When people overly simp for villains it makes me wonder, "do people forget these guys kill people, like unforgivingly." Like besides that for the most part, when heroes take down most villain they do it as quickly and effective as possible without beating them to a pulp, just restraining them, times like when Kirishima actually try to emphatize with a villain and have mercy with them, the guy immediately use that as a chance to take a drug and try to skrew a bunch of civilians and kill the hero to escape. These aren't J-walkers, they're people with powers that can be equal to guns threatening to hurt, extort, and possibly kill other innocent people. "That's Copaganda" - Ok, obviously you don't live in a high crime place like Chicago where like every other day there's new reports of a gang related shooting. Not every criminal is fuqing Aladdin. A lot are just opportunist, others are insane or uncaring. And I'm sorry if someone with the power to burn a person to a crispt in 10 second is holding my mom hostage or putting her in danger, bruh sorry but whatever happens to you ain't on me. Again, not saying beat down every villain on every minor crime and such. But like, I feel like people forget that some criminals are just bad or that past doesn't justify certain actions. Like of course the LoV will be labeled terrorist and people won't like them, they literally bulldoze a entire time then broke into a jail to release all the murderers and rapist onto the populace. Yeah right I'm about to give a shit that Dabi daddy was mean to him when my home was trampled, my brothers were flattened, and my cousins were captured and trafficed by the people Dabi unleased on the world.

That last part. I LIVE with that mindset. You can certaintly be sympathetic to a persons upbringing or life But that doesn't mean that they suddenlly get a "free to do whatever" pass for it. Killing innocent people will never be justified and it Immediatly looses any sympathy points that the character or person might try to use to justify their actions.

On the topic of cool female characters my favorite female character for a long time was Evangeline from Wakfu because she was the first female character I saw to be a badass but still care about girly things. Also think this is another reason why Orihime is so hated, because she doesn't fit into that badass woman archetype that people believe is the only way to wright a good female character.

I am currently rewatching Wakfu yeah Eva is really fun. Her saving Dally at the start of 2 season 2 is really good. If I had to make a minor critique I think her combat skills taking a hit so she gets more damsel for Dally to save moments in season 2 happens more than I’d like.

Yeah Orihime is a great character. Honestly the whole idea that the only way to write a good female character is to make them un-feminine badasses is just really boring (Which is partly why I don't really care for Nobara from JJK, because she feels like a "Woah, a female Shonen tritagonist that breaks the mould by not being sexy or girly!" type of character but without actually being interesting. And wouldn't you know, when JJK S1 came out, that's only praise she would get with the all the "She's Sakura, but good!" comments, even though there's hated characters like Noelle from Black Clover that I is a Shonen Tritagonist that actually gets good fights and developments. It also doesn't help that I just think Nobara's whole personality as the "I'm a small town girl that likes the city a heck of a lot more" type person is just that, while written accurately, is not a personality type I find appealing at all (Which I guess works with JJK's whole thing of unpleasant and negative emotions and all that)) But yeah, the whole idea of "Female characters can only be good if they ditch being girly" is just dumb.

TBF about the Old Gen being a stepping stone for the new. It makes sense that Shounen Fans believe that about Shounen, cause that's also what Shounen Manga constantly tell us about their characters. Whether it's Roshi about Goku or Aizawa about Class-1-A or Kakashi about Naruto or the Worst Gen towards Big Mom.

No bakugo wasn't saying oh he won't die because he dodges What Bakugo said in his fight deku is that he won't die if its not a direct hit basically he is not aiming completely directly at Midoriya to not kill him with the explosion. Still a crazy, because what if deku could move and gets hit directly due to it but its not the same as saying he will dodge so he will survive.. He won't die becuase he will dodge woudln't make mcuh sense because bakugo intention is to hit him of course if deku would dodge it there be no point in the attack he said he won't hit him directly enough to kill him.. If you look you can see that Deku stands still covering himself and bakugo kind of shoots the explosion not directly at him brushing him with the explosion. Thats what he meant because the issue with being like deku will dodge it is that he didn't dodge it he stood still but bakugo aimed it in a way that it didn't directly hit him you can kind of see it brush up against him rather than directly land on deku.

I never understood the Female Lead "curse" complaints that MHA and Shonen in general get. I just don't expect a series targeted towards young boys to always flesh out the women characters to the same degree they do the men. It's kinda like complaining how sidelined most parents are in shonen.
@trashiki
@trashiki Месяц назад
I don’t think that’s quite the same. Parents are absent because the order and responsibility they bring can stop certain stories from happening or making sense. Girls as a whole don’t have that problem,
@TheFIame
@TheFIame Месяц назад
@@trashiki True, I think even Oda has said something similar before lol. I guess my main point simply put would be that shonen are in general young male power fantasy stories. And this impacts how different types of characters are portrayed. So certain complaints like the absence of parents and how the women get less attention feels like people not understanding what this genres main goal is. Mirko is a queen BTW.

