I’m 65 and if there is one thing I’ve learned is that this life is full of loss. We lose our youth, parents, health, friends and family, and places that are or were part of our history that no longer exist. Acceptance and Relinquish is just about the only thing we can do. The pain always occupies a place in our heart, but what else can we do. We pray and ask for God’s strength to accept his will.

Agree, so true.. I am just my 50's and starting to feel this too. It feels like everyone one of us has a kind of Job story..Thank God for our faith.. I don't know how people can pass thru this without it...

Fr Mike, your words ring so true for me. I lost my wonderful husband almost 2 years ago after 33 years of marriage. At first I prayed that God would take me in my sleep so I could be with him. But He had other plans for me and thanks to love and prayers of family and friends, I slowly began to heal. Since then He has showered me with many blessings. I still miss my husband, of course, but I have been able, with His help, to “redesign” my life on my own. I know that love does not die and I feel that love everyday. Most of all, I know that Jesus will never leave me. Thank you for your words of wisdom. 🙏✝️🙏

My Mom passed away exactly 6 months ago today, after a short illness. God blesse me with her for 72 years. Her mind was good to the end. I still miss her. RIP

Father Mike you have no idea how much this video came to me in the the right time of my life I’m crying right now watching this! I am currently trying to restore myself and rebuild my life I was born and raised Catholic but I went against the church’s will and decided to follow the rhythm of the world destroying my relationship with my family and God please pray for me to return to my family I just want to be with my elderly father before he passes away 😢

My mom passed away just Aug. 19. Yes! I'm 57 but it still hurts because she died in México and couldn't go to her burial. Pray for her soul and our acceptance of her departure. My Mom name is: Josefina Aréchiga Adame RIP😢

It has been a constant prayer I asked of our Lord to speak to me, especially in these moments of adversity, and I would like to believe that God is speaking to me through you and your words Father Mike. With the loss I have encountered, I have found many graces. As of right now, while I am on regency (seminary break), I continue to discern for priesthood and each day I grow so much zeal and eager to go back to formation. But I lift everything to the Lord, when everything is grace. Let's pray for each other. 🙏

Dearest Father Mike, this video truly hit home with me. I filed for divorce at the urging of my parish priest 13 years ago. My mind said yes, but my heart said no. I believed she could change. That belief was shattered when her behaviors of almost 28 years escalated. I attempted all the stages after moving over 300 miles away. With the support of new parish priests, deacons, and other men, I settled on number 4. That was the best move I have ever made with respect to relationships. Heavenly Father, I pray for all watching, in grief from loss, to be led by God into the arms of our Blessed Mother, to be held close to her motherly heart, in her warm loving embrace. Our Mother's embrace is Christ's embrace. Great loss, even after eventual surrender, can stay as deep wound for many years. St Joseph, pray for us.

My second love, worked out the same way the first one did I lost them both. The first time I was 17 and the last time I was 57.. at that point I said no more. I don’t want to look for anyone else. I’m not interested in anyone else and I’m not interested in putting myself through that again. Decided to spend the rest of my lifechaste and devoted to the Lord. There are some days that are harder than others. I am currently going through cancer, which I know I told you about 67. I’m putting my life in order it’s hard, but it needs to be done. Thank you for all of your wise and kind words. There are days when you make the decisions I need to make easier and I appreciate that God bless you and keep you.🙏🙏🙏

I lost my husband 6 years ago and sometimes it still hurts. A friend gave me one of the best lines when he said, "I can't imagine what you went through." Another older friend said if she remarried after her husband died, she would feel like she was cheating on him. Also, I am an only child, so I was raised alone and was taught to be alone. But, when you go to sleep at night out of sheer exhaustion, you wake up the middle of the night thinking about that person you lost. As for losing a child, I don't know what that is like. I can only guess that it's like when The Good Shepherd is looking for the one lamb who is lost. To console someone, I found a hug really works and one size fits all.

Thank you. When I lost my son he had been in my life for 39 years. I realized I am restoring my life with him by just keeping life's rhythm the same. His things, listening to his voice mail every night. It comforted me. I wanted to live a life, but didn't know life without him. So now I think I can try relinquishing a part of "us" to God. And it will be slowly but giving it to God is the safest place to entrust my beloved son.

The next step is to create a life that isn't based on grief and loss. Not that you try to pretend that you don't feel those things but they are no longer the all consuming center of your life. This new phase of life honors the memory of the good things in the past while giving yourself permission to create new good things without the missing person.
