Don't do it! Just don't do it! Unless you tow everyday above 10k lbs. Stick with a gasser. More fuel, yes. But much more affordable in the long run. Change the fuel filter to a twin filter setup. Use 3-5 micron filters or less. I have a 2004.5 Ram 3500 with the HO 5.9 Cummins. Been rebuilt twice. Everyone told me they are great. The Cummins engine is meh at best. What good is a Cummins if the rest of the vessel around it breaks or needs replacement. I have literally replaced everything, 48re trans, entire front end, tires, suspension, power steering gear, fan clutch twice, brakes, serpentine assembly (3 times),AC compressor, alternator, injectors, turbo, u-joints, headlights, fog lights, and then some. All repairs and replacements done within a 2 year period. It's just a poorly designed truck, with a poorly designed fuel system. You will get PTSD when it's running, always wondering, "What was that noise, did something break again? What's that smell, something is burning? " Get a 2007-08 with the 6.7 and all the bugs got worked out. Avoid that year like the plague. It will run good for only a little bit.

I currently own an of ram 2500 Cummins that truck is showing signs of a bad injector, but it’s not the kind that will cause the catastrophic failure it’s stuck closed. I was able to run mine perfectly fine on five failing injectors and one bad one and I did it for 25,000 miles just run a few quarts of a few gallons at meaning of hotshot secret through it. If you don’t want to pay two grand for a set of six injectors.

I have a 2003 DODGE Cummins 3500, 2003-2004.5 on the 3/4 and one-tons had no emissions, not even a CAT, I believe the 2005 was SUPPOSED to have a CAT, but most people remove them - illegally I night add! Also, listening for one minute into this video, you sound so much like a checkbook truck owner, running around like the sky if falling all the time. NEWS FLASH: Buying tires is an investment in future miles - the cost per mile IS THE SAME FOR ALL TRUCKS (a bit more maybe for the duallys, although that is debatable because the extra rubber makes the tires last longer - but I digress). And anyone worried about the warranty ending, and making decisions based on that, is silly. Buy a good truck, use it for it's purpose, and MAINTAIN it. It will last HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MILES, and having to replace parts is just the cost of doing business. AND STOP GETTING LOANS for these things! Buy what you can afford in the beginning FOR CASH, make it last, then upgrade when you can afford to buy another truck FOR CASH again. I'm almost 60 and have never had a car/truck loan. If you decide to get out of this ridiculous loan cycle, you'll be able to make decisions based on VALUE, not fear, and silly monthly payments. It's time to grow up.

I have an early 2007 Dodge Ram Mega Cab 2500 . In the first half of 2007 the Dodge Ram 2500 & 3500 came with the 5.9 Cummins Diesel Engine and the second half of 2007 , those truck's came with the 6.7 Cummins Diesel Engine and has all the extra crap on it . Also the early 6.7 Cummins Diesel's Do have problems !!! I have the 5.9 Cummins Diesel Engine without all the crap which is how it comes stock . I've got 250,000 miles on my truck but my truck has been very well maintained and taken care of as I also do !! If they have been very well taken care of they should go one million miles before you automatically rebuild the diesel engine . My truck is spotless and looks like new in 2007 . The only one thing I wish is being as long as it is , it requires a bit more room for the turning radius . Other than that , it will be the last truck I buy !!! But I am a maintenance freak for any of my vehicle's and don't cheap out on stuff for my vehicle's . The big advantage is the extra room in the back seat area with even more space behind the back seat . That's where I put my 4" mattress to sleep on if I fold the back seat down if I need to rest . But it's a great truck as I hunted along time to find such a clean and very well maintained truck , which I will not part with !! When I bought it used it had extra stuff on it such as a fifth wheel and extra rear air bags to handle even more weight . I'm the 3rd owner of my 2007 Dodge Ram Mega Cab 2500 Diesel Truck . I did as I always do a complete bumper to bumper maintenance and inspection . So I don't have anything to worry about no matter where I drive . You just can't beat having a Dodge Ram truck with the 5.9 diesel engine !!! The two previous owners used the truck to pull their 32' & 35' fifth wheel campers with . And now it pulls anything I care to pull and haul . I think I really got lucky with my truck and have had it for a few years already . Several times I've been offered allot more than I paid and put into my truck as I did put new tires on it . Plus the last of the 5.9 Cummins Diesel Engine's don't have all that extra crap on the truck and doesn't require any DEF fluid as later models do .

I'm not a Dodge or Ram "fan" by any means but I grew up with a 76 - 200 with a 400 and 4 speed manual full time 4-wheel drive (single cab long bed) and 77 - 200 with a 440 with a 4 -barrel and automatic also with full time 4-wheel drive (extended cab long bed). I liked those older pickups. I'm a Ford fan and have owned quite a few over the years and currently own about 4 Ford pickups. Anyway, I can spot a deal when I see one. You would be stupid to not try and get that 2005 Dodge with the 6-speed manual. Even if it had to go up to $5k or maybe even $6k or $7k, it would likely still be worth it. As for the engine potentially running a little rough, I don't know enough about how the Cummins engines are supposed to sound to know for sure but basing my opinions on experience with other cars or diesel pickups, it "appears" to be running decent. Maybe not perfect but perhaps it's something that can be fixed by adjusting the injection timing at the pump. I believe the Cummins engines have the ability to adjust the fuel injection timing at their pumps. I'm not sure though. Maybe there is something else that is causing the little flutter but really, I don't see it as that bad in the video. Also, I don't know if you noticed what appeared to be a crankcase vent tube beside the brake master cylinder but it wasn't hooked to anything either. I'm not sure if that would matter or not and likely it doesn't but just something to note as you're looking at it.

buy the ram 6 speed.. if you need a 4x4 get a chevy with a 6.0 gas, there much lighter, a diesel 4x4 is just to heavy to be taking off road.. some will disagree.. but there is a reason no one uses those engines in off road toys.. super heavy. it does seem to shake a little, could be a old fuel or dirty fuel filter, bad injector, or worm out motor mounts.. all that stuff is pretty cheap and relatively easy to fix.. if your going to have one, you should know how to swap a injector and dig into it a bit

I do not know how much you make, and I do not know how much you owe, but with the economy the way it is and all the unknowns in the car business and the interest rate exploding, you are on mount Everest with banana peel shoe soles. Your debt is going to explode and you could loose everything you own . I went through 12 percent interest on borrowed money to operate on in the 80s and could have been bankrupt easily. I will warn you one more time you might be making lots of money and owe lots of money, just like many of my friends , get rid of things that are costing big payments with sky rocketing interest now, and wait a few months till things get better. You can always buy homes and toys back sometimes much cheaper.

As much as you drive, I wouldn't trust an old truck. Just shop around for a truck that you could afford with no problem.$1100 a month for a truck that's used with that many miles on it. I try to get out of it too.

You get what you pay for. Duramax for the win. No insane maintenance like the Cummins. No need to remove the cab like a Ford.

If you have owned the truck from new. You can keep the maintenance costs under control. I have found that buying a used dually always nickels and dimes me to death. Cheers