The demographic argument, is just a reskined version of "it's a show for kids, so that excuses bad writing". Female characters are still characters regardless of demographic, & should be written with SOME form of quality just like any other character. Avatar was a show primarily targeted at young men, but still had well written female characters.

This makes zero sense for MHA though, if you read the manga honestly. Because Ururakas part at the end overshadows most fights especially the Shoto fight and she is arguably left standing not only the strongest kid in 1A but also the most mature and independent hero at the end. And that was already foreshadowed three times, once by Deku learning her goals and understanding that she is extremely grounded, then during her battle with Bakugo (which is one of three times in the series he actually resorted to selfharm in order to win) and when Nezu talks about a hero arriving greater than Allmight during Ururakas speech, it cuts to her and not Deku AND it all makes sense within the story, I just don’t want to spoil everything that happens. It’s really awesome however, because no one had any expectations for the Ururaka fight as well. This development also is no surprise from Horikoshi, because he actually did female lead Shonen (crazy zoo) before. Shonen means „young boy“ however that doesn’t mean young boys cannot be attracted to a story or a franchise with a female protagonist or prominent female side characters and I think the Metroid, Alien and Terminator series are proof of that. Or Dr Slump if we are really talking Shonen. However thanks to the success of the follow up series of Dr. Slump, which is DB (and DBZ) a lot of Shonen has turned into something selling a macho-power-fantasy… not only to kids. Which at the end of the day, doesn’t have to be something negative either if kids can still separate fiction from real life. Anyways for MHA and it’s spinoff vigilantes this simple isn’t the case though cause the ladies do have their own arcs and epic fights and we will see another girl shine already next Saturday:).

@annaavertho4944 Месяц назад
Ehm…everyone who complains about the females in MHA has not read the Manga. Or any of Horis other stuff… Boy oh boy will people be surprised, next episode and by next season… Cause SPOILERS Ururakas quirk awakening is on a Shigaraki level and after the battle she is left standing the strongest hero in 1A, cause her one weakness gets radicalised (this was also foreshadowed in her fight vs Bakugou) But the direction her character goes is even more important, because she chooses to no be a star-hero and instead improve a very overlooked aspect of hero society and that becomes her life-work. Horis first Shonen series had a female protagonist and he usually gives every single character a moment to shine. That hasn’t changed for MHA as well. Also if people complain about the malegaze fan service stuff they also have to complain about the femalegaze moments in MHA (like Shoto conveniently burning his own shirt off in season two, the boys bath tap scene in season six, Dabi doing propaganda shirtless, shiggy in the tube and fighting Endevour shirtless Sephirot style etc). There is a reason MHA attracts both very horny male and female fans.

I think you did miss some of the good points of the copaganda video. Whilst i do agree that it never connects the american copaganda to Japan, it is undeniable that the aspects he points out are there. The heroes are effectively just super-powered cops and the series never really reflects on it. I'm not extremely familiar with Japan, but I do know that there were protests back in 2020 due to police brutality on a Turkish man who had not committed any illegal actions and regardless there can still be a lot to say about the cops that mha just doesn't and instead continues to present them in very much a black and white light. Certain additions such as heteromorph discrimination aren't really developed and like you said they never demonstrate any systemic change nor improvements for them and a lot of more knowledgable people than me have talked about how weird the treatment of that issue was. I think your fighting point is redundant. Fighting can still happen in an alternate version of the story where the heroes and society are more thoroughly critiqued. The rewrite point is also a little unnecessary. Rewrite just means to write something again with the goal of improving it. I can understand having issues with the rewrite itself but dismissing it on that criteria isn't really important.
@trashiki
@trashiki Месяц назад
How were those points missed when they were directly talked about? The fair and unfair ways to compare heroes to the police and how arcs tackling hero and government corruption would have been good are both talked about in that section.
@hypotrain
@hypotrain Месяц назад
horikoshi has no obligation to do police critique though. that's evidently completely beyond the scope of his writing abilities anyway, considering how he couldn't even flesh out the things he did decide to comment on. Once you start tackling a topic like that you immediately need to tackle 50 other adjacent topics too. heroes essentially being policemen was a decision made out of convenience, since it feels very intuitive to a japanese reader to root for them, considering the view of police in japan is still a lot more positive than the view on police in the west

I havent watched their video on AoT, so forgive me if I get anything wrong, but seriously? The very notion that Isayama is pro fascism seems insane to me and not something anyone in good faith would say about a person they barely know anything about. Do they have sources where someone who is 100% confirmed to be Isayama explicitly states his political opinions? Are they shure they arent just reading too deeply into the manga and trying to tie it to his personal politics? Do they even reference that AoT was heavily influenced by the visual novel Muv Luv Alternative and its not based on actual history? How much of this sentiment is felt from Japanese readers? If I was Isayama I would sue these people for slander for talking that way about me.

