I'm a dual citizen and have lived in Denmark for the past 3 years but on the Jutland peninsula, starting next semester I'll be studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and it's just hitting me now "omg I'm gonna be living somewhere that was on a Rick Steves episode"

Nederlands and Danmark must be two of the most similar countries on earth, not just on the literal level (north-germanic language, low-lying, trade history) but also on more poetic ones (like how people cling to their bicycles).

Yes of course I've been there, I live in Norway... Theres some very nice forests but nothing iconic or specifically unique OTHER then the urban sprawls and islands.

My grandpa’s parents lived outside of Copenhagen on the island of Zealand but moved to Copenhagen in 1890 for better work opportunities before finally leaving for America. Grandpa returned and lived there for three years. He missed it so much. After watching this program and the one about the rest of Denmark I can understand why he did and why it was important for him to instill in us his family a love for Denmark and all things Danish. Thank you for these wonderful shows.🙏🇩🇰

It's interesting to see Rick's travelogues. He lives in the places he visits. He absorbs the city, meets local guides, and studies the place until he's really a part of it, not just someone detached. It's a great way to travel. It's for the experience, not just a tick on a bucket list.

people do make money being on tv and from selling their writings or if the writing is for a magazine or newspaper. But in the beginning its more expensive, after that if your making money for said job than its a bit cheaper.

Copenhagen was our last destination after 2 months travelling around Europe from March to June 2017. Its really nice to see this video now and find out that we actually did well and we have visited almost all touristic points you have mentioned and discovery a little more about the history of this friendly city. I can assure you it is. Nice and safe. My teenage daughter occasionally takes a late night stroll when she needs some fresh air alone. She will often go to the pars near the "Strøget" the pedestrian street. It's perfectly safe at any time.

Cars speeding to make it seem like they're gonna run you over, bicyclist running red lights in the opposite direction, people spitting and throwing garbage everywhere. I know some Danes would like to blame all this on immigration or young people, but it has always been like this. The only difference might be that cleaning trucks wash the streets every morning.

what made me interested about Denmark and the Danes was when I met teachers who were Danish and they were all so nice. after a year or two I met another Danish teacher and he was just as nice and happy too. actually being in Copenhagen is a dream for me

One point Steve's failed to mention is that Denmark, and Copenhagen in particular, is an extremely expensive place to visit. I love it here, I wouldn't live anywhere else, but, my god, this place is pricey.

+Carlos Saraiva Norway's economy has slid a bit, so based on dollars, this is the time to go there, if you were planning on going. I was there 3 years ago and it killed me! $16 for the cheapest burger at a college burger stand. Good quality meat, but it was tiny! .Cheap beer, $16-$18. Nice, inexpensive restaurant, prices started at $24. I think I was told it's more like Denmark for the dollar, now. I'm sure they're keeping alcohol expensive.

+Carlos Saraiva for me, the public transport there is more expensive. In Copenhagen, it was affordable to choose Uber over the bus when there were several together.

Carlos Saraiva I don't know about Sweden or Norway, but public transport in Denmark, while pretty effective, is rather expensive. I visited Portugal a few years ago, and as far as I remember, Portugal is quite a bit cheaper. But if you visit Copenhagen, and you don't mind walking/cycling, you won't have to rely on public transport to get where you want, it's not a big city. Let me translate a few different journeys with public transport for you: From the airport to the center of copenhagen you will pay about 5€ to use our subway. This ticket will last for an hour before you have to buy another one, but it will let you go pretty much anywhere in Copenhagen and it lets you use both the busses, the subway, and local trains. From Copenhagen to Aarhus (second largest city, 5 hours by train) the price is 52€!? From Copenhagen to Odense (third largest city, 1:45 hour by train) the price is 37€ I think there are some period cards or something like it, that you can buy to make public transport a tiny bit cheaper, but for general use, if you just want to buy a ticket to see this or that one place, these are the prices. Alcohol, on the other hand, is about as cheap as it is in the US, if not a bit cheaper, AND then the quality is quite a bit higher, if you ask me, with regards to beer at least. Scandinavians go to Denmark to drink/buy alcohol, while danes go to Germany.

Beautiful, beautiful Copenhagen.!!!!. I had the good luck to be a visitor to Copenhagen. I loved it. Wish I could go back. But that's not going to happen... Sadly. I wish , you'd show the Marble church, . Kronborg castle. Tivoli Gardens. Its like being in paradise. My most cherished and loved holiday ever. Also the other castles... Just a beautiful world. Love it, love it love it. God bless Copenhagen.... I would definitely recommend this is a place to visit....

I wish that when you mentioned the big music festival in Roskilde, that you had said it is non profit and is run by volunteers. The festival gives away millions of DKK to charity every year

Just to correct a little thing - the first pedestrian thing was made in Randers, they made some streets and places only for pedestrians and its called Erik menveds plads, because strøget was only on trial, but Randers took the full step without hesitating ;-)
