when a man sneaked up on them and opened fire. The 1995 murders of Prince George's County Police Department officer John Novabilski and FBI Special Agent William H. Christian Jr. compelled the FBI to help catch the cop killer in a confrontation which lead to a violent gun battle.
The FBI Files is an American docudrama that takes a look behind the scenes of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's crime laboratory.
Real FBI cases are recounted through reenactments and interviews, due to the sensitive nature of the show, viewer discretion is advised.

I think you should come and see how things run here in Finland. What takes months/years to happen there gets done smoothly in a day or two in here. During my 35 years of life there has been two crimes where an officer has died in this country. The first one was back in 97 and the guy (Steen Christensen, who came here from Denmark while he escaped during his 24h vecation from the prison) got cought in three days and the second one happened in 2016 and was solved right away. We just dont have any serialkillers etc. or shootings at the police because our laws dont operate like that a person X could get 20yrs. for selling an amount of drugs that fit in a teaspoon - so why shoot at the officer?

@Dashing TIM Your level of gross ignorance is simply astounding! First of all, most of what people call "murders" by police are at worst manslaughter, and more often justified shootings. On top of that, actual crimes by cops that take an innocent person's life are perpetrated by such a minuscule percentage of cops, the chances of you actually unwittingly helping a cop like that are slim to none. You're simply a prejudiced, hypocritical person that would rather let a murderer go free. And I will not reply back to you, because I guarantee you're just going to type some bullshit hate-filled reply, and I've already said what needs to be said.

When he changed the rendezvous point it was intentional so that he could be sure to be the first one in place and could watch the police arrive. Mourad Ikhlef I truly believe when the police came with his lights on and blew up that spot that the whole sting should have been aborted, they knew at that time that he called his ex-girlfriend and said he didn’t see her. At that point they knew he was watching from a distance which put all of them in a bad position. They should have had a massive amount backup on the ready to set up a big perimeter around the outskirts of the gas station. Not to mention they should have been in groups of two so one man could be on surveillance for the station while his partner keeps look out of any one sneaking up on them.

People need to realize that these are re-enactments. When you see a car in the re-enactment, it doesn't mean that is exactly where it was parked by the cops. When you see a cop with binoculars in a re-enactment, it doesn't mean that's exactly where that cop stood, or how the cop actually surveyed the scene. When you see a bridge and water below, it doesn't mean that's the actual bridge that a victim was thrown off of. These are RE-ENACTMENTS, people! Because of camera angles, you're not going to have the re-enactment look exactly like it was. Because of things that don't have to be told to the public, you're not going to know exactly how these agents do everything. You'll get the re-enactment version just to watch while you listen to the story. Video after video, someone in the comments has to spew a bunch of "I'm so clever" BS, because they can't seem to understand that these are re-enactments!

I guess they used tried and true tactics over anything. Most criminals are stupid. They make dumb mistakes that makes the police's job as simple as waiting for the perp to show and then spring the trap. With all of the attacks on police and Federal Agents, it's a wonder why they didn't approach the case more differently.

Due to various reasons - Most likely there wasn’t enough time as the meeting location kept changing. Back in the days, communication amongst different law enforcement departments wasn’t as smooth due to different procedures and communication technologies. The perp was known to listen in on police chatter. Informing local pd would have given him away. Also the agent thought he did good job hiding, but clearly not since a local cop found him. Overall poor policing - from the first time he outran cops from the cab to the dead agent’s blunder.

Or having a sniper in the woods or not chose an open location around woods when u know his coming to kill ? They handled him so poorly- mistakes after mistakes-he was there earlier then them - they didn’t have an undercover around there !! Just dressy up as workers or have offices to know so you don’t call for backup after shooting- when officer out of blue comes there the cover was gone - and he only went after him They didn’t learn from their mistakes, when they find out who he was they kept a secret and put officers in the risk - public & offices had to know who he was then he could be catch faster. The taxi driver single hand did a good job - right there they lost him .

@@Falcon-um7vo "Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa - NYPD detectives with a combined 44 years on the job - were the embodiment of corruption: decorated cops who fell in with the criminals they were supposed to arrest. When all was said and done, Eppolito and Caracappa were charged with eight murders, two attempted murders and one murder conspiracy, along with money laundering, drug dealing and obstruction of justice. The two were convicted and sentenced to life in prison in 2006. New York City paid a total of $18.4 million to settle lawsuits with seven of the victims’ families." Rafael Ray Perez, was an L.A.P.D. officer who was a member of a gang unit called CRASH. Among many crimes committed by the unit. One of them was attempted murder. They shot an unarmed 19 year old gang member, they left him, assuming he was dead. He wasn't, but he was paralyzed from the waist down. A gun was planted at the scene, the officers testified that he attacked them. He spent close to 20 years in prison before one of the dirty cops who was being investigated, confessed. The corrupt cops cost the city $125 million dollars. According to one of the officers. After work, they'd meet at a bar, and celebrated the shootings, justified or not. Especially if they killed someone. Some were gang members, some were civilians. They regularly planted drugs and guns at crime scenes to cover their tracks. I could mention Baltimore's corruption, or Chicago, Florida, Texas, Phoenix, etc. If I had to list how many times a cop's recounting of a shooting was vastly different from the body cam, or other evidence, it would take me all night. The movie "Serpico" was based on true story of a New York cop in the late 60's early 70's who's nearly killed, because he threatened to expose widespread corruption. All info I provided can be sourced with a simple Google search. All you have to do is type in the names. Finally, a simple question regarding your standard, as far as truth versus falsehood is concerned. I'm quoting you, "I don't belive I've ever heard a story of a police sneaking up on somebody and killing them in cold blood" Simple question. How long have you been omniscient?