Hi! Here with a bad Bakugo take, apologies in advance for the bad english. Can i ask if any of you two has had any experience with heavy high school bullying? I apologise in advance if my question is too personal. From personal experience people that went through it (like myself) have a lot of problems with how the manga explored it. I felt that the physical and mental damage delt to Deku by Bakugo was rarely addressed. The apology from Bakugo was too little too late for my taste and it wasn't accompanied by a sustancial change in attitude from Bakugo's part. Also i don't really like his relationship with Kirishima, i feel he is his friend only because he can endure the physical abuse and violent personality of Bakugo. I think you kind of fail a little when you talk about Bakugo's actions. Yes, he was a 15 year old when he told Deku to kill himself but Deku was also 15 (+ low self-esteem and a bad self-image) and i think you minimize how that could affect him. I could be more ok with how the manga developed the subject if the possiblity of Deku cutting all contact with the person that tormented him was on the table but he decided to engage with him regardless. If this was something that was explored i didn't noticed it. Sorry for the long comment.
@trashiki
@trashiki Месяц назад
If you think the apology isn’t good enough that’s fair enough. I think it’s fine because even though Bakugo was bad Deku himself doesn’t view him as the core fault of his life not being great so the apology really wasn’t that important to him. What hit Deku harder was Bakugo saying he’d support him. I don’t really agree with that Kirishima take, it’s more slapstick than actual physical abuse. The they were 14 thing is mainly that being a dick as a 14 year old while bad isn’t something I really view as the crippling moral failing you must be redeemed from. He grew out of it, apologized, made friends, socialized in a more adult setting, and is now just a rude guy. I can see why you’d want a cut contact story but I don’t think I’d want that in this case. Bakugo’s presence and aggressive to friendly rivalry with Deku is one of the best parts of the story and I don’t want to lose that for the sake of making an arguably healthier bullying message. I would say I had experienced the average amount of bullying, nothing really as bad at Deku. But due to a lot of my post high school life experience I do think I’m pretty familiar with it and the problems. That’s why I don’t mind if you think the apology wasn’t good enough, that’s a perfectly valid feeling if you’re a lot closer to the problem personally. Had to edit because I forgot to respond to the life experience question.
@Birthday888
@Birthday888 Месяц назад
I mean, Deku can't cut all contact with Bakugo because they're literally in the same class. Also, no substantial attitude change? The Bakugo at the end of the series is the pretty much unrecognizeable from the one we got at the beginning. There are ways that they are still superficially similar (they are both still short-tempered and rude), but he's pretty much lost all the ego that drove him to be such an asshole by the beginning of the story. I feel like you are talking in hypotheticals here. Yes, Bakugo's actions could have severely affected Deku beyond what the manga shows us, but the fact is that they didn't. You can't criticize a story for not having something that you wanted to be in it, unless it's a major plothole or a plotline that just simply vanished partway through being explored.

Let’s not forget how disingenuous the apology is because the whole one for all thing shields Bakugo from actually having to admit to his specific crimes, which means he doesn’t lose any face for the discrimination and years of targeted harassment instead people just assume that they had a beef.

@@emeraldpichu1 -which means he doesn’t lose any face for the discrimination and years of targeted harassment- Discrimination doesn't make it genuine. IF endeavour a grown ass man can abuse his son and still have a relatively status free of harassement after his whole family got exposed for having issues bakugo who was a child bullying deku isn't gonna be harassed anyway. *Also bakugo apology is genuine you would have to ignore that bakugo got stabbed for deku before he even apologized. @emeraldpichu1
@emeraldpichu1 Месяц назад
@@DBZFANX1000 the difference here is endeavor was the number one hero and was number two for decades he had a lot more clout. If Bakugo confessed to his scumbag behavior and if the class and UA in general learned about his attitude about the discrimination He instigated and participated in and that his justification being he didn’t want to work on his personality so choose to to bully izuku since he was 4 (yes it was a decade because that was they age they got a quirk and started their ideology) then that would torpedo his career so it just gets brushed under the rug otherwise they would have to deal with Japanese style social politics and the author couldn’t justify him getting away with it. Unfortunately, it’s repercussions that makes Apologies feel genuine, which is why a lot of people don’t consider it a real apology because he may say he’s sorry, but there is nothing backing his words because every genuine repercussion has to be disappeared in order to keep the secret of one for all protecting Bakugo from suffering anything from his actions and that’s not OK for a lot of people if you’re willing to accept that that’s fine but other people have different standards.
