I'm sure it's the bad gas. I had a Camaro sit for less than a year and couldn't get it started until it had some fresh gas in it. If it's still a problem after you've tried everything... I had a constant miss on cyl. 1 only that 1 cyl. I could not figure out. Replaced the coil, wires, cap, rotor, everything, notorious distributor issue on the car but all of that was good. No power problems once the bad coil was replaced. Could not get the miss to go away adjusting timing idle, TPS, proper coolant level. The timing belt went, ( clearance motor no prob,) I get the car towed home and there it was, the crank pullley was loose side to side, it damaged the woodruff key, the pulley and even the forged crank was a little mashed. I hope that's not your issue, just something to check. I had another pulley right there, got a new woodruff key on ebay, the key fit snug in there so I filled the ding on the crank with a little JB Weld knowing that it really can't take the heat but it worked. No issues since the patch and it's seen many 7k rpm shifts, one after another.

Try a pressure washer to peel that paint off but be prepared for a surprise underneath. On the misfire. It has to be a mechanical problem. Your diagnostic tool telling you that the signal is being sent, it also shows that the spark is ok. So my guess would be a bad injector

I'm pretty sure the volvo just has a really crappy plastidip job and DipYourCar.com sells a cheap product that you can use to help peel off all of that plastidip relatively easy to bring it back to silver, and then once the car is back to silver it'll sell pretty easily

The B5244T3 is a 2.4 L (2,435 cc) straight-five. Bore is 83 mm (3.3 in) and stroke is 90 mm (3.5 in) with a compression ratio of 9:1. It is turbocharged and intercooled with a power output of 200 PS (147 kW; 197 hp) at 6000 rpm with 285 N⋅m (210 lb⋅ft) of torque at 1800-5000 rpm.[113] It features exhaust cam VVT.

That Volvo clearly has a misfire.. one of ignition coil pack is arcing. With the engine off.. Remove them one at a time and check for burn marks along the tube or run the car in the dark, and peek under the hood of the car to check for sparks/arcing. A temporarily fix for a bad coil is using black electric tape..

Great tools. I want to warn you about putting the metering rods back together. Make sure they are NOT in the top of the carburetor when replacing the top. Put the top back on with out the metering rods in place. After you get the top screwed back on then put the metering rods in. You can bounce it with your finger a few times until it goes into the hole they are on top of little springs so they are springy. Do this easy by gently popping it up and down until it goes into the jet using your index finger. Then put the small dime sized cover back on it and the tiny screw back in place. Some people dont know and put the metering rods in the top and try to mash them into the jets and screw the top on while destroying the metering rods bending them and disfigure them all to hell. I use to know a guy in Wichita whom dad was a corvette fuel injection expert and basic hot rodder that built his own t bucket and worked vintage corvettes back in the seventies. He showed his son and I how to rebuild those Carter AFB carbs (now bought by Edelbroc)and how not to smash the metering rods. And also how to tune the idle lean screws. Changing out the jets is something I never needed to do. Maybe my 67 mustang would been able to run a little better with a slightly bigger jet? I doubt it though it was only a 302 and the carter carb I got off a big old 60s model Pontiac or Oldsmobile that had a bigger engine. We use to go to an old old salvage waay far from Wichita that still had vintage GM cars from the sixties.

The fuel rail should have a bleeder valve near the injector rail. If you take out the valve ( it looks like a needle valve in a valve stem) and crank the car over it should push all the gas out of the valve. Use a long piece of rubber fuel line with a clamp hooked up to that valve and run the rubber hose into a large gas can or 5 gallon bucket.

@GibsonGarage

The misfire could be that cylinder one is farthest away from the throttle body mix that with bad gas and the cold weather it just has the hardest time firing and as a result that spark plug maybe in a little worse shape than the rest contributing even more. If you had bought this in the summer you may not have even noticed it. But I think you picked the right one this should be a good flip

I think you need a coil for that number one cylinder. Watch the spark in the video again. On another note, the chevy orange you are seeing in places on the corvette was put there by the factory. It was a thing they did on the older ones. you should be able to find it on the front spindles also. So the orange valve covers are a good fit for the spirit of an older corvette!

Volvo seems pretty good. Might want to try cleaning with the Seafoam or whatever that you spray into the intake as well as putting some in oil and gas to clean the injectors and such. Just have to be prepared for some rough running and smoking after Seafoam. My '07 Mitsubishi Galant, with a 100,000 miles actually threw misfire code, but I just cleared it and it has run fine since. The oil was really black after changing also. Thanks for sharing. As far as the wrap or whatever on the outside, might want to leave it. I was thinking if you pressure washed it, might be more splotchy.

All you need is a pressure washer and fifteen minutes to peel that Smurf. Just get under an edge and blast away. The miss is obviously a dirty nozzle. Dirty nozzles cause a drip at idle. When the pressure goes up they still spray enough fuel to smooth out. Nice pull on the Volvo though.

@gosportjamie
@gosportjamie 5 лет назад
I think the problem with indicator stalk switching the high beams on when you don't want them is pretty common on those, and pretty much every Volvo of that era. They just weren't as strong as the rest of the car. It's a dead easy fix though, if you get a hair bauble on an elasticated ring, or maybe a small scrunchy, you can just slip it over the stalk and attach it somewhere on the dashboard or steering column cowling so that the elastic is quite tight and it'll hold the switch in the normal, dip beam position and still allow you to operate the high/main beams when you need them. There are plenty of these running around in the UK with this "mod" and it works fine, even for the annual MoT test...

I like the Launch scan tool, somethings I've noticed on mine ( which is different from yours ) is that mine can print wirelessly - sort of. You can print health reports and the such, but on mine I cannot print directly to the printer. Instead I print, but instead of sending it to the printer I use the print fuction to save as a PDF file, then I open the PDF and print using Adobe, that works for me. Also, on mine, I cannot program a key to a vehicle if all keys are lost. I have to have at least one working key ( on some vehicles I need 2 working keys ). I found that out the hard way when I bought a Charger with no working keys, dealer charged me $397 for a new key. Also, at the main menu, you can hit the "Software Update" button and it can update all the software modules at once so you don't have to update each time you plug into a new vehicle make.

BIG thumbs up from Denmark, and thanks for your allways super good videoes. I have my own car dealer/repair shop and has worked a lot with Volvo, and they are GREAT and SOLID cars that is build to be used, and the cars are normaly easy to repair because Volvo know that nothing lasts forever, and therefor has to be taken apart some day. I realy think that you got the right car, and for a nice price. But PLEEEAAASE remowe that blue plasti dip. It is ugly in that colour, but is a very nice looking car in silver. Here in Denmark the V70 is a very popular car, and is very easy to sell and a car like yours could be sold for around 6.000 dollars if it is in okay condition. My advise to you is to change the spark plugs. Volvo cars can often make start to get misfire if you dont use the correct spark plugs as Volvo recommend. Keep up the GOOD work and maybe someday help me find a car to be shipped to Denmark :-)

Could be the coil is weak and still sparking but not a full strength spark. Try swapping it with a different coil and see if the misfire moves to that cylinder

Swap the coil to another cylinder to see if the coil is starting to take a crap if the misfire moves to other cylinder you need a coil

Vs burning the bad gas out of the car. Just get a small hand pump or a small electric pump And pump out like a 1/4 to 1/2 of the tank vs running the car all day.
